Would you let one reprobate disrupt the wedding or funeral or a loved one on the grounds of "free speech"? Or would you bundle them out so they didn't upset anyone?
Same goes for disruptive protestors at the Coronation.

It's not a wedding or a funeral, it's the equivalent of a presidential inauguration without the need for a election first. If it's not acceptable to protest today when is it acceptable to protest the imposition of a Head of State without popular approval?
It’s interesting to note the disparity in reactions towards NickP and SeanT when both admitted paying whores for sex
Escorts, please.
Had my first escort in 1980.
She was blue and a real goer
Got rusty when wet
I thought they rusted when kept in clean, dry nitrogen, wrapped in plastic in the Mojave desert?
Ours certainly did. Bought a new Escort in 1984-ish, battery pan rusted inside a year, garage repainted it, rusted again 9 months later - out of warranty. Last Ford I ever bought.
Just about everything rusted in the 80s. I had a summer/weekend job in a workshop that prepped rally cars so I stitch welded and did cage fab on loads of brand new cars. I saw Astras and Escorts that came from the factory with rust. The VWs were a bit better and the Toyotas/Nissans were the best of all.

There is absolutely nothing stopping a political party from campaigning to abolish the monarchy, winning an election, and then carrying through with that policy.
Sadly for the protestors, constitutional reform doesn't seem high on the agenda of any political party.
In December 2022, Reform UK proudly announced that Richard Langridge, who they claimed had been a a Tory on West Oxfordshire District Council, had jumped ship and would henceforth be standing for Reform. Langridge had had a 21% lead over his Labour rival in 2015, but had actually resigned in mid-term over a squabble about Local Plans and had stood in 2019 as an Independent - narrowly beating his Tory rival by 5% of the 2019 poll.
Langridge, in spite of Reform's press release, the stood in May 2023 as an Independent. And in a seat that had always returned a Tory or Langridge till this week, lost to the Greens by 11% of votes cast.
How many other deranged announcements from Farage's alcoholic cronies are just as based on completely vacuous substance?

How about Charles putting HIMSELF up for election?
If he wins fair and square, I would have no problem with that at all.

Last time I looked the ‘Coronation’ was being staged in the public realm.
I hope all our monarchist friends enjoy the pageantry and ceremony and all the nauseatingly obsequious, oleaginous bollocks the day will bring. I love my country very much but the monarchy, as an institution and as individuals, just boils my piss. But hey, we’re all different so if all this floats your boat then you crack on and enjoy it all.
To avoid all the kerfuffle I’m firing up the Brompton and taking myself off on a nice long ride to explore various tracks, bridleways and paths in the environs that I’ve never explored before. We don’t have rain forecast until this evening so it should be a nice dry and steady trundle. Might even stop off for a cheeky pint.

It's amazing how they can keep the Kings Highway clear for the Coronation but all the rest of the plebs have to put up with nearly daily disruption...
Like Blair and Prescoot using the bus lane on the m4 to get to the airport....

When they were teenagers, my brother bought my sister an MG Midget. It had a little rust in the footwell, so he cut it out. Then he discovered more rust, and cut that out. By the time he had finished, he had removed almost all the underside To his credit, he bent all the metal and welded it all in - and I think she's still got it.
When he got his MG B, he just saved himself the work and bought a new bodyshell.
The UK Independence Party (Ukip) has been wiped out at England’s local elections, losing all six seats it was defending.
The pro-Brexit party lost two councillors in Folkestone & Hythe, one in South Staffordshire, one in Tamworth, one in Tendring and one in Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole.
Different Keirs, different times. Diseased Organism did a great Peel session in '81.
David Lammy was being sychophantic about the Monarch on the BBC earlier. All the Republicans within the Labour Party have probably been chained up by Sir Keir in an oubliette somewhere.

