Thank goodness, at last. I think its too late for anyone but Harris. It would have been different if he had stood down last year but right now the Democrats need to get behind a single candidate really fast and it has to be someone who has to be already known. Too late for the governors or even Buttigieg although I would want him on the ticket. He is just too good to waste.0
-
Clearly Joe Biden is NOT receiving spiritual-psephological guidance from The Vicar.
Key to this decision was NOT likes of Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi or etc. etc. etc.
Instead, Jill Biden.2 -
Biden does the right thing and bows out with still a lot of love and respect from Dems .

I believe Newsom has many many skeletons which will be dragged out by Trump and co and negate a lot of attacks on Trump. Whitmer would be sensible option but Harris has as close to incumbency as possible so she will be favourite.MikeL said:Harris 1.41

Reasonable timing I think. If the Dems get this right they could be entering election time with a bit of a new leader honeymoon. But then again they may crash further.
Come on Democrats. We need the next few months to be the American “deuxième tour”. Choose someone half decent. Choose Mayor Pete.0 -

I understand Newsom has had a lively past which I personally wouldn’t care about but it’s something that could be weaponised against him if he is attacking Trump for being less than pure. The dems need competence mixed with being clean.SeaShantyIrish2 said:

Game, set and match Trump if the Democrats endorse Harris after Biden's withdrawal and follow his mistaken recommendation.
Harris would lose all the rustbelt swing states Biden won in 2020 and probably lead the Democrats to their worst defeat in the Electoral College since Dukakis as well as losing the popular vote.
Newsom would be just as bad, Democrats only hope now a rustbelt governor like Shapiro or Buttigieg2 -
