On topic the question is a good one and no one has answered it (save for @HYUFD with his customary logic regarding dates and seasons).
Why cricket and not football. Or vice versa.
I assumed we all skipped over it or made a joke because it’s a silly question. The ECB and the FA made different decisions (in reality, probably some years ago in preparation) in isolation from each other, and no third party intervened. It really is that simple. Having made their decisions, they were stuck with them.
One other point - a full football schedule requires more policing, which I guess influenced the FA/league discussion.
Also, if County Cricket stopped, would anyone notice?
When I was a Middlesex Member* I often took my laptop and worked from Lords. You watch a bit of cricket and it’s quiet and peaceful.

People just need to relax, and not let it bother them if they dont care, and dont judge others for not caring if you do care.

Eldest Son and I had a long chat this morning. He is not normally much concerned with monarchy but he said that he has found himself really very moved by the loss of the Queen. He said that if it was as if he's discovered patriotic bones he didn't know he had. Interestingly he said that it started last year when Philip died. Someone at work was carping about the fuss and Son found himself saying crossly that Philip had fought in the war etc and had done more than this person had done etc.
I think too it has also reminded him of how we felt as a family when his Nonna (grandmother) died - that sense of loss of a connection with our past, our childhood and our history as a family.
Anyway, he currently plans to be amongst the crowds at the funeral rather than watch it on TV just to get that sense of connection, of being with others. And maybe that need is at the heart of what many feel - not necessarily grief as such, though there is an element of that, but the need to be with others, to be part of a collective, something bigger than ourselves. And as I need to be in London for other reasons, I rather think I may join him. It will be a historic event after all.
I'm a little surprised to find myself in this position, to be honest. But hey ho ..... events. And our children can surprise us and teach us.
On the subject of Ukraine, my personal view is that the one thing the Russians cannot afford is for thousands - or tens of thousands - of their troops to be captured.
Dead. Injured. These can be hidden, at least in the short term.
But captured troops in Ukraine is a massive problem. Because those troops can speak. And their mothers will agitate for their return.
If there are mass captures, then I think Putin's days are numbered.

Listening to the start of the cricket match and it feels very clear that the decision not to play any football matches today was wrong. People need to be together to express themselves collectively at a time like this, and many people will do that through sport.

Tet came as a total shock to the USA, at a time when the Americans complacently thought the war was quietening down with no major moves
In many ways thereafter the Tet was a failure for Hanoi and the Yanks pushed the VC back quite easily
But Tet broke the American will to fight. It showed Americans at home the war was unwinnable and the North would never give up, and would endure any cost. From that moment Saigon 73 was inevitable

The funeral, and the coronation to follow, will be even more astonishing in their attendance.
I think too it has also reminded him of how we felt as a family when his Nonna (grandmother) died - that sense of loss of a connection with our past, our childhood and our history as a family.
Anyway, he currently plans to be amongst the crowds at the funeral rather than watch it on TV just to get that sense of connection, of being with others. And maybe that need is at the heart of what many feel - not necessarily grief as such, though there is an element of that, but the need to be with others, to be part of a collective, something bigger than ourselves. And as I need to be in London for other reasons, I rather think I may join him. It will be a historic event after all.
I'm a little surprised to find myself in this position, to be honest. But hey ho ..... events. And our children can surprise us and teach us.
