    Lack of a confidence vote makes me (beting wise) a very happy bunny.

    Hat tip to whoever (Stocky?) pointed out the rules would make that hard to organise within the first year.

    Shame for me that Truss didn't hang on until next year, but I'm still up overall.

    This aged well (from all of two days ago).

    I've actually just laid Truss 2022 exit (well, backed the other options as odds were more favourable). I don't see the Cons pulling themselves together and organising a coup, they can't go to the members and they won't manage to orangise a coronation without some loons putting forward another candidate. Hunt as CoE has/will stabilise things a bit and the urgency will go (polls remain terrible, but they will hope something turns up before the GE/a unity candidate will emerge).

    Still, I wasn't betting on last night's fracking disaster.

    Popcorn on hand for the next few days...

    A snap general election.

    Failing that, a Hunt / Mordaunt / Sunak top team (PM / Chancellor / HS). Don't particularly care who is in which role, but I think those three are the only ones at the top of the party who can settle the ship in these times.

    Part of me would quite like May back; she was not as bad as many say (especially if they view events through Brexit! glasses), and it would be worth it to hear Boris's screams. ;)

    They would be absolutely crazy to go for Mordaunt. Far too much of a gamble - even more so than Truss. Could backfire spectacularly.

    It's a testament to the resilience of our institutions that it's possible within the space of three months to have two monarchs, three PMs and four chancellors without turning a hair. Any other country would be a laughing stock.

    The best option is Mordaunt as PM and Sunak back as Chancellor, but I don't think he'd be interested in anything other than the top job. So it's either PM4PM or get Ready for Rishi, and I think either of them keeps Hunt as Chancellor (sadly).

    Its Goderich's ghost that is most grateful as Canning died in office. Goderichs 143 days is the shortest 'failed' premiership. Intersstingly he apparantly cried when in with HMK but within days was eminently relieved

    Tory MPs should think about who gives them the best chance of keeping their seats. They are going to lose the general election come what may. I think Mordaunt is more likely to than Sunak.

    Yeah, his caretaker stint - about three weeks, whilst Peel returned from Italy. Peel himself only lasted a few months (but got elected again for a full term)

    Really what the Tories need is a Rishi coronation with decent jobs for Mourdant and Badenoch. Braverman can be ignored after the email idiocy. Keep boring hunt at chancellor. They then have a chance of pulling together if Rishi can do something to placate the spartans
