Musk is free to suggest a dissolution and the government is free to laugh in his face.
It’s gonna be hilarious if Musk and Ackmann convince Trump to slap sanctions on us for human rights failings re children and gangs
Very very dark, but not with humour
You really need to keep a lid on that "patriotism" of yours.
Yeah, it's amazing how so many people who screech about how much they love this country are happy to see Musk trash our reputation and interfere with our democracy.
Pathetic paper patriots.
Maybe we want to see the people who perpetrated the cover up of Muslim rape gangs get justice and that's more important than nationalism or patriotism? I love this country and yet this crime that was perpetrated and covered up shames the nation, the wilful blindness, the threats by the police against parents, the threats by councillors against whistle blowers it all needs to be aired in public for the world to see or we won't ever get past it. The longer it stays in the dark and festers the more trust in public life erodes and it's not exactly brilliant at the moment.
It's not enough that the rapists are seemingly finally being banged up, those who covered for them need to be banged up too and given exemplary sentences. They allowed these gangs to continue operating, they kept parents away from their children and left them to be tortured and raped on a daily basis. A rapist is going to rape and they should be put in prison to protect the public. A politician who turns a blind eye to it is a danger to society at large because they're aiding and abetting criminality at a large scale.
He's doing much more than that. He's attacking our elected government and trashing our country's reputation, and this is just his *latest* tool.
I'd also point out that he is, despite being an immigrant himself, rabidly anti-immigrant. Or the 'wrong' sort of immigrant. You may want to consider when the anti-immigration feelings he is broadcasting will start affecting *your* community, and not just Muslims.
Because after they come for my wife (who is an immigrant from a Muslim country), they may start coming after other immigrants. That's the way racists work.
Is the government so weak it can't stand a bit of scrutiny? The Tory government endured much worse for 14 years.
I don't think you understand just how sickening the rape gangs were and the kind of attitude that still pervades among authorities that covered for them. The reason I want a full public inquiry that airs all of the dirty laundry is so that those far right conspiracy theorists are no longer able to use it as a political tool for their ends. If we have the inquiry, start prosecuting the people responsible for the coverups, put measures in place to never allow it to happen again, pay millions in compensation to the victims, let the whistle blowers go public and tell their stories, give the victims their say unimpeded and unadulterated. Don't let anyone off the hook and chase it as high as it goes, even if it implicates multiple home/justice secretaries who also turned a blind eye from the Labour and Tory governments.
This can never be allowed to happen again and frankly your concern over "but the immigrants might feel unsafe if it's made public" is exactly what has caused this all in the first place.
I can’t disagree.
Far too many of our ruling class are willing collaborators with evil.
I agree it's a shame the Tories hid this for 14 years
It isn’t a party political issue, there’s hundreds of thousands of victims here, and thousands of people of all parties who enabled them.
Tories: let’s nail this on Labour. It’s a party political issue Tories: there should have been a public enquiry, why won’t Labour grant it Facts: the Tories blocked the public enquiry, here’s the evidence Tories: it isn’t a party political issue
It's party political to the extent that it was (mostly) Labour local politicians that covered it up but I think the problem is so wide and vast it will cover every single party in shit which is why neither of them want it. Labour are just unlucky to be in power now when there's going to be unbearable pressure to call the public inquiry and it all airs on their watch. Kemi is an opportunist and the Tories may or may not benefit from it because most of the coverup blame will be laid at the feet of Labour councillors but there will be enough shit for everyone.
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse
It's payback for the Labour activists helping Kamala. I think Trump realises how weak Starmer is and how easy it will be to bully him into doing things.
You sound almost happy about it.
We need to start ramping up defence spending.
Anything that hurts Labour is fine with me. Starmer and Reeves are making the country poorer and destroying family run businesses and farms with punitive taxes. I think it was the farm tax that was the last straw for me, I very much believe in the idea of farm to fork and Labour dismantling the family run farm seriously sets that back and all it will do is increase air miles on our food as smaller producers go bankrupt or sell out to big American agribusiness. I think from that moment I went from ambivalent to actively wanting Labour out, they are doing generational damage to our nation.
Not only that, the farm tax brings in about £600m a year, I believe. While we’re spending almost £4 BILLION a year on keeping asylum seekers in hotels, and we had a record year of arrivals in 2024 IIRC, despite Skyr “smashing the gangs” - so the cost is only going to surge
I thought there had already been a National Enquiry, under Braverman.
Maybe 5? Three on specific gangs, one on characteristics of such gangs, and a very large one on child sexual abuse more broadly https://www.iicsa.org.uk/index.html that has published 24 research reports, 19 investigation reports, 8 reports on engagement with victims, an interim report and an overall final report.
All of which has resulted in how many public officials being prosecuted?
Yes, that’s part of the anger. Where’s the reckoning? Where are the bent, lying, craven councillors, cops, bureaucrats, politicians doing time? Or even facing trial? Any? Any at all???
A new inquiry must have the power and obligation to send people to the CPS with a recommendation for trials
Some PBers were saying that a decade ago.
The likes of Cameron and May chose to do nothing.
Why because the likes of Leon Brittin had prowled the corridors of Westminster and had to be hidden

