It is one of the most moderate Conservatives - Ruth Davidson - that has saved the Tories tonight. The country has not swung as right, as some Conservatives imagined that it had.
There's a pleasing symmetry in seeing Scottish seats which were profitable long-odds SNP gains in 2015 turning into profitable long-odds SNP losses this time.

May is 100% gone. She's easily in her last 24 hours as leader.
If she steps down, who is the PM? Isn't she obliged to at least begin the the next government as the leader of a minority government?
Her electoral gamble has backfired and her GE campaign has been dire. But May is likely to be the leader of the winning party in the GE with just short of a majority and therefore now arguably has a democratic responsibility to form a government, if she is in a position to do so.

Theresa May isn't right wing.
She's more to the right that Ruth is.
Not sure she is. As far as I can see, beyond being anti-independence, Davidson doesn't really seem to have any clear politics.

She can resign as party leader but remain as PM for the transition.

She's been led by your dog-collar. And you're sitting pretty in Switzerland. The rest of us have to live with this result.

I think you'll find I'm in Enfield right now.
And when did I tell her to confiscate people's homes?

I'd disagree. Davidson is socially liberal, fiscally conservative. She's be on the left of the party, where Ken Clarke is.

@BradenDavy: The best part about the Gordon result was the fact Alex Salmond had to stand there and watch as Aberdeenshire told him where to go. #GE2017

5 more years of Tory government.
Or Baldwin in 1923
Why not wait until they have a leader and policy position you find more amenable
Seems so long ago, now.
1) May backing Fox hunting
2) Dementia tax and pretending you hadn't u-turned
3) Theresa May failing the Turing Test
Labour vote share 40%.
Mental.
There's the majority, right there.
And it could have been worse. Much worse.
Ruth Davidson has saved the country.
