The passing of the Covid passports are deeply regrettable. They are a tool of surveillance and have no meaningful utility or function in dealing with Covid, particularly as a) the vaccines do not prevent transmission of the virus and b) you can easily fake an LFT result. They are meaningless, but establish a framework for eventually introducing ID cards. The tory MPs were right to rebel against it.
The rebellion means that Johnsons position in his party is ruined. Why did he get himself in this position, for something that won't make any difference? It seems like he has lost his political judgement completely. It is not like he was relying on the opposition votes to do something really difficult and important. Maybe he can bury it and bluster his way back; but it supports the speculation that he doesn't have either wise or smart advisors around him.

I haven't seen my gf in 2 years though we speak every day on discord. The restrictions have become worse than the disease as I quietly go mad. And idiots like him want to keep restrictions because they aren't suffering and make flippant remarks about "meeting partners"

If you've not seen your girlfriend for two years you must have had other reasons, perhaps your or her state of health? I'm not questioning that at all, but the position is unchanged and will remain so under the restrictions just passed - you can see her any time you feel it's sufficiently safe.

If it's lemon sized and yellow it is ready to rock. I mean, what's the downside, ripeness-wise, with a lemon, given that acidity is its USP anyway? If you leave it indefinitely it will just get tired and floppy, and possibly turn into a green lemon (not a lime, it'll still be a lemon).

She went back home to australia on a month long visit just before the covid lockdown. Because of the way australia is being she is scared to leave in case she cant just fly back. Her 26 year old son has a heart condition so she decided to stay and I agree with her decision. If she could fly back and forth at will she would have been back

It’s not that surprising. I learned years ago that oil spills get eaten by bacteria. Life is very resourceful. Why was a source of hydrocarbon chains that can form part of your cell walls, or by metabolised down to help make ATP? It’s why I’ve never bought into the idea that plastics will endure for thousands of years. Some might, but anything in water definitely won’t.

That could either be that he genuinely believes these regulations are needed, and that BoJo is slightly more plugged into reality than any likely successor. I can respect that.

And yesterday G, assured me Starmer's speech was dire. I had a look later and thought it was fine. It was supremely statesmanlike compared to the Peppa Pig speech or Johnson's speech from the evening before.

Starmer could have said he could only pass this if there were more support offered to hospitality [or countless other demands, pick your poison] and he'd have either won a major victory as that support was offered to win his votes, or the government would have been defeated.