It’s grotesque and it’s unsustainable
The reported figure for the Chagos idiocy was £800m. Putting our farmers out of business to give Mauritius a country and a bribe to take it.
I also wonder how many of those asylum seekers go to join their local grooming gang as soon as they arrive and how big of a pull factor that is for these men...
Also a 33% rise in boat illegal immigrants after Labour got into power and removed the Rwanda scheme. Apparently not having any deterrent or downside risk will result in more arrivals. Shocking.

Luke Littler was SPotY runner-up. He'd have won if the world championship came a month earlier.
You’re never winning SPoTY in Olympic year if you’re not an Olympian. Keely was the right winner last year, and she has a personality to go with the gold medal.
Luke should be massive favourite this year now though.

Well, I see that there has been the usual outrage about the appalling rape and abuse of girls.
Understandably - given the horrific nature of what was done and described in the transcripts of the sentencing remarks. What was done was horrific.
But was it that much more horrific than what you can find on internet porn sites easily enough? Indeed, how many of the men were carrying out in real life what they saw on porn sites? And how many of those men expressing outrage are equally outraged about the abuse of girls routinely uploaded to pornhub etc?
Or is the outrage only about who is doing these dreadful things? And conveniently ignoring all the other types of men who have done horrific things to women, girls, children (of both sexes) in all sorts of places and institutions for decades and decades while people turned a blind eye and promoted those in charge rather than holding anyone accountable?
Have you read some of the more hideous details from the rape gang sentencing? I’m not urging you to do so. They are profoundly disturbing. What’s incredible is that reporters in the courts say that even MORE disturbing details are still being repressed - to keep the public peace
What on earth are they?
As for your well-meant remarks on porn, actually, no, you could not and cannot - thank God - find anything this depraved online or anywhere
If such porn exists - I hope and pray it doesn’t - it will stuff bought and sold on the dark web, or whatever
I have.
I have - in my professional capacity - seen and read about some extremely disturbing stuff online. I am afraid that I don't agree with your belief that you cannot find this stuff online. I think that the role of extreme porn in degrading male sexuality and the consequent harm to women and children needs to be faced up to and addressed. It's not just the cultural/ethnic origins of the perpetrators our society likes to turn a blind eye to.
Your larger point, I think, is that sexual abuse is so prevalent in society, that the events in Rotherham (and elsewhere) are only unusual in the way that the authorities attempted to cover them up ?
Pretty much all such cases get covered up, wherever they occur because the institutions- whether state or private - put their own interests first. The mechanism - institutional self-protection is the same, whether the abusers are sports coaches, broadcasters, priests or ethnic minority men.
Remember also that cover ups are easy because it is often very hard to get those who are abused to speak up in the first place. They either lack the means to describe what is happening clearly or do not realise that what is happening is wrong or abnormal. So adults need to recognise the signs. That requires an understanding, a real commitment to safeguarding and care and sensitivity and time and the establishment of trust. That does not happen easily and certainly won't if those in authority share a general disdain for girls, for troubled or difficult children and for working class girls and children.
Abusers prey on the vulnerable and the vulnerable who are abused become troubled and difficult because of the abuse, which in turn makes it hard for those in authority to take them seriously or care for them. It takes real effort and it is harrowing work.
Incidentally the first press article about such abuse was written by Julie Bindel in 2006 and it took her a lot of effort to get that published.People simply did not want to hear. And the drama series "Three Girls" in 2017 had nowhere near the same impact as the Mr Bates drama: there was no determined twinkly eyed hero having pints in the Welsh countryside.

The list that Trump has sworn to come after is so long, I really doubt Starmer will make it to the top of the list in four years...
It’s the front page of tomorrow’s Times. Trump and Musk coming after Starmer
There are two different dynamics here.
1. Trump and Musk, while being typically oafish and meddling in foreign countries’ affairs, almost certainly don’t understand the history of this or the fact Starmer’s Labour wasn’t in power at the time 2. Badenoch and large parts of the Tory tribe who are trying to milk this know exactly what the history is and the fact it happened on their watch, and are being extremely hypocritical- just as they were with Ed Davey and the post office.

