You missed a trick. I've got plenty in the fridge. Dominos cold from Friday. It doesn't get more England footie than that.
We’ve got left over Chinese from Friday night,

Wish it was a cold doner kebab.
God it's ages since I've had a doner. Walking home at XXam there is nothing like it.
It’s utter bliss and if you don’t eat it all cold for breakfast. It’s divine.

So unless there has been a strange counting error, Britain is guaranteed one title at Wimbledon this year?

Mate of mine who I was watching the footie with on Wednesday, smuggled in some pizza because the table service was too slow, had a heart attack the following day.

I’m sure I know how Hitler did it. They paid someone to sit by the fire perhaps entire shift reading the newspaper. When Hans the driver or Hans the signalman, or Hans the guard fail to show on time, he put down the paper, picked up his cap and instantly filled in for Hans.

Sort of thing that happens under National Socialism, never under free market capitalism?

The serious side, neither great nor super, the economic cost of Reggie turning up 30 minutes late so often when trains don’t run on time.

No, because it isn’t true. It is however a famous putdown and deserved an airing

What he did was spend large sums of money on the main line networks, used by tourists and journalists. Then, he demanded realistic timetables. Previously the rail managers had been running timetables predicated on a running speed of around 120kph in stretches, where the realistic top speed on the railways of that time and place was around 110 kph. Moreover, no pathing allowances had been left to let them regain time. So, naturally, they were frequently late.

So he made the prestigious trains appear to be running much more reliably. Hence the myth of ‘he made the trains run on time.’

People on quiet branch lines didn’t get a look in, of course, but the Italian railway network was so chaotic that didn’t make much difference. There were numerous stations built so far from the villages they were meant to serve that they were actually further away than most inhabitants had ever travelled.
So he underpromised and overdelivered, which I thought our own dictator was getting flak currently for not doing?

That’s certainly what the FO called it when I was there five years ago.

East Jerusalem was however AIR lumped in with Israel, not as one of the OPT.

I hope England win and I don't want to be a party pooper but it's very possible - even slightly more likely than not - that Italy win tonight.

I'd rate England's chances at about 45%. This is not a done deal, and it will be a brutal match.

    Distinct lack of police there.
Hmmm. This is the sort of thing that could put the game in jeopardy.
I'm beginning to worry about the spectators being put in jeopardy, actually.
Surely this would be Cressida Dick's final f*ck up if it turns out not enough police?
On the tube and around and about in Central London today amidst the general euphoria and end of school/restrictions feeling, I thought to myself: if I was a terrorist...
And you were coming from a Green List country...
Two interesting things about the Green List of countries:

    1) Australia is on it - why would anyone go to the UK (or anywhere) from Australia when they wouldn't be able to return; and
    2) They have "Israel and Jerusalem" as a country. That is pretty woke AFAICS.
I have friends (very wealthy ones), who have traveled between Australia and the UK a couple of times during the pandemic.

It's perfectly possible to get into Australia, so long as you are (a) Australian and (b) wealthy enough to afford the most expensive quarantine hotels.
I thought there were weekly quotas on arrivals?
Yes I read (that article posted on here by someone) that they had halved it. Inflicting more misery on their citizens.

They're set by quarantine hotel capacity, which is therefore incredibly expensive.

Basically, if you're rich, no problem. But for people (particularly families) it's close to impossible.

    My family love Italy

We have had many holidays there and my daughter had her first romance in Amalfi all those years ago

In 2016 I took all my family and grandchildren to Tuscany for a couple of weeks and it was enchanting

Indeed, my granddaughter starts university in september studying the Italian language and culture

I have to say that we all want England to win, but if not we will be delighted for Italy and its wonderful people

What a pedestrian, flair free line up.

    Where as those missing out...

Ramsdale, Johnstone, Grealish, Henderson, Rashford, Mings, Coady, Sancho, Calvert-Lewin, James, Saka, Bellingham. Foden, Chilwell & White

Now that could be a very exciting team....
I think it’s worse than lack of flair. With this formation, if your wing backs get pegged back you don’t function.

