Of all the the specimens of misplaced self importance on here, the idea that the Russian state is going to sick a series of Olgino trolls on to this musty corner of the internet is the most risible. The chances of *insert vapid username* not being some random or even PB grown troublemaker looking for validation are minuscule.
No, it’s not self importance. I am near certain we have had actual Russian bots on here. They have certain tells and techniques. You can see them elsewhere - on other forums
And I believe @rcs1000 can sometimes identify them by the IP address or email addy
However, in this particular case the botting is so lame I dunno
Google maps is telling me about 7.5 hours from Voronezh to Moscow. Fastest route avoids road closure in E115.
If Putin commands the air (looks like he does) then the convoys will be obliterated before they get anywhere near Moscow. Wagner surely have a plan for this. Insurrection at air bases? Aircraft of their own?
Who knows ? It’s basically a battle of confidence at this point. If enough of the regular army stays loyal and fights, it’s over; if they don’t, it’s over for Putin.
Wagner’s social media game is definitely superior. It’s not impossible for it to be the first military coup where that’s decisive.
As I recall from previous discussions bombing these convoys from the air is not possible because the precision isn't good enough. That is why the traffic jam in to Kiev last year wasn't just bombed from the air.
Seems unlikely. If you have enough kit, carpeting a road isn’t hard.
superiority and the ability to discover and destroy enemy troop concentrations and supply depots får behind the frontline. Good Russian reconnaissance makes strategic, and often even tactical, surprise nearly impossible. Russia also have a clear advantage in artillery. Russian air superiority and good reconnaissance makes Ukrainian attacks very hard. Especially since there are enormous amounts of mines everywhere. The UkrAF also seems to lack good Air Defence at the frontline. Russian losses of aircrafts has been very low. When Ukrainian ground units attack they must attack through mine fields since they can't demine them in advance due to Russian fire control. Ukrainian forces can't concentrate in huge numbers since they will be discovered in advance if they do that. The Ukrainians have to rush through the minefields with limited resources and hope that their follow up reinforcements don't get to mauled by Russian air power and artillery. If the Ukrainian forces are strong enough RuAF retreat and their old positions become an artillery trap. After a while the newly captured Ukrainian position is transformed to a moon landscape and Russian forces counterattack. Mostly they succeeds in recapturing lost territory and the Ukrainians withdraw. Sometimes Ukrainian units hold on to newly captured positions and move the frontline one or two kilometers, but to a high price. During these 19 days Ukraine has fought an uphill battle, which seemed doomed from the start. The result is probably clearly higher casualties among the Ukrainians, than by the Russian side. This means that UkrAF becomes weaker in comparison to the RuAF. That's one goal not achieved. If the other goals where successful you could accept normal losses, but that's not the case. Ukrainian territorial gains, both on the Southern and Eastern fronts has been minimal and nothing indicates that will change. That in combination with high losses, especially losses on video, destroys all possibility of a propaganda victory. Now Ukraine must try to hide the failed counteroffensive by denying it's existence and downplaying the losses. Ukraine and its supporters still dominate western media so they might have some success there. But doubts will grow even in the west, that the war is winnable and worth spending huge resources on.

About as good as some incoherent drivel this morning, clearly produced by AI, claiming 20% of public sector workers did nothing and could be sacked without there being any difference to public services.
What do we do today that we didn't do in 2015 that requires 1m more people to be employed by the state? I'm not suggesting we go to 1980s level of staffing, just back to 2015.
Where on earth are we employing 1 million more people - got a link? Because in no sector that I can think of are numbers higher?
Local government fewer Nhs reliant on agency staff Schools cutting staff to cover energy and other costs? Social care needing even more agency staff..
Just going by the ONS report on public sector employment.