Bullshit. Absolute bullshit. You seem very keen to blame everyone who disagrees with you for being in league with those who 'caused' this.
To be clear: I am not. And I have talked a hell of a lot more about all forms of abuse on here than you ever have.
As for government scrutiny: I'm all for it. But supporting a racist like Tommy Robinson is *not* scrutinising the government. It is supporting a racist.
You can't decide your position on something based on saying the opposite to Tommy Robinson. Even bad people and idiots are right sometimes. Hell, there are one or two things I agree with Jeremy Corbyn about.
If someone, anyone, had done some real digging when Nick Griffin mentioned it on Question Time in 2009…

Shocking.
Isn’t it £800m every Year?
It’s a nevernever land of truly terrible governance
Wait it's £800m per year, I thought it was just a one off. Fucking fuck this guy. He's literally put our farmers in the shit to pay for this stupid deal.
£800m pays for half the Wfa - that’s an utterly insane deal to sign
Honestly, Trump is our only hope here. He'll nuke the deal on day one.
If someone, anyone, had done some real digging when Nick Griffin mentioned it on Question Time in 2009…
If only people had listened when a woman spoke up, eh!
Yes just read that piece earlier. Harrowing is an understatement. It’s quite shameful that there was no real followup for the best part of a decade after that 2006 article.
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse
Who cares. They are going to make Starmer’s life utterly miserable. Good
This is the first paragraph of the Guardian’s main story right now
“Keir Starmer will attempt to reset his premiership next week by setting out a series of radical NHS changes aimed at reducing waiting times for millions of patients in England.”
Hahahaha
How many “resets” has he had now? How many relaunches of his Labour government, in just the first six months?
Also, even in that piece the NHS admins call Starmer “delusional”
Could someone in her party send her the link? Or tell her about the Drew Review and Operation Stovewood by the NCA. Or the Jay report or what Dame Louise Casey has done?
Or remind her of what her fellow Cabinet Minister, Suellla Braverman, the Home Secretary to do in May 2023 when the final IICSA Report came out?
This is bandwagon jumping of the most tawdry kind instead of action - which she could have been asking for when she was an actual Cabinet Minister.
What magnificent results have these reports and enquiries produced?
The Drew Review was used to improve the approach of South Yorkshire Police.
Operation Stovewood: run by the NCA is the largest criminal enforcement investigation into non-family CSE. It has identified 1100 victims, has 50 investigations outstanding and has led to 36 convictions.
The Jay Report was used to improve services within Rotherham Council which was put into special measures. The council leader and head of children's services left.
It is something. By no means enough, of course.
But what actual use will yet another inquiry costing millions, reporting in a decade or so and telling us stuff we already know be? Because my suspicion is that this is not really about joining dots or understanding the manifold causes of male sexual violence - let alone taking effective action against it - but political point-scoring and a disguised fight about immigration, in which the needs of the victims - girls mostly - will largely be ignored.
Kemi is absolutely right to demand a full public enquiry. We quite rightly had one when postmasters' lives and livelihoods were ruined by public servants whose actions bordered on criminal. The victims of the grooming gangs deserve just as much justice, and the enablers of this abuse must be made to answer for their behaviour, and the causes brought into the open and eliminated from the public sphere.
This initiative is aligned to Kemi's long-held public stances on culture, and the stress she places on public bodies that don't work. It isn't just necessary, it feels authentic to her and what she stands for.
🙂↔️ you are clueless.
Kemi is in an official office, but the front page of today’s Daily Telegraph and Musk on X decides strategy and positions for her?
Then Kemi MUST lead at PMQs asking: how many beloved pets have been stolen and eaten by these outsiders to our country, for sure that hell is warmer than North Yorkshire today Bobby J will ask exactly this, at any moment.
This politics is developing just as awful for the Conservatives and their leader as could possibly have feared - ‘voting blocks’ on the marmite questions at the next General Election that favours Labour and Libdems mopping up seats from small % of votes from shrinking turnouts.
All Kemi’s questions at the next PMQs, at ALL PMQs this year, must flag to voters how an incoming government inherited a growing economy, that will now have absolutely no growth for the whole of 2025! leading to higher taxes and more borrowing to fill the expanding black hole.
Kemi should look to today’s FT front page, not the DT.
I think comparing the very real nightmare of gang-raped girls to rumours about Haitans eating pets is a bit rich for my blood to be honest, whether that was your intention or not.
There’s a goat gone missing around here, a much beloved family pet. Are you not thinking what we are all thinking about what’s happened to it? 🐐
It’s “that lot” over there - outsiders surging into our community, responsible for ALL the bad things, from no decent housing or dentists, to grooming gangs, and pets eaten.
