Should official Gov't communication be used to push the Tory line ? It might not be what May wants, but it would fulfill the question as set out on the ballot paper.
No they did not. Even if every Tory Brexiteer backed MV1 and MV2 it would still have lost.
No. If the Tory party had untied behind championing the deal from the outset, it would have got through. The ERG wouldn't have given remainers cover to oppose it, and Labour leavers would have taken their chance to make their mark on history.
Yep. If Brexit fails it will be because of the Brexiteers - what did they expect, voting against it?
They voted against a crap deal not Brexit.
But the ballot paper did not say anything about 'crap deal' and whether it was ok or not. So if you voted Leave, you were voting for any form of Leave - from BRINO to NO Deal and all stops in between.
Of course. So one of them should happen and then we should hold Parliament to account to how happy we are with what they've come up with.
Well, those that voted Leave can hardly complain about what sort of leave they get, even those who has since come to believe it wasn't a very smart choice.
Of course they can complain! That's a right every Englishman and woman has. People who don't vote have no reason to complain but those who do should.
They should follow through with their complaints if need be by voting accordingly at the next election. Call it taking back control.
Lol! And what about the poor sods who voted Remain? We lost, so we don't count. Just ignore is now, yes?
You get to complain, agitate and vote at the next election too.
If at the next election a party with a Rejoin manifesto wins, you get what you want back.

I’m not comfortable with that either, but then it is difficult for the CS to push back on this sort of thing.

NO because we would have to join the euro and that is a red line if ever there was one.

Andrew Adonis has a point. When all this is over some senior civil servants will have questions to answer.

You must be joking ?
This is precisely what isn't happening here, it's Gov't interference into what should be a neutral process. This absolubtely won't be driven by a Sir Humphrey.

Adonis never has a point. His statements over recent months have been seriously loony at at times. I am surprised anyone pays him any attention these days
If parliament has a majority for TM deal they will be able to override Bercow
I'm confused because didn't Bercow say the other day a motion to set aside his decision was possible if that was the will of the House? Now he seems to be saying such a motion won't be considered.

Certainly those who signed off on the info leaflet and the Treasury’s prophecy of doom.

The Speaker is another suffering from Brexit derangement syndrome.
Indeed. Sadly Mrs May has got away with this type of lying revisionism since the referendum. It is quite outrageous, and is a disgrace to the Conservative Party. Brexit means whatever additional things we want it to mean

The CS needs to push back. It would have been fine to say the govt opposes Common Market 2.0 for the following reasons. Bringing the referendum into it is wrong.
No they did not. Even if every Tory Brexiteer backed MV1 and MV2 it would still have lost.

So when JC wins the next GE and as part of his Venezuela programme he evicts you and your family to make way for a needy bunch of refugees, you just complain, agitate and vote at the next election, and hope you get what you want back when a more sensible Government is returned.
They are the main reasons people voted leave and were the the main discussions during the referendum campaign, to say otherwise is to ignore reality
Total rubbish. The referendum was a binary question. If you want to tag things on it requires additional referenda. Otherwise it is nothing more than a lie.

I see.
Yes its called democracy.
If you call what we have democracy, you are more naïve than I thought!

You’ve obviously forgotten the debates the literature the discussions of the campaign . All issues which framed the debate . To say immigration and sending money to the EU was not an issue for voting leave is delusional
If a DUP rep is brought in to the next phase negotiations (with invite to other parties to have a rep too) then might that swing the DUP to back the deal?
Indeed. Sadly Mrs May has got away with this type of lying revisionism since the referendum. It is quite outrageous, and is a disgrace to the Conservative Party. Brexit means whatever additional things we want it to mean
The graphic is true, but should not have been sent from a government department.
We did not vote to "technically" Leave the EU. Even Dave said so before the vote.
If you call what we have democracy, you are more naïve than I thought!
Democracy is you vote for what you want and campaign for what you want. I didn't agree with a lot the last Labour government did (and I don't agree with all this government does) but I will vote based on what I want and what I think is appropriate.
Cute that she's announcing it like this is her decision and she had a choice.
She does. There can be no challenge under the rules until December. So unless they moved to change the rules, she has the right to set the timing for her departure.
And if MV3 passes, she has earned the right. She persisted.
Theresa May, one of the least emotionally intelligent Prime Ministers in my living memory, claims she would like to bring the country together after having been a completely partisan and unlistening fool for the last three tears. God help us!
Cute that she's announcing it like this is her decision and she had a choice.
It is her choice. There are ways of forcing her resignation. But they have not been invoked. If resigning gets her deal thru, then good for her. Although it is somewhat late...

"It is a matter of great personal regret for me that this House has not been able to deliver on the will of the people and has forced me to request an extension for 7 years."

She will bring them together. She will bring the party and country together in being glad to see the back of her.
Just catching up. Another day, another chance for John Bercow to make an utter arse of himself. It’s now blantantly clear he’s trying for force a single vote on No Deal v Revoke A50.

And somewhat early to assume this gets her deal through .

The fact that we are STILL having this debate indicates quite how little anything has moved on in nearly 3 years. The question and answer on the ballot paper was not "What sort of future relationship do you want with the European Union? Yes or No." but it may as well have been given the clarity on future direction it has produced.
If you call what we have democracy, you are more naïve than I thought!

There is no alternative, except Civil War.
No, you refer to freedom of speech and action under the rule of law. We do (thank the Lord) have this. Democracy is a misused and abused word, and is hardly appropriate, particularly now, for our system of government in my opinion. We need "ever closer democracy" with extensive reform to our lack of separation of powers, our executive, and our bicameral legislature. It always irks me that Brexiters talk of the undemocratic EU. We are in no position to preach.

Carrying on the debate seems a trifle silly!
Do not forsake me oh my darlin'...
They should have just gone straight to voting - this 'debate' is a waste of expensive hot air
I see.
Then MPs can get on with the job on Monday.
We did not vote to "technically" Leave the EU. Even Dave said so before the vote. Does it mean her deal, or does it mean the negotiated settlement following the deal?

She'll be the Andy Dufresne PM... the woman who dug through a concrete wall and waded through a mile of shit to reach the other side.
