    7 has to be the maximum for the LDs now. Psychologically single figures feels more significant, even though it's barely worse than getting to 10.

    Yep, congratulations to the Tories on winning Rochester. I'm a natural Tory voter but felt that Ukip was the only party that represented my views. So be nasty about Reckless all you like, but just remember one day you might actually need the votes of people like me.

    Politics isn't about winning and losing, it's about making a difference for the people who vote for them. Some Tories on here seem to forget that.

    My thoughts exactly. I have crossed the rubicon from Conservative to Ukip during the course of the last parliament and, although I prefer a Conservative government to a Labour one, I can't see myself ever voting for the Tories again.

    Well that's no good, I'm off to work in an hour. I am actually really disappointed for the LDs (who I ended up voting for), even though I wanted Cameron to remain as PM (though not dependent on his own Right, which he now may be), and Balls losing would be an unqualified positive. Really don't like that man.

    There was a vast amount of nonsense about marginal polls - a large number of people need to re-think their 'analytical skills' over the next few weeks. Not least some of those on my side whose comments with every poor poll were cringeworthy to say the least.

    Eastbourne TO was well up
    More than 78,000 people cast their vote in the Eastbourne Parliamentary election yesterday (Thursday, May 7).

    The official figure - 78,262 - represents 67.94 per cent of the town’s electorate.

    The number is up on the previous election, in 2010, when 60.07 per cent of Eastbourne’s electorate turned out to vote.

    No one is saying that they do. But Mark Reckless and a few million voters (albeit maybe not that many from the Tories) decided that Ukip represent them best. That's their decision and it should be respected.
