Virginia is having trouble with students forgetting their ID and having to have provisional ballots which may not be counted. This covers up to 10% of today's in-person votes.

E Day votes - Morris County, NJ

    🔴 Republicans - 40k
    🔵 Democrats - 24k
    🟡 Other - 29k

    2020 - 🔵 Biden +5

Biden won Morris by 4.2%. 300k votes were cast. Your subsample may or may not mean anything.
    Is Morris County in Scotland?
    What am I missing here?
An utterly useless subsample, which deceives the reader. It must be Scottish.

Hasn't FL been trending Rep for some years? So needs the baseline setting for that?
Yes - FL swung towards Trump in 2020, bucking hte national trend. Don't think you can read much into it
The Democrats haven't won a proper* statewide contest there since 2012, not even in 2018 in the Trump midterms.

If only. As he said way back in 2016 in the GOP primaries, I used to say it was rigged but then I won (paraphrase).

He alleges cheating even if he would win, either ignoring his past claim or saying support was so high it overcame it.

This is an interesting decision from Stokes....

England captain Ben Stokes will not take part in next year's Indian Premier League after opting out of the upcoming auction. Under tighter rules regarding player availability introduced this year, it means the 33-year-old will also be unavailable for the 2026 competition.

That is passing up $2-3 million easy.

In other news, my gas supply, which was cut off by a leak in the Edwardian infrastructure, might be restored tonight.

    Which is a relief.

Wasn't all the gas infrastructure replaced in the 1970's when we switched from "town" gas to North Sea gas so surely not really Edwardian?
The national gas grid is newer, certainly, but not in towns and cities.

There’s still loads of old infrastructure, some of it Victorian.
    For example:
    https://cadentgas.com/news-latest/news-archive/june-2024/major-blackpool-gas-mains-upgrade-in-the-pipeline

And awful lot of it isn’t properly mapped.
There are still 24in mains made of cast iron, with lead welded joints.

There’s a rolling program to replace it all - prioritised by leak occurrence.
But we’ll probably have stopped using gas anyway before it’s all done.

The stuff outside my house was cast iron, so certainly pre-70s (which was when plastic was first introduced). Probably way older.

On track for record turnout here in MI:

Michigan is already seeing record voter turnout, on track to match its highest election turnout on record, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson told CNN. There has been “extraordinary engagement and turnout all across the state,” said Benson, who has been visiting polling sites throughout the day. “There are literally parties at the polls – people dancing, people celebrating, which is kind of what today should be,” she said.

There are studies on progress to replace the gas network with one that is hydrogen capable. Apparently the big cost differential is removal of the existing pipework.

This endorsement may surprise some: "Former KKK leader David Duke endorses Jill Stein in US presidential race
Leading white supremacist and antisemite says he’s backing the Jewish candidate over Trump because of former president’s ‘full-throated subservience to Israel and the Jewish lobby’"
    source: https://www.timesofisrael.com/former-kkk-leader-david-duke-endorses-jill-stein-in-us-presidential-race/

It's tough for anti-semites to know who to vote for nowadays.
Can't say I approve, but good of you to admit it.

I have mainly sat on my hands as I believe Palestine will affect Harris vote by a margin

Finally decided to put my first bet of US Presedential Election as 2.58 was too tempting even though any payout may take weeks to payout.

£100 is the smallest I have bet on a major political event for years but am not at all confident so that's it this time round.

John Oliver's bit on the election looked incredibly reluctant in backing Harris despite his despising Trump. It was heavily about that issue and sure it was endorsement, but it was much more 'we have to do this' than any enthusiasm, which worries me about super progressives

It was a CNN exit poll gag.

A suggestion that they might have released something mildly interesting. Which seems unlikely.

As you know rumours of Trump overperforming in NJ persist. If that happens, the odds that Kamala's medium rank (NH/MN/VA) will fall to Trump is considerably larger, and you can wave goodbye to the battleground states. :(

All I have seen on here is posts like this and something about two LBC callers saying their mates in NJ are voting Trump. What are you actually pointing to here?
    The tweets from https://nitter.poast.org/PpollingNumbers
Specifically the ones about NJ (Trump in lead?) and FL (Trump exceeding expected lead)
I’d like to see the underlying data and what the comparisons are to. Are they comparing like with like? I’m a bit distrusting of sources that just post data without context.

Not enough ballot papers in the polling stations. Always a shambles.

Fair point. And they are not posting everything. Which means that i) they are cherrypicking posts to put Trump in a good light, or ii) they are posting things at random and those random posts all point in one direction.

Yes. Kamala ordered them to go down with her dodgy phone call.

Just one of the many ways of trying to make sure that only the right people can vote.

Not sure can take too much from CNN first exit poll data. ClifNotes,

People are pissed about current state of things, don't think Biden was any good (but not that bad i.e. not Starmer level bad) and optimistic about the future.

Such big elections always bound to be some issues. I look forward to arguments a potential issue in a small county means millions should have their votes disregarded, as happened in PA last time.

That's very mildly positive for Kamala - because you'd expect her to get the Democracy and Abortion votes, while Trump would get Economy and Immigration.

On a 75% hunch, that’s somewhere between rash and idiotic.