If we tolerate this, our own families will be next.
Plus the fact Starmer was head of the criminal justice system, so any enquiry is really all about asking him why he failed us.
The intention is pointing out to everyone, you are a fellow traveller with fascism.
You don't deserve a response, but I shall give one just in case anyone gives a second thought to your thick-witted allegations.
I have said, until I'm blue in the face, in the last thread, and others, going back years, that I take a behaviourist view of the events in Rotherham and elsewhere, that there may have been cultural antecedents, but the ballooning scale of the events was itself due to the de facto immunity from punishment afforded by the authorities, which allowed groups of men to indulge their worst fantasies in a consequence-free environment. I blame the (primarily white) authorities for this cruel dereliction of duty, and that is what we need a public enquiry to establish and root out. We cannot stop crime at source but we can punish it and deprive those responsible of their freedom, in order to deter others as much as anything else.
What happened to those girls is not any kind of laughing matter, and your posts on this have for me crossed from your usual harmless buffoonery to grotesque, callous insensitivity. So well done on that. 🐐
“your posts on this have for me crossed from your usual harmless buffoonery to grotesque, callous insensitivity”
Nope. It’s YOU and your posts I’m satirising. To wake you up, so you can understand what you actually sound like to the rest of us - you sound just like Elon Musk - and prove how utterly wrong your position is on this.
For the grooming gangs horror to be used as an opportunist political football, as you are pushing all day, that would be the pinnacle of betrayal to all the victims, that would be the callous insensitivity, and certainly the wrong way for UK politics to go.
At heart of the issue, and only outcome that could make a difference for victims to now and the future, was a culture where the gangs were not pursued, because it was believed the victims would be not be strong enough witnesses. Thank goodness Nazi Afzal came along when he did, and turned that on its head, pity he didn’t get his position of power to make a difference earlier.
What did Nazi Afzal change? He started prosecuting the gangs for their crimes, and changed the understanding and culture towards grooming. All people in power, political and otherwise, at every level, were wedded to the previous culture of “the police pick up someone at a place they have been raped, take them elsewhere where they should be safe, a week later they are back at other place under their own decision, it’s pointless bringing it as it won’t stand up in court.”
So I am opposed to you, Lucky Guy, turning this fact into a political football. The reverse of what you are pushing is what is needed, all serious politicians to tread carefully and thoughtfully and to unite behind the new culture and approach, not just to grooming gangs, but where all crimes against people not getting convictions or charges brought, because rotten culture still exists that’s not understanding of grooming or trusting victim testimony.
Look at your posts today. Shame on you. You’ve got suckered by Musk and fellow fascists into a muddled mess. And you are not alone in that.
The only thing I feel anything close to shame about (embarrassment would be closer) is spending more than a second engaging with you and your tawdry set of posts on this issue. I find it hilarious that after comparing genuine rape gangs to scandals about missing pets, complete with oh so hilarious goat emoticons, you now make a whiny grab for the moral high ground - at least own your crude lack of empathy.
A public enquiry, which I've called for and supported Kemi in calling for, is the opposite of making this a political football. For a start, most of it will deal with a period when the TORIES WERE IN POWER. It's something I feel is absolutely vital in the reform of our police and other vital parts of the public sector, who chose, due to whatever culture was being promoted within their organisations, to side with rapists against their victims. It has shit all to do with the possibility of skewering Sir Keir - as you can see he is doing an excellent job of that himself.
Nor does my desire for a public enquiry have anything to do with Musk - I am one of the most neutral on Musk on this board, and I remain cautious about his influence on UK politics. I have expressed caution about his potential involvement with Reform, and did not condemn the Government for not inviting him to the growth summit. Your 'analysis' of what I think and why I think it shows a thudding lack of perception.
Public servants involved in the grooming scandal were not just showing a lack of 'understanding of grooming' or 'trusting victim testimony' they were turning a blind eye to crimes against minors who were too young to give their consent. But if your tedious equivocation is true, let a public enquiry show it to be so. That is no less than the victims deserve.
While we’re spending almost £4 BILLION a year on keeping asylum seekers in hotels, and we had a record year of arrivals in 2024 IIRC, despite Skyr “smashing the gangs” so the cost is only going to surge
It’s grotesque and it’s unsustainable
The reported figure for the Chagos idiocy was £800m. Putting our farmers out of business to give Mauritius a country and a bribe to take it.

