Thanks all for your answers to my question.

In response to @Sandpit (who said this);-

"I'm an IT guy and her email story is implausible at best, dishonest in the middle and downright corrupt at worst.

AIUI you're a lawyer/investigator working in financial services.

How would you react if one of the senior traders at your firm was caught with company secrets / client data on their own email account? Not just a random gmail account either, but on their own server at home? When you asked them to turn it over, they produced a pile of printed out emails and had wiped the server with industrial server cleaner. Yet when questioned they say there's nothing wrong and you have everything you need to see.

What do you say about that person, when the boss asks you for a reference for their promotion? "

If one of our staff did that they would certainly be disciplined and almost certainly dismissed. But that doesn't explain the vitriol and hatred. On its own, anyway.

As for @MaxP: A good rib of beef for Xmas lunch is one of life's joys. None of this turkey/goose rubbish. Buy your beef from a proper butcher. And don't be put off by all this nonsense about how difficult it is to cook. Nonsense all of it.

Thanks for the reply. IMHO Hillary Clinton is completely unfit to be president, as she would be unfit to work at your company, let alone get a promotion.

Now Donald Trump is an idiot, and really shouldn't still be in the race. If I were American, I'd want to live in Utah so I could vote for McMullin. Failing that, I'd vote Johnson>Trump>Clinton

I'm getting the distinct impression that FOIAs are getting some priority impetus.

I've read dozens of articles citing pissed off FBI agents and this looks like throwing mud back in spades against Democrats who've insulted them en masse. Hillary's team made a massive mistake trying to demonise Comey a la Ken Starr.

He's considered to be a straight arrow and it's backfired all over them.

Grouping all the polls like that is meaningless, and lead/tie doesn't say anything about what is happening to the lead. Most likely is it's going down.

True - at the moment 538 has Trump the favourite in 7 swing states - but still 1 short. He needs one of the above to fall AND take the rest where he is favourite. It is unlikely the polls will cause 538 to make him favourite in any over the next 6 days - but a week is a long time in politics.

I am amused by some of the comments on here today with regard to Trump. Anyone would think he is riding a crest of a wave, when in reality he has slightly improved his polling. He seems to have a ceiling he cannot pass through. Clinton on the other hand has a higher floor and higher ceiling. This is probably as good as it gets for Trump and I suspect something else will come out of the woodwork with regards to Trump over the coming days.

I am also puzzled by some British posters on this site wanting Trump to win. ODD!

I think it was the fact that he deleted recordings pertaining to a criminal act - i.e. breaking into the Watergate building - that was the issue.

This whole thing is insane - the pollsters are using useless D+ and Trump is still winning.

Reagan reversed his massive deficit because of two things - a late debate and Carter's failure to resolve the Iranian hostage crisis the weekend before polling.

This is a totally different game.

ODD!

Wikileaks is also apparently planning a final drop in the last few days of the campaign, which will presumably be about Hillary. Plenty more dirt on both sides of the aisle. As I have said before if I were American I would probably reluctantly vote Hillary but Trump would be better for Brexit UK having said he would do a trade deal with the UK before the EU unlike Hillary.

Hillary's average poll lead has now fallen to 1.9%, if replicated at the election that would make 2016 the 4th closest presidential election in popular vote terms since WW2. However given Hillary leads Pennsylvania by 4.9% on average, Colorado by 2.4% and Virginia by 4.7%, a Trump popular vote win is still more likely than a Trump electoral college win

Does this stuff matter any more? So much mud has been thrown both candidates are already covered head to toe in shite.

And surely anyone who can be swayed away from Trump will already have shifted to Clinton, from the plentiful evidence, hitherto presented, that the Donald is a nutter and a dickhead.

It's very hard to call. If there is a Brexit effect, Trump wins. But I think he'll lose by a few points.
If there is a sharp trend from Clinton to Trump in the past few days, it does matter. At least to the extent that people are beginning to forget why they disliked Trump or are starting to remember why they disliked Clinton. It would only be unimportant if the polling was steady.

Thanks all for your answers to my question.

    snip

If Hilary were an employee where I work she would be dismissed for breaches of procedures. Maintenance of confidentiality is very important. But that is a long way from saying that someone is a criminal. Let alone saying that someone is unfit to be President.

