Tim Farron's folksy/comic verbosity is actually grating. He's making a twat of himself, live on BBC1.
Nick Robinson is enjoying himself, doubling down on Tim's self-inflicted twattiness.

Hmm. I think it is a generational thing. I saw your posting and my first thought was if I saw a band that played less than 20 songs I would feel cheated. But most of the bands I watch have been around for decades. Of those I have seen in the last couple of yearsJonWC said:Coldplay fan who also saw them at Wembley.. easily the most impressive show I've ever seen. How many bands can play over twenty songs at a concert?
Springsteen regularly does 30 plus songs - 33 when I saw him at Coventry last year
Fleetwood Mac did 23 at Leeds in 2015
The Eagles did 27 at Leeds the year before
ELO did 20 at Nottingham
Even the young upstarts Suede did 27 at Leeds last year.
Surely the question should be: how many good or great songs can you play, i.e. how brilliant is your back catalogue? Most pop stars can only claim one or two famous songs (if they write themselves).
The acts in a different league can claim a dozen, even two dozen: the Beatles, the Stones, Led Zep, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Genesis, the Smiths, Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees, Abba, the entire Stone Roses first album (and nothing since)
I struggle to name bands post 1985 because I genuinely think pop music has declined since then, the way Italian painting declined post-Raphael, or English verse drama after Shakespeare.
There was a golden age of popular music, and it was 1965-1985, maybe 1990 at a push. Art forms are born, they thrive, and then they kind of die - or evolve dramatically into something different.
For the best song about breakup, I would nominate Husker Du's "Don't want to know if you are lonely"

I share the gut feelings of those who think that this was always the Tories of it has swung back to them as it got a bit more serious.
I started off with a majority of about 120, came down to 80 and am now moving back over 100. Despite May's best efforts she is going to win and win fairly big. But it was never a fair fight.0 -

No, no, no. There are lots of different versions of magnolia. If you don't know which one you have, get a flake of paint and get it colour-matched at your local d-i-y store. Probably cost around £20 for the smallest sized pot. You can probably just paint a couple of coats over the damaged part with a roller. Make sure the wall is prepped (i.e. lightly sanded and painted over with a base coat of diluted paint) before you start so it doesn't flake off again.paulyork64 said:

Wonder if the tories will do the same ?
There's a few more plausible targets for them close by.

I see the actor Mark Ruffalo, not even a Brit, has endorsed Corbyn
Because @jeremycorbyn offers people an alternative to the Corporate status quo, which never ends well for them, I humbly endorse Corbyn.
I really like him as an actor, but that is such a twatty way of putting an endorsement, and there are no shortage of examples. 'Humbly' endorse, my arse. And no, celebs going 'anyone who votes for Corbyn is a fool' would not be much better, but at least is less twatty.0 -

If you like Buckley, I recommend best of enemies on Netflix. Good fun seeing him spar with Gore Vidal.Casino_Royale said:
What I love about this is there is *no* embellishing: it's just one hour of very serious conversation, with a proper interviewer asking penetrating questions.isam said:@SeanT
By the way, here is more Enoch & Buckley. No talk of immigration here, just a beautiful deconstruction of the prices and incomes policy, the perils of socialism and the moral conundrum of standing for parliament when you don't agree with the party line
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es0YGdROxVE
Nothing else.
In modern times, the interviewer would only be interested in forcing a gaffe, embarrassing the subject, or outing them as a bigot. The politician would want to avoid the questions, and get their soundbites across.

Well the cover was pretty good at getting labours message across,it nearly frightened me into voting labour ;-)

I wouldn't recommend toothpaste. Ask neighbours? Loads of people have half pots of paint stored away and magnolia is v popular.KentRising said:Completely OT: I have accidentally scratched the wall in my hallway- the paint has come off. Just a small scratch. Any DIY advice? I don't have any paint sample pots. Colour is magnolia. Maybe smear some toothpaste?? Help.
Well, can't be any more boring than my usual posts.....
It may well be possible to do something similar.0 -

Unconfirmed report that 1000's of PVs gone missing in the SW of England (as has mine and my daughters boyfriens) councils asking for people to report it to eliminate the possibility of fraud. Whilst mine is in yeovil major concern is Plymouth. As I said unconfirmed source seeking confirmation. They need to know to check if the vote has been used in the event of a challenge to the result and was not submitted by the person entitled, but difficult to do as you would have to forge a signature, more likely a problem in the postal distribution system.0

People are taking a break in order to have the partisan energy to go into the last days of the GE- like politicians being up for 2 days straight, you need to prepare for a marathon session like that.gettingbetter said:Sorry to interrupt, anyone know where the politics forum has gone?

I reckon pop song writing is (ahem) a bit like thriller writing. People sneer at it (especially if it is popular) because it appears cheap and ubiquitous - sold in supermarkets like detergent. In reality, it is very difficult and few can do it well, hence the huge rewards if you get it right - as the Bee Gees clearly did.

I've heard Corbyn speak, and he can be pretty good, although often his content is blander and more cliche than I'd have expected- why do people turn up in their thousands and thousands to hear it? I'd rather catch the clips of a speech from someone I supported than watch it live, unless it was truly groundbreaking, and most of his stuff has been said a thousand times.0

All this talk of Buckley and Powell makes me nostalgic for Brian Walden and Weekend world - we criticise pols for being shadows of former years' but nobody today even the sainted A Neill can do the job that Walden used to - as for politicians Powell and Foot sparring over opinion polls and the EC makes me embarrassed for our current crop0