I have been following the small boat stats this year. The period from 4 July to 31 December 2024 had 23k arrivals, 2023 same period had 18k, and 2022 had a whopping 33k.
So it was 27% higher than the prior year and 31% lower than 2022.
Time will tell how much is annual fluctuation based on loadings into Europe and how much is policy or policing. But Rwanda appears not to be an obvious influence: numbers were up year on year in the first half of 2024 too.

Also, Starmer was DPP at the time when this was all happening. His fingerprints are all over it and the refusal of prosecutions and the general attitude towards the victims of the rape gangs by the CPS and police. A public inquiry will be extremely embarrassing for him when middle ranking police detectives start suggesting it was the CPS not wanting to charge these people without any real reason given. There were attempts made and some arrests but no one was charged and Starmer was DPP at the time, the buck stopped with him.
What's becoming clearer to me is that the only way things will actually change in this country is by having a Tory/Reform coalition after the next election. The Tories had 14 years to bring these rapists to justice, stop the coverups and they did next to nothing, just a few nice sounding words. I never thought I'd see the day but I'm seriously considering voting for Reform if they're the likelier way to remove Labour from power.
I hate to be a pedant but please spell out the criminal offences for each of these groups - - police officers - Local police chiefs - Local councillors - social workers - those working in care homes - Heads of Social Services Departments - Local MPs - National politicians in the Home Office - Home Office civil servants

It really was inevitable that the so called sensible right wingers here would end up getting into bed with Elon Musk and Nigel Farage. Sad to see as there used to be some insightful opinions but Labour winning has completely scrambled the brains of some it seems.

The state in it's many forms has had 1400 years (and many more) to bring these rapists to justice. Maybe, just maybe, This Time Will Be Different.
Agreed. I didn't say they were unusual in being covered up; rather in the way that happened.
There was sex abuse at the boarding school I attended in the seventies - which didn't surface until the following decade, as the teachers involved, on being discovered, were given references to go to another school where they repeated their offences. (They subsequently served longish prison sentences.)
So I'm not naive about the capacity of men to do evil, and for those in authority to ignore it.
I hate to be a pedant but please spell out the criminal offences for each of these groups - - police officers - Local police chiefs - Local councillors - social workers - those working in care homes - Heads of Social Services Departments - Local MPs - National politicians in the Home Office - Home Office civil servants
When I took up a career in finance I agreed that I had to report anything I suspected criminal activity to the police as part of the accreditation from the regulator and I could have been prosecuted had I not done so and criminal activity took place I didn't report. The public sector, all state employees, need the same legally binding oversight if there isn't one already.

That’s how badly Labour is running Britain. Trump is our best hope in several ways
1. Cancelling Ed Milibandera’s net zero extremism 2. Exploding the crazily bad Chagos “deal” 3. Pressuring Labour to call an inquiry on the rape gangs
Wazzock. How is a foreign soon to be president our “Best Hope”. Specifically? You proposing that the US annex us?
Net zero was policy under the Tories The Chagos deal isn’t crazily bad Your mates the Tories refused a further enquiry on the rape gangs
You are so pointlessly reactionary that you may as well get a presenting slot on GBeebies.

The problem Starmer will have that any announcement will be lost in the press pack who are likely to be talking about Musk and Trump attack on him and his government
Starmer needs to grow some balls and simply shut X down. I say that as an adamant free-speecher, but it’s clearly a menace to society, and is allowing Elon Musk to attempt to suborn HMG’s democratically elected government.

Some PBers were saying that a decade ago.
The likes of Cameron and May chose to do nothing.
Why because the likes of Leon Brittin had prowled the corridors of Westminster and had to be hidden
What nonsense.
It’s more than that. It’s evil.
Leon Britton was categorically and absolutely cleared and the police forced to apologise to his widow.
@Shecorns88 is muck racking about someone who can’t defend himself

Eh, I was already frustrated with the Tories for being insufficiently right wing and not doing anything about this when they were in power. Kemi is simply an opportunist. If the Tories are able to replace her with someone that will bring about real change then I wouldn't consider Reform. It's regretful to get into bed with the likes of Reform, yet is there any other way you can see to bring any change to the UK? Labour are actively making things worse, the Tories had 14 years and they were pretty terrible all around.
I want the UK to be a safe country for my daughter to grow up in, yet over the past 3 years I haven't felt that at all and Labour will do precisely zero to improve that. So maybe a bit of law and order from Reform and locking up criminals and rapists is what we need.

You want to shut down Twitter. As in ban it. In the UK?
Starmer needs a rapid rebuttal unit. Someone to laugh down the President Musk and his idiocy. The tweet today saying that King Chaz should dissolve parliament and call a new election. He doesn’t even have the power, even if he wanted to. Laugh at Musk. Laugh down the fool and the clickbait morons.

Not knowing about something, not asking questions may well be morally indefensible - especially if you are a policeman actually at the scene of a crime but is not necessarily enough to charge someone with aiding and abetting a rape. Particularly not if you are at work miles away and it is not your job to investigate.
We are in danger of confusing an understanding of the institutional and personal failings which allow bad behaviour to happen and not be stopped (about which I am a far greater expert than you) and claiming that all these failings, serious as they are, must automatically be criminal offences.
If silence about sexual assaults perpetrated by others or a failure to ask were criminal offences, a very large proportion of the male population of these islands would have to be convicted.
That might well be what we need but are the men screaming for it really sure they have thought this through?