It's plausible that some of them are here:
Numbers spiked again from mid-2020 and there are currently around 99,000 more officials than in mid-2016. Some of this further increase will have been due to the Covid pandemic but most will now be required by Brexit. Brexit seems to have required the recruitment of approaching 100,000 officials - a great deal more than the c.60,000 employed by 'Brussels' to carry out all centralised EU functions. Assuming a cost/head of £40k to include salaries, accommodation, employers' pension contributions & NIC, etc., Brexit appears to cost approaching £4 billion pa in staff costs alone.
Damnit why have I been banned from watching RT? It would be great to turn it on and watch what is *really* happening, with Alex Salmond and George Galloway giving us the truth.
Thanks! I am watching! "WAGNER MUTINY" is their strapline.
UPDATE - they are confirming that Putin is absolutely winning, seizing all of the assets of the evil Wagner. Huzzah!
I assume it one of those situations where it is no big deal and all is in hand, yet also the West is behind it and this is a terrible outrage. Like how they talk about sending Leopard 2's being a tremndous escalation the West will rue, but also it's nothing because mighty Russian tanks eat those for breakfast.

Unfortunately the term "public sector" is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
It's easy to generalise and claim everyone paid by the State is a public sector worker but you'd then have to look at who funds what and how?
I can't speak for central Government - presuambly including the Police, NHS, Armed Forces as well as what are called "civil servants". In local Government, the numbers employed are DOWN by nearly a million since 2010. Local councils have lost a third of their pre-Coalition work force and if you want to know what happened to austerity, it didn't impact council services directly but council wage bills in terms of jobs lost.
It was the employed local Government work force who took the brunt of austerity - the Coalition couldn't or wouldn't cut Services. The modern incarnation of the Conservative Party is if anything more two-faced about local services - on the one hand it wants them run efficiently but on the other the level of Ministerial interference in the provision of those services is unprecedented.

Unwise for large language models to attempt humour. It's a very human thing.
That shoot-down sounds more worrying, if that's right, because as i understand it Voronezh is nearer Moscow than Ukraine.
Let's hope for a more peaceful transfer of power, because in a country as vast and well-armed as Russia, even with thugs like Progozhin, that would be preferable.
A transfer of power is ideal yes, but a few dead scorpions along the way isn't the worst thing in the world to undermine any potential for continued war effort afterwards.
Especially if its valuable military hardware that is destroyed, with no dead Ukrainians on either side of the conflict.
It depends, though, because the dynamics of these thing can be very hard to control once they get underway.
It could be either a very quick palace coup, or a long and bloody civil conflict. To be honest I think those two options are the most likely.
Win/win either way then.
A quick palace coup is great, get rid of Putin.
A long and bloody civil conflict is great. Russians fighting Russians is infinitely better than Russians fighting Ukrainians.
Really i think you guys are getting too excited by this. I imagine this will all be over by the end of the weekend.

Medvedev warned of a global catastrophe The betrayal of the founder of PMC "Wagner" Yevgeny Prigozhin and the coming split are the path to a universal catastrophe. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. He called for rallying around Russian President Vladimir Putin to prevent such an outcome.
The BBC reckons it has verified the convoy at a location in Lipetsk oblast. Unfortunately doesn't say where, but that would be between 50 and 150km north of Voronezh.

If true, then Putin was probably on one of those Planes escaping to his stronghold in St Petersburg. Will he be able to fight on from there?

2. Wagner Group would say this, wouldn't they?
3. Bloody hell Ken, what if it's true??
It does make some sense. If you're a young Russian male about to be thrown into the meat-paste-machine that is Ukraine, why not throw in your lot with Wagner, and hopefully avoid a real war altogether. It's a massive risk, but then so is fighting enraged Ukrainians with NATO weapons

The claims are believable based on the pace the force is making its way up the M4. They're clearly not stopping to fight Russian Army units, so either the Russian Army units are scarpering and getting the hell out of dodge, or they're joining with Wagner. Either way, it doesn't bode well for Vlad.
You couldn't get to Bristol on the M4 as fast as Wagner are travelling.
Ivan the Terrible, Catherine the Great, Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Solovyov, Olga Skabeyeva, Alexei Gudoshnikov, Aleksandr Dugin, we have beaten them all.

I would imagine most soldiers do as they are told, and if their commander suddenly told them to upsticks and join a convoy to Moscow they'd do so.
But as you note Wagner do kind of need to suggest this is happen even if (especially if) it is not - since momentum is key.
Not Momentum, but I'm sure they are upset that Putin is having some difficulties.

POVVPWAS.
If they haven't actually switched sides, they've just waved them through on their way to Moscow with an "OK guv, nothing to do with me"!
think it's something different. I think this is part of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. I bet all 6.2 billion of that Pentagon accounting error have gone directly into Prigozhin's bank account. This was the ace up their sleave, and the just played it. The timing is suspicious.