If the central part of the ceremony is the anointing, is the central part of a Glaswegian Coronation the a-nutting?
"And here we come to the central part of the ceremony, where the King takes exception to the Bishop looking at his bird, and proceeds to headbutt him. This is followed by the ritual kicking in the ribs, and then the millennium-old being dragged out by his friends."
They should have had the coronation (and bank holiday) yesterday. Weather would have been much better, 3 day week, and we wouldn’t have this strange unnecessary bank holiday next Monday.

Not unnecessary. It allows me to recover from Newcastle away.

If Labour start saying things like that Keir Hardie quote now we’ll be lumbered with another decade of Tory misrule. I know that would suit the SNP and Corbynistas but it wouldn’t help the rest of the country.

I'm 100% in favour of having the bank holiday on a Monday. Monday's are horrid, whereas I only work half-a-day on a Friday. Thanks Charlie!

Could be worse, we have to endure another bank holiday on Tuesday for Liberation day. Too many bank holidays in such a short period.
Occurs to me that Aleister Crowley would be revelling in the coronation. He knew the overwhelming psychic importance of apparently pointless ritual. The older the better
It is ritual magic. It is athames and sacred orbs and incomprehensible unguents from Jerusalem
Much of this stretches back to the Anglo-Saxon Kings in the 8th Century. Some of it even has its roots in the Old Testament.
It is truly humbling.
Today is going to be a show the likes of which we've never seen in our lifetimes. Almost every country in the world has sent either their Head of State or a very senior representative. Billions will tune in.
Those who miss it will later regret it.
Yes, you must have ZERO interest in history, religion, politics, music, architecture, pageantry to be determined to miss this. Even if you utterly loathe the monarchy it’s simply fascinating
Sounds like an absolute yawnfest. And the coverage is guaranteed be unwatchably obsequious to anyone with any sense of decency.
Even Der Spiegel has a live stream of the coronation.

For the second time in my lifetime I awake on coronation day and while being ambivalent to the monarchy there are many millions for whom today is historic and very special and I hope they have a wonderful day
Turning to politics the conservatives had a terrible day and it should not have surprised anyone after the debacle of the Johnson/ Truss time, and they need to unite behind Sunak and not listen to the siren voices bemoaning the eviction from office of Johnson
As for labour a good result but seemingly confirmation that Starmer has not yet sealed the deal with
It would be churlish not to recognise the spectacular success of the lib dems and greens which should provide red flag warnings for both the conservatives and labour
I am content with yesterday's result and would suggest that next year's GE , now almost certainly in October, could spin out any result but I would predict a labour government in coalition with the lib dems as a very real possibility and perfectly acceptable to me
I would just like to send my sincere congratulations to @NickPalmer on winning yesterday, and while we are not on the same page politically, he is a credit to politics, is a really nice person, and made a hilarious admission on here some weeks ago that has gone down in PB history
“… most commentators suggesting he may well become PM leading a minority government…”
Can you point me to a few? I think I’ve found one so far.
It was the impression I had after catching up on the news after being involved all day with my son in law in a DIY project
Certainly I did not hear or read an endorsement that Starmer will win a majority
That’s not what you said. You said most commentators are suggesting Sunak could well become PM leading a minority government. Can you point me to a few?
He said 'most commentators are suggesting Starmer could well become PM leading a minority government', not Sunak.

At least we know they are hypocrites now.
I don’t even agree with what the protestors are protesting about - but it is essential they be allowed to do so.
- May striking
- Cherie Blair's dress nice but not suitable for a woman with her size bottom
- Sarah Brown's shoes do not suit her legs
- Samantha Cameron pretty
- Liz Truss hideous. Also wearing THAT necklace.
- Madame Macron and Jill Biden both elegant

I am a great believer in "bella figura". If you are in public you should try not to look like a fright. Mirrors don't cost much.

Insane levels of pageantry and religion. They should set off a ceremonial nuclear bomb over Wick at the end, blessed by the bishop of Lichfield