£800m a year and territory given away isn't bad? Are you mental?
I hate to be a pedant but please spell out the criminal offences for each of these groups - - police officers - Local police chiefs - Local councillors - social workers - those working in care homes - Heads of Social Services Departments - Local MPs - National politicians in the Home Office - Home Office civil servants
I just can’t be arsed to have a long legalistic argument. Also, I happily yield to your superior legal knowledge
However I have quite a deep knowledge of the rape gangs story - wrote about it many years ago, and since. And I’ve seen dozens if not hundreds of cases where people acted criminally to enable this rape. Destroying evidence. Arresting THE GIRLS. Arresting their PARENTS who complained. Silencing whistleblowers. Presenting fake data. Compiling false analyses. Criminal negligence
Put them all on trial
And that’s my last comment on this bleakest of subjects for today
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse
The problem Starmer will have that any announcement will be lost in the press pack who are likely to be talking about Musk and Trump attack on him and his government
Starmer needs to grow some balls and simply shut X down. I say that as an adamant free-speecher, but it’s clearly a menace to society, and is allowing Elon Musk to attempt to suborn HMG’s democratically elected government.
Musk and Trump and Farage need taking head on. not giving them ammunition to accuse the UK of censorship of free speech

For some reason the algorithm has picked up on this story - which is hardly new - and a few days later MaxPB has radicalised to the extent that he now wishes to vote for a pack of con-artists.
I am also incredibly frustrated with Labour (useless) and the Lib Dems (doubly useless), and of course I won’t vote Tories since they triggered the UK’s seemingly terminal velocity via Brexit and the Boriswave.
I thought there had already been a National Enquiry, under Braverman.
Maybe 5? When I took up a career in finance I agreed that I had to report anything I suspected criminal activity to the police as part of the accreditation from the regulator and I could have been prosecuted had I not done so and criminal activity took place I didn't report. The public sector, all state employees, need the same legally binding oversight if there isn't one already.
Are you referring to the Suspicious Order and Transaction Reporting obligations? Or something else?
That’s how badly Labour is running Britain. Trump is our best hope in several ways
1. Cancelling Ed Milibandera’s net zero extremism 2. Exploding the crazily bad Chagos “deal” 3. Pressuring Labour to call an inquiry on the rape gangs
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse

How can he do that? Musk is Trump’s best mate. And probably delivered the presidency to the Donald (huzzah!!). Trump owes him. If the UK tries to close X then Musk and Trump will take revenge
The UK is being cucked into collapse. Elon is using X as a weapon against the British government.
So what you’re arguing for, effectively, is appeasement.

What's the answer then? If not Labour, not the Tories or the Lib Dems, who do we vote for to bring about change? It's not the ecoloon communists or the ragtag of Corbyn/Galloway aligned MPs. As far as I can see, as of today with Kemi in charge of the Tories the answer is probably Reform. I have a Tory membership and when Kemi gets replaced I will try and vote for the candidate most likely to bring change, yet that's really all I can do until then.
And calling Labour useless is an understatement, they are actively harmful with their economic policies. £150bn in extra borrowing over the next five years resulting in lower growth projections. They're pumping the economy full of cash but getting less out of it? That's not just useless, it's actively terrible.
£800m a year and territory given away isn't bad? Are you mental?
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse
The problem Starmer will have that any announcement will be lost in the press pack who are likely to be talking about Musk and Trump attack on him and his government
Starmer needs to grow some balls and simply shut X down. I say that as an adamant free-speecher, but it’s clearly a menace to society, and is allowing Elon Musk to attempt to suborn HMG’s democratically elected government.
If you don't believe in free speech for those who disagree with you, you don't believe in free speech.
I do believe in free speech for those who disagree with me. Of course I do.
The problem is that Twitter/X is a simply a sewer, and Trump is using it to as a weapon to foment hatred and political unrest.
Twitter/X is the “political version” crying fire in a crowded room.
Yet you were fine when Twitter was a left wing sewer cancelling everyone for even mentioning “lab leak”. For a year. Ditto Facebook

Musk and Trump and Farage need taking head on. not giving them ammunition to accuse the UK of censorship of free speech

Or call the inquiry? It's the morally correct thing to do anyway. Jeff Bezos used the Washington Post as a weapon against the US government from 2016-2020, did you call for it to be closed down by the Trump administration?
The U.S. is an abject lesson on the perils of media deregulation, and is essentially now an oligarchy.
I don’t know the specifics of the WaPo case.
However it is very clear the Twitter/X is being used as weapon against the British government.
As for the inquiry, there was one in 2022 under Suella Braverman. By all means have another one, but there ought to be a better reason that to satisfy the priapic demands of the fascist manque, Elon Musk.
For some reason the algorithm has picked up on this story - which is hardly new - and a few days later MaxPB has radicalised to the extent that he now wishes to vote for a pack of con-artists.
I am also incredibly frustrated with Labour (useless) and the Lib Dems (doubly useless), and of course I won’t vote Tories since they triggered the UK’s seemingly terminal velocity via Brexit and the Boriswave.
But Reform is obviously not the answer.

