Look on the bright side, the restrictions start from 23 March, so we’ve almost done a day already.2

One thing I would have done, make everybody who is in the "essential worker" category do an application online with ID / proof and for instance in London your oyster card won't work without approval and you have a print out which can be checked if asked.0

It would be the same if we had Corbyn in charge if we were attacked by the Russians....
Ultimately they would both do the right thing.....but their political ideology slows them down....
NHS frontline staff are woefully unprotected...this is today....this is due to the Govt not taking the threat seriously enough at the outset (ideological) and not having the organisational ability how to do it (competence)
Nobody capable of doing so on their own initiative ?
ICU beds are another matter and technical equipment....but at least protective equipment....
Other stuff would have been easy too..accommodation nearby for those who can take it....the staff are using public transport...they are not even getting access to use the car parks for free
If hospitals are short of PPE they should have ordered more - that could have been prompted from the hospital management, the H&S dept, the purchasing dept, or any front line staff.
This "Boris hasn't provided enough PPE" is bollox.
People have to shown initiative in this world if they want to sort out problems.

The direction of travel is clear, but the restrictions announced by the UK prime minister still fall short of the measures in place in many European countries, where most people can’t now leave their houses without a special permit.
In Italy and Spain even outdoor exercise is banned. Thousands of people who break the rules have already been hit with fines, and in some countries prison sentences can be imposed.

OT, weird thing about the US is that the president is GOP, but all the narrowest-margin swing states have Dem governors. And the decisions that affect people's lives directly mostly come from their governors.
It's really hard to tell whether people are going to be rallying behind their leaders or hopping mad with them, but one permutation is a weird dynamic where Dems lose the states where they're narrowly behind and make pickups in the places that are a stretch, like Georgia, Arizona and Texas.0 -

No it will only work by compliance, the one situation that I can see police getting involved in is gatherings in public places, the rest remains up to the individual. I run the risk of being stopped each time I’m out and need ID and a valid reason to be out, easy up till eight but more difficult afterwards. In Italy and Spain even outdoor exercise is banned. Thousands of people who break the rules have already been hit with fines, and in some countries prison sentences can be imposed.

Of course the state can't enforce every single part of it. The idea is that the vast majority don't try and go for 10 runs a day for LOLs and they enforce it against the worst offenders who are out and about for no good reason and use your f##king brain, do everything possible to minimize your contact with everybody outside your family unit.
If Boris had tried to list every single job and task on a nasty or nice list he would still be there when everybody is dead from the damn virus.0 -
Glad to see the general consensus is to accept and comply with the new situation in the UK. Not much evidence of mad libertarians claiming their freedoms have been removed and condemning the PM for his actions. It’s up to us all to do what’s necessary as it’s in every bodies interest. I’m in day 10 of shut down PB helps to connect to the rest of the world as does FB and other communication tools. The sooner this is over the sooner we can get on with life, I’m sure we all will spend a few moments thinking about the front line staff and maybe spare a thought for the politicians who find themselves where they are and to a large extent are doing their best. Keep posting and goodnight.4

Is the government going to institute a blanket cancellation of all government-mandated deadlines, for example VAT returns, PAYE deadlines, Companies House deadlines, etc? Because if not, how the hell are businesses and individuals supposed to keep complying?0

So does everyone in the NHS need Boris Johnson to tell them to order more PPE ?tyson said:@kle4
I think Boris prevaricated because at the start because he essentially doesn't believe in the state.....
And don't get me started on masks and gowns.
This is not just an issue about staff. Without PPE, resuscitation will not happen. There is no emergency in a pandemic.