Well, if you’re relying on a bunch on mercenaries to do your dirty work, you’re also relying on no-one giving those same mercenaries a much better offer.
Machiavelli pointed out the obvious flaw with mercenaries (and their commanders) - their loyalty is rented, not owned.
He did have a fair number of examples to hand, so this was hardly rocket science.

I kinda liked him, partly because he was so confused and crap. He went from saying it was all nothing to furiously blaming the CIA for destroying Russia - in about 90 minutes

I was trying to think where he could do a runner to if that's how things play out. Couldn't think of many places that would take on the hassle. N.Korea and Iran were the two that seemed faintly plausible. I couldn't picture China taking him unless it was on the hush-hush.

Once authority start to ebb, it does so very quickly. Why fight and die for the loser ? Far safer to sit in the barracks until it’s over - or if you’re brave and ambitious, join the rebels.
When the alternative is possibly years more on the Ukraine front, where’s the incentive not to at least tacitly encourage the coup ?
The Russian Army has started building machine gun positions on the south-western entrances on the ring-road to Moscow.
It’s the expected attack direction of the Wagner Group.

Well he's from St.P. I'm not convinced they actually like him there any more than anywhere else.
The Wagner Group has announced that most of the Russian Army units in the Lipetsk region have switched sides and joined the Wagner Group military column heading toward Moscow
1. It is Visegrad, and they can be quite excitable if not outright mendacious
Again, the Petrograd garrison, 1917.
Why did they mutiny?
Because they had been told they were about to be sent to the Front.
Course. If you haven't received orders then you don't have to obey. Whether anyone is prepared to give any is the question.
The Russian Army has started building machine gun positions on the south-western entrances on the ring-road to Moscow.
It’s the expected attack direction of the Wagner Group.
Is the Battle of Moscow about to happen?
Around midnight, apparently
"The Russian insurgent forces are at Yelets, Lipetsk Oblast, and only 320km away from Moscow. If it continues like that, they might be even before midnight in Moscow.

And I believe @rcs1000 can sometimes identify them by the IP address or email addy
However, in this particular case the botting is so lame I dunno
If you have enough kit, carpeting a road isn’t hard.

Fortunately it's the weekend.
BREAKING:
Putin’s plane has left Moscow for St. Petersburg.
Looks like he is fleeing from the advancing Wagner Group military column

Maybe he has more support there.
Russia
Of course, thus rumour of him flying there could be total crap. If he has done it, then he is in deep trouble because it looks seriously weak and frit
It doesn't seem that Putin has much support, to me.

For everyone else it's £50.
Just asking for a friend....

In fact I bought her outright at one stage. I eventually got bored of her, und Isolde.
Borat told us so.
If that has indeed happened I think our bot was actually right. This will be finished by Monday.
Slava Ukraini!
They're still moving quite steadily, and definitely not being destroyed by aircraft, on any major scale, anyway.
POVVPWAS.
Quite remarkable.

STOCKPORT. Believe the hype.
You couldn't get to Bristol on the M4 as fast as Wagner are travelling.
Vladimir Putin, can you hear me? Can you hear me? I have a message for you. Old man Biden has knocked you out of Ukraine! Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
Putin managed twenty three and six.
But as you note Wagner do kind of need to suggest this is happen even if (especially if) it is not - since momentum is key.
Not Momentum, but I'm sure they are upset that Putin is having some difficulties.
He did have a fair number of examples to hand, so this was hardly rocket science.
Not sure whether that was because we were having so much fun or whether RCS was having a day off, but it's still an impressive record.
This is all quite ridiculously pleasant.

I kinda liked him, partly because he was so confused and crap. He went from saying it was all nothing to furiously blaming the CIA for destroying Russia - in about 90 minutes
THIS IS LITVINENKO'S REVENGE.
Will they find out when they arrive, that Moscow is about to be under siege, and they need to get the Hell out of there?
Doesn't sound like someone keen to continue this stupid war.

Is the march on Moscow even going to take 72 hours?

Is the St P fleet departure a red herring, and he’s actually heading to Siberia?
