Which may be why Javid is going to see her? Someone needs to wield the knife. In return for being kept on in a plum position as kingmaker. Could that person be the Saj? Wouldn't bet on it.

> Rory certainly. Mrs May is very sensible in her political positioning, but not in her assessment of whether her positioning can be implemented in parliament as things now stand.
I think her problem is in the execution and in the persuasion of others to follow her.
More suited to the backroom than front of house.
"The execution of others"?
The parallels with Game of Thrones are getting stronger by the minute.
All sounds possible except for the Lidington part. Don't see why TM can't remain as PM while the Tories have their contest to elect a new leader.
In fact really, it is her duty to do so... Don't think we've ever had a PM that has just gone without their successor being put in place since Anthony Eden?
On the Euro elections note there's been a flurry of leaflets in the last couple of days. In Yorkshire and I've now had Change, Brexit, UKIP, Labour x 2, Green, English Democrat. Only ones I'm missing now are LD, Yorkshire and the mythical Tory ones.
> @bigjohnowls said: > > @Benpointer said: > > First! Like the LDs in London > > very unlikely
I'd say about 50/50. Labour vote is very weak and a number of party members I have spoken to said they are voting LD. Labour's performance will be dire, probably its worst ever in a euro election - this would be seen as a disaster for an opposition party were it not for the Tory calamity that is absorbing our attention.
David Lidington will sort everything out brilliantly.
He’s a Sidney Sussex old boy and used to sorting out the mess begat by Old Oxonians.
Hm. I'm married to a Sidney Sussex old girl (not that old, he hastily adds) and it hadn't struck me that the college was known for its political brains. It does have one renowned political brain, but it's buried under the chapel.
Get rid of May now and the next Tory leader has to go straight to Brussels and ask for the backstop to be removed and replaced by a technical solution and if not they will have to call a general election in October on a platform of No Deal as the current Commons will always vote for further extension or if refused by Macron likely revoke over No Deal

The backstop is an interim guarantee. It can't be replaced with something that doesn't deliver.

That would be great for two reasons:
1. I have money on an October election. 2. Labour would win a majority on a manifesto promising a 2nd referendum with the Tory vote split with The Brexit Party.

As executive power is delegated by the sovereign to the Prime Minister and their cabinet, there has to be a PM. If the incumbent does not wish to act as caretaker after submitting their resignation, somebody has to be appointed.

Not really, he was a possible option before things changed 30 seconds later. Liddington has always had the job title that says were the PM to fall under a bus he takes over short term..
Stepping back to ponder. We are talking about ditching the PM on the eve of an election. Really think about how utterly unprecedented that is. To be even suggesting it.
Bring in Ken Clarke and see how many head bangers spontaneously combust... But I'd rather see one of their own carry the can if no deal really does happen...

Yep - As did I back in December (also at 100-1) and Mr Meeks earlier today at 45-1 (he took all the 59-1).
I have to admit its strange how many people on here will be both happy and unsurprised were things to play out this way.

Only in the sense that he would find it hard to command a majority. Meanwhile Hunt wants to see the PM too. Gonna be crowded in there.