I’m not a big fan of going to back five in this era believing you are more secure. If you concede a midfield presser and midfield pass option to your opponents, you will concede too much possession and territory, leaving opponents with the possession playing too close to your defensive line, ie free kicks, your passer will be pressed too quickly by their spare man, and it leaves you looking like you are playing crap and without passion out manned in midfield.

It’s the first really big mistake Southgate has made in a tournament, and it’s pretty fatal really, going back five and leaving his midfield and forwards running round like headless chickens. 🤬

I would have Henderson for Mount, overload midfield press ourselves for at least 60 mins, I would play a long ball game. We have people who intuitively know where they should be, we should use that and their pace rather than a wing back game.
It also gives the aging slow Italian defence, who don't really want to do a lot of running, only 1 speed merchant to worry about. If you had Trent Alexander- Arnold and Saka as your wing back, then that is a different kettle of fish.

Foden is a huge loss today. If they get pinned back, he is the man who has the world class ability to work through organized tight defences. Grealish potentially can, but he will also give the ball away a lot, which the Italians will then keep for 5 mins.
4 3 3 Italy? That would pin back our wing backs, and suck Mount, Sterling and Kane deep to help out in the middle?

The electronic barriers into the stadium from the concourse are serious bits of kit, you can't just jump those or easily force them, but no idea about service entrances etc under the stadium.

The thing people shouldn't even be getting that far. You don't want 1000s trying crush turnstiles.

Er. Why not just play Henderson in the Henderson role, rather than wrong pegs in wrong holes?

    Absolute nightmare fuel for me.

One of the smartest things i experienced was at Rock am Ring in Germany. Its gets 100k people so needs serious crowd control. What they did was have 4 differenet areas at different distances from the stage, all railed off, with a fairly big gap in between each with security.

If you wanted to go to a different areas, you had to go to the side, out to an open space, and then proceed forward, which was security controlled and there was a traffic light system. Red....full can't come in...yellow..very busy...green...quiet.

You couldn't get the massive wave crush occurring and if somebody did fall ill or rammed against a barrier, it was much easier for the security to get in and help.

And they monitored the numbers, so no area overfilled.

Three Brits in the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon.

So unless there has been a strange counting error, Britain is guaranteed one title at Wimbledon this year?
Yes, the fourth player is an American lady.
The Anglo-American pair (Neal Slupski and Desiree Krawczyk) win the mixed doubles, so at least one British player wins Wimbledon this year! Joe Salisbury and Harriet Dart are runners up.

Hmm. Mrs Foxy cooked pizza (pineapple free), opened the prosecco, and the only cold beer is Italian.

    Still supporting England though!

    Because football supporters are pricks.

Not just a few bad apples.

Well done Southgate with the military talk.
Hang on. I'm a football supporter. Do you mean me?

    Evening all :)

I assume the thread for discussing the Moldovan and Bulgarian elections is elsewhere.

Exit polls in from both countries - in Moldova, President Maia Sandu's Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) has won 55% of the vote which suggests a huge landslide.

The left-wing BECS has lost a third of its vote and the PDM has been annihilated.

In Bulgaria, the GERB party has won most votes but has lost ground to ITN - seat projection:

    GERB: 62 (-13)
There is Such a Nation (ITN): 59 (+8)
    Coalition for Bulgaria: 37 (-6)
    Democratic Bulgaria: 37 (+10)
    Movement for Rights & Freedom: 31 (+1)
    Others: 14

Not 100% sure how this will help the political deadlock if I'm being honest.

This warm up entertainment isn’t exactly Danny Boyle, is it.

It involved 40 people at most. A tiny skirmish. You can calm down. Plenty more nightmare fodder than that, perhaps at 90 + 3.
That's why it is so scary, barely any people, not even in a particularly enclosed space and in the blink of and eye you are having people pulled out from a stack of bodies piled three deep.

I hope saying this will surely be a low scoring match proves to be a jinx.