Yes that’s where I am. Reform is the only option left. The only thing we haven’t tried
I’m not optimistic they’ll succeed. However I am damn sure they will do one thing: drastically limit immigration

Are you referring to the Suspicious Order and Transaction Reporting obligations? Or something else?
Yes. I know it's specific to financial crime though.
And the obligation is not to report it to the police but to the regulator through the compliance department or the Head of Investigations, if your employer has one. As I was. I spent a long time dealing with such investigations and this regime and the regulator and a number of high profile prosecutions consequent on such reports.
There is no general legal obligation to report a suspicion or even knowledge of a crime to the police. Many banks don't even report fraud perpetrated against them to the police. And a failure to do so is not a criminal offence. There are some laws which make such a failure a criminal offence eg under the Terrorism Act.
Where people have specific duties eg police officers a failure to carry out those duties should lead to consequences. But this is very different from saying, as some have seemed to this evening, that the entire Home Office should be sent to trial because rapes happened on their watch.
This is a difficult, sensitive and important topic. It needs to be dealt with properly not in a hysterical way at the behest of shit-stirring moguls with dubious agendas and a great deal of ignorance about the realities and applicable laws here.
Please understand that I am saying this with the benefit of having done thousands of sensitive difficult investigations and so with some understanding of what is involved from a practical, legal and emotional perspective. Cool sensible heads are needed. None of this means I downplay the seriousness of what has happened nor my own personal revulsion. But judgment - not hysteria - is what's needed.

There was a hidden detail in the reporting of the queue jumping that was very, err, telling. We know he jumped the queue, but what was left out by most of the reports was that he didn't even get on the ride, only his kids did. It looks like he got the police to waive him through to the front, then watched his kids get on the ride and then went down to meet his wife again. There is precisely zero security risk for his kids to queue up alone or accompanied while he did whatever he wanted. I guarantee you that this is what happened, the kids wanted to go on the ride, they saw the lengthy queue, asked dad if he could queue jump them to the front and he used his position as PM to get them to the front of the ride.

I presume so. In the mandatory trainings I do, the criminal penalties for non-reporting are emphasised.
I’ve just recalled that Trump swore to “come after Starmer”
This is going to get worse
The problem Starmer will have that any announcement will be lost in the press pack who are likely to be talking about Musk and Trump attack on him and his government
Starmer needs to grow some balls and simply shut X down. I say that as an adamant free-speecher, but it’s clearly a menace to society, and is allowing Elon Musk to attempt to suborn HMG’s democratically elected government.
Musk and Trump and Farage need taking head on. not giving them ammunition to accuse the UK of censorship of free speech
Badenoch who receives a lot of criticism on here is directly confronting Farage and so should Starmer
Starmer is in hiding, so far as I can tell.
He’s in Madeira, so yes quite similar
If he took the advice of his security detail, I think that's ok. Whether the advice is right or wrong, he shouldn't be criticised for following it.
For some reason the algorithm has picked up on this story - which is hardly new - and a few days later MaxPB has radicalised to the extent that he now wishes to vote for a pack of con-artists.
I am also incredibly frustrated with Labour (useless) and the Lib Dems (doubly useless), and of course I won’t vote Tories since they triggered the UK’s seemingly terminal velocity via Brexit and the Boriswave.
But Reform is obviously not the answer.
Yes that’s where I am. Reform is the only option left. The only thing we haven’t tried
I’m not optimistic they’ll succeed. However I am damn sure they will do one thing: drastically limit immigration
Have you considered the Natural Law Party? Quite light on their feet as I remember.

Keir is useless, but the criticism of him is now out of control. This happened to Rishi too (who was also totally useless).
Are you referring to the Suspicious Order and Transaction Reporting obligations? Or something else?
I presume so. In the mandatory trainings I do, the criminal penalties for non-reporting are emphasised.
I know. The obligation is not to report to the police but to the regulator.

I have to do a yearly HR-mandated "Why you shouldn't throw lit matches into a pile of firelighters and paper" course. We all have our crosses to bare.

That was an inquiry done under the cover of darkness, I have precisely zero trust in the findings. We need a full public inquiry where whistleblowers, victims and investigators can give unredacted evidence live on TV. We need to see all of it, every single bit of evidence from these people needs to be aired and publicised and we also need for those who covered it up to be brought live on TV and questioned and hopefully hounded out of public life.
You say it's the algorithm that has made me say this but it isn't. Feel free to go back through my comment history, I've been saying this since the first allegations came out in 2006-2009. I was disgusted by it when I first read about them, I hoped the Tories would do something about it when they came into power in 2010, then I hoped again in 2015 when the Tories were in majority government, I was sure Boris would do something but I've been disappointed at every turn because the Tories know a full public inquiry will fling a lot of shit on them too.

