    But you already posted the votes for labour and UKIP. If you know the percentages, and you know the absolute for any 1, you know the absolute figure for all others.

    But you already posted the votes for labour and UKIP. If you know the percentages, and you know the absolute for any 1, you know the absolute figure for all others.
    eh, then there is rounding and it won't be super precise. My OCD wouldn't abide that!

    At first glance the Dunderland result suggests the UKIP effect could be to depress slightly the Labour percentage in their heartlands - does not bode well for their Euro performsnce.

    Especially since any split-ticket effect is unlikely to be tilted towards Labour in the Euros compared with the locals, in fact the reverse.

    UKIP surely. They are the NOTA/DNV party so higher turnout in the Euros would mean they have done well.

But, he says, "so toxic is the name Nick Clegg thought to be that in spite of a few of us looking for candidates describing themselves as this on ballot papers nationally, we have been unable to find a single one".

    I think that just about every Scot who was in a polling booth voting today and saw "Scottish Conservatives – No to independence" will be very clear on the message it intended to convey despite your smeary spin attempts in that post!

    Sunderland is my home town and the UKIP scores are very high - in mostly very safe Labour wards - if this is reflected elsewhere it is not great news for Labour.

    Looks like UKIP are going from nothing to about 25-30% in Sunderland. You'd expect them to do a bit better in the Euro elections, with some people voting Lab in the locals and UKIP in the Euros.

    PB will remember the election then, but it will be old news for most people - lots will simply wonder why its front page and believe they heard it earlier, not knowing the count was delayed.

    This news coming at the same time as the Tories are solidly beaten by UKIP in the Euro will surely force Cameron to act. People in wealthy metropolitan circles think of immigration as this difficult issue that flares up now and again, but they forget about it when the newspapers aren't running with it for a while. But as long as half a million people turn up in this country every year, it's going to continue to drive people's politics. Most people in this country actually quite like British culture, and they can tell it's getting diluted year on year. Any Conservative party that doesn't get a grip on this will just do poorer and poorer.

    Well UKIP did win the most votes in Hull in the 2009 Euro elections so not a huge surprise.

    Indeed - and a good example of why Twitter is only a useful source of information if those posting are reliable and know what they're talking about.

    Of course, they might mean UKIP has finished first in Hull, or is on track to win most seats in this round. Or maybe it's just a rumour with no great foundation.

    I'm going to be at one of the Northern Ireland council counts tomorrow morning. I don't know how many on here have experience of a STV count but it can be quite exciting as candidates are eliminated and transfers and vote management makes the difference in deciding the latter seats. Last time the final council seat in my area was decided by a half vote surplus.

    That's a real shame. I sat next to McCallister at dinner a couple off years back and really liked what he was trying to do