LBJ was a pretty corrupt politician. And yet, Vietnam aside, he has some claims to be considered a great President for what he did in relation to civil rights for blacks and his attempt to help the poor, both black and white in the US. And Nixon too had achievements to his name.

You forget the fact that unlike in your industry such "breaches of procedure" with government classified data are definitely illegal - and others with different surnames are currently in prison for such breaches.

You mention Nixon. He had to resign as President for deleting 18 minutes of recording. Hillary has deleted 30,000 emails and not even started yet.
Nixon was a boy scout in comparison to what I've read re Wikileaks. I can't get over the LalalaLand of PB 'no one cares about this'.

Yeah, right. Except the FBI and interested voters.

I can think of several dozen who'd be easily indicted already - Watergate had 43.

I honestly suspect many PBers are in so much denial that they're missing witnessing an enormous scandal - I'm agog at it.

From the breezy optimism of a happy young student, to a life in a wheelchair. In a few seconds. And not even her fault. 19 years old.

A couple of little titbits, about polling and the dark arts of prediction, which might be worth a read under current circumstances...

    1. Brexit Surprise Due to Analysts' Bias, Not Numbers

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/11/01/brexit_surprise_due_to_analysts_bias_not_numbers.html

In which the author advocates the (entirely reasonable) notion that the polls in the run-up to the EU referendum weren't so very wide of the mark, and that the heavy assumption of a narrow Remain victory was mostly the product of bias, whether conscious or otherwise, amongst the analysts, who mainly belonged to a social group that found a Brexit outcome almost unthinkable. Though to be fair, I think that a lot of people have learned their lessons from this event and aren't treating a Clinton victory as quite the done deal.

    2. Early Voting a Poor Predictor of Final Results

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/11/02/early_voting_a_poor_predictor_of_final_results.html

In which we are reminded that turnout in elections is a complex beast. The analysis of the many possible implications of high early voting levels in North Carolina is particularly interesting.

Indeed, Florida is currently just under 1% tighter than Hillary's RCP average national poll lead on that Quinnipiac poll (though RCP has Trump 0.7% ahead in Florida on average), Trump could win Florida and lose the popular vote, just. However he could win the popular vote based on the RCP average, where Hillary leads by 1.9%, and still lose Pennsylvania, where Hillary leads by 4.9% with RCP and Colorado where she leads by 2.4% and the electoral college

    New @QuinnipiacPoll swing state polls:

    FL: Clinton 46—Trump 45
    NC: Clinton 47—Trump 44
    OH: Trump 46—Clinton 41
    PA: Clinton 48—Trump 43

Absolutely dire polls from Trumpton from a respected pollster.

Early Voting exit poll figures from same surveys. Awful for Trump. Absolutely awful.

    FL
    Clinton 48
    Trump 42

    NC
    Clinton 58
    Trump 36

    OH
    Clinton 58
    Trump 32

If those figures are anywhere near right, get Clinton 300+ covered before the bookies hear of it.

Now surely EVERYONE can agree that one is worth Plato re-posting?

It's all most entertaining. What sort of small dick wanker can't take Unsafe Space stuff?

Thanks for the reply. IMHO Hillary Clinton is completely unfit to be president, as she would be unfit to work at your company, let alone get a promotion.

Now Donald Trump is an idiot, and really shouldn't still be in the race. If I were American, I'd want to live in Utah so I could vote for McMullin. Failing that, I'd vote Johnson>Trump>Clinton

I think it was the fact that he deleted recordings pertaining to a criminal act - i.e. breaking into the Watergate building - that was the issue.
The issue with Nixon was, as the late Senator Rayburn put it, what did the President know about the burglary and when did he know it. As it turned out he knew a great deal more about it than he first claimed and much sooner than he claimed. It was the lies he told in relation to this which did for him in the end and the fact that throughout the investigation he sought to expand the President's executive privilege and interfere with the work of independent counsel. He was abusing the powers of the office and seemed to have little regard for the proper separation of powers between the executive and the judiciary.

Now I'm not a US criminal lawyer so don't know whether what Clinton is alleged to have done is or is not a criminal act. But she has not been charged and this latest brouhaha arises from the FBI saying that they have found material which is potentially relevant to their investigation. Finding potentially relevant material is a long way from a charge, let alone conviction as a criminal, a point which appears to be lost on some posters.

Honestly the Clintonettes want to turn this place into a safe space for them to talk to each other without interruption or contradiction.