That’s how badly Labour is running Britain. Trump is our best hope in several ways
1. Cancelling Ed Milibandera’s net zero extremism 2. Exploding the crazily bad Chagos “deal” 3. Pressuring Labour to call an inquiry on the rape gangs
How is 1 going to happen?
See The Times. Trump is pressing…
Pressing for what? Specifics please

Yes, the regulator, not the police. Though I do seem to remember being told that criminal proceedings could be brought if suspected criminal activity wasn't reported.
Returning to Musk, it is a co-incidence that his activities seem focused on the three countries Russia most wishes to subvert? The USA, UK, and Germany?
He has Trump - best thought of as an eminently bribable kleptocrat - already installed, and is now rooting for Reform/Tommy Robinson in the UK and AfD in Germany.
I did like it quite a bit, but Troughton's appearance makes season 6b less plausible, and I wanted him to regenerate into Jo Martin as a preliminary to totally discrediting the Timeless Child scenario

Probably yes it is a co-incidence.
I don't see how calling for an inquiry into a generation rape scandal is subverting the UK?

Being generous, I suspect Germany is partly because he has a factory there. But of course Germany's Russia connection may be relevant.

Luke should be massive favourite this year now though.
It’s a nevernever land of truly terrible governance
Also I read on TwiX that terrible frightening theory you cite. That the reason some of these young men want to come to Britain is that they know - or they’ve heard - they can rape with impunity
It’s so unutterably bleak I can’t bear to think about it
1. Trump and Musk, while being typically oafish and meddling in foreign countries’ affairs, almost certainly don’t understand the history of this or the fact Starmer’s Labour wasn’t in power at the time
2. Badenoch and large parts of the Tory tribe who are trying to milk this know exactly what the history is and the fact it happened on their watch, and are being extremely hypocritical- just as they were with Ed Davey and the post office.
If only people had listened when a woman spoke up, eh!

So it was 27% higher than the prior year and 31% lower than 2022.
Time will tell how much is annual fluctuation based on loadings into Europe and how much is policy or policing. But Rwanda appears not to be an obvious influence: numbers were up year on year in the first half of 2024 too.
1. Cancelling Ed Milibandera’s net zero extremism
2. Exploding the crazily bad Chagos “deal”
3. Pressuring Labour to call an inquiry on the rape gangs
- police officers
- Local police chiefs
- Local councillors
- social workers
- those working in care homes
- Heads of Social Services Departments
- Local MPs
- National politicians in the Home Office
- Home Office civil servants
BTW the NCA currently undertaking 50 investigations has the power to refer matters to the CPS. 2 police officers were charged last year - https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/dec/18/two-former-rotherham-police-officers-arrested-over-child-sexual-abuse.
For some reason.
Net zero was policy under the Tories
The Chagos deal isn’t crazily bad
Your mates the Tories refused a further enquiry on the rape gangs
You are so pointlessly reactionary that you may as well get a presenting slot on GBeebies.
Leon Britton was categorically and absolutely cleared and the police forced to apologise to his widow.
@Shecorns88 is muck racking about someone who can’t defend himself
I want the UK to be a safe country for my daughter to grow up in, yet over the past 3 years I haven't felt that at all and Labour will do precisely zero to improve that. So maybe a bit of law and order from Reform and locking up criminals and rapists is what we need.
Elon is using X as a weapon against the British government.
So what you’re arguing for, effectively, is appeasement.
However I have quite a deep knowledge of the rape gangs story - wrote about it many years ago, and since. And I’ve seen dozens if not hundreds of cases where people acted criminally to enable this rape. Destroying evidence. Arresting THE GIRLS. Arresting their PARENTS who complained. Silencing whistleblowers. Presenting fake data. Compiling false analyses. Criminal negligence
Put them all on trial
And that’s my last comment on this bleakest of subjects for today
Badenoch who receives a lot of criticism on here is directly confronting Farage and so should Starmer
But Reform is obviously not the answer.

Of course in one way it’s merely Trumpite bluster. But recall, he is threatening tariffs which we are desperate to avoid…
The problem is that Twitter/X is a simply a sewer, and Trump is using it to as a weapon to foment hatred and political unrest.
Twitter/X is the “political version” crying fire in a crowded room.
And calling Labour useless is an understatement, they are actively harmful with their economic policies. £150bn in extra borrowing over the next five years resulting in lower growth projections. They're pumping the economy full of cash but getting less out of it? That's not just useless, it's actively terrible.
I’m not optimistic they’ll succeed. However I am damn sure they will do one thing: drastically limit immigration
I have long been incredibly skeptical of the power of media oligarchs, and the tech bros (liberal or otherwise) are media oligarchs on steroids.

Yes, I'll fetch my coat.
There are zillions of better reasons to despise his dreary woke purse-lipped ineptitude, greed and hypocrisy
He has Trump - best thought of as an eminently bribable kleptocrat - already installed, and is now rooting for Reform/Tommy Robinson in the UK and AfD in Germany.
Probably yes it is a co-incidence.
