Yes, would be over then, think will call it a night. Well, we now join Norway and Switzerland outside the EU and neither are doing too badly even if we face some short-term pain. Goodnight
Free movement of people when Immigration won it for Leave ?
Switzerland don't have free movement.. We need to find a way to ensure we don't - for that is clearly what people want
Switzerland does have free movement. That's why in airports you have signs saying EU/EEA/Switzerland.

If Blair has called this referendum any time between 1997 and 2003 he would have won with about 70%.

The fault, such as it is, must lie with the intervening years of Iraq (on Labour), expenses (on both parties) and the economy (largely on the Tories), in some admixture. Given the strong Labour leave result and the similar pattern across the democratic world, I am inferring that it is #3.

Pound has just started to level off - is that it? Or are there still some deluded traders thinking Remain can win?

The pound and the FTSE are going to be going mental over the next *waves hands*. It'll take a fair while for the markets to wrap their heads around this. It's all down to the BoE, ECB and the CoE in the short term. If they mishandle it, big trouble. If they do their jobs, not so much.

Hmmm. We have a long period of uncertainty ahead of us. There's not much chance that anyone can prevent that.

    You were right.

Also, TNS and Opinium have won bragging rights.

Question for those in the know, how likely is the BoE to raise interest rates to defend Sterling?

Or are we likely to see the opposite??

The BoE's job is to use interest rates to defend inflation, not Sterling.
Defeat inflation? (More correctly, to keep it within its target range).

This is the best chance for a coup that Labour MPs will ever likely have, Corbyn's indifference in this referendum will have annoyed Labour's strongly Pro EU membership. The high chance of an imminent election and possible right wing Tory opponents could also focus minds.
