Wait, Hillary has changed her story ?

I though her campaign said it was overheating.

They are doing their best to reduce their credibility to zero.
It's clearly a way to excuse her going AWOL for another few days.

In isolation it is possibly a credible explanation but when you look at the hundreds of other incidents it doesn't look so credible.

Impressive recovery. When my 66 year old mother was diagnosed with pneumonia she was in intensive care for 3 weeks and on oxygen for 2 of those.

Her cough does tie in with a pneumonia diagnosis however.

    1. Hillary had coughs because of allergies.
    2. Nope she was having coughs because of Pneumonia.
    3. She collapsed of overheating.

It's amazing how the story line changes.

On Friday night when she was diagnosed with Pneumonia she did her Basket of Deplorables speech.

Can Hillary's campaign decide which disease or condition she is suffering from ?

What are the Clinton team going to do about the debates? Dose her up with adrenaline beforehand? Insist on a sit-down format? Find an excuse to cancel altogether? If she takes a tumble like that on live TV with undecided voters watching keenly, surely she's toast.

There's a snowball's chance in Hell that Trump is going to make any accommodations for Hillary in the debates.

Given the chance, he'll have them turn up the heating in the hall and have techno music blasting out during the commercial breaks.
I seem to recall some gubernatorial debate where there was a row about one of the candidates using a fan, and the other one refusing to come out as it was against the rules.

Yes, I remember that one. Also one about the height of the podium, whether a short candidate should be allowed a box to stand on etc. A lot of these debates get very petty, as each side know it's the biggest audience of the whole campaign.

In education, Moore's approach is a red herring. It is not that 'everyone has their merits' but that everyone should have an education that helps them realize their full potential.

I am not sure even what his question might mean in other contexts. Does he suggest that we have to accept incompetents in office so as not to be unfair to them? Meritocracy need not mean unfairness, as he seems to suggest.
He does have a favourable paragraph on Prescott but his basic premise is most of us are not exceptionally talented and will never reach the top, hence why he also likes the monarchy as it is not based on merit and is therefore more humble

She could probably lose by 1% and still win the electoral college, especially if Trump does better in traditionally Democratic States but not well enough to win. Given his focus on the rust bucket states and the White blue collared vote this strikes me as quite plausible.
Indeed but Speedy is right that such a scenario would lead to very bitter Trump voters

If Hillary wins by less than 1% I think the election might come down to recounts, and civil war.

A disputed close victory for one of the most unpopular persons to ever run for president will definitely risk a civil war.
We are headed that way and of course Johnson or Stein could play as big a role as Nader in 2000 in a very close race.
In that case the Foreign Office should draw contingency plans for civil war in America.

First and foremost which side would Britain take if it should take a side, and what would it gain in exchange.
Unlikely though a favourable trade deal post Brexit is a must
What about New England in exchange ? (jokingly)
Or Hawaii ? (Their state flag is British enough already)
New York and we have the two best cities in the world!
Yes, but on the down side, we'll also have New York...
Well it could be worse, we could get Detroit!

Does seem like one of those times where they've decided to change story, and knowing that's always awkward, just to go quick and hard with the change and attempt to move on. Presumably so many dislike Trump plenty will be happy to move on even with a lame explanation (it's not like lukewarm Trump supporters haven't shown the same tendency)

The Betfair market for 'Next President' will be settled on the result of the election in November, not the inauguration in January.

Given that nominations have closed and ballot papers printed in most states, and early voting starts as early as next week, how can someone not on the ballot paper actually win the election? Even if Clinton pulls out in favour of Kaine, that will be something done by the delegates at the Electoral College, not by the election itself, which will still be for Hillary Clinton.

The Clintons got the whole party, except Sen. Sanders, to stand aside for her - if they've been hiding something from the whole party then it will be mayhem.*

*I meant mayhem within the party, but if Trump wins and the GOP hold the Senate, appoint SC judges etc, it will be like the sensible Labour people here who hate what the Tories are doing but are powerless to actually do anything about it.
Biden did not get into the race because his son was dying. Once his son died, it was already somewhat late for him to join in, and he was in any case undecided whether he personally was ready for the brutality of a campaign, given the crushing loss of his son. By the time it was evident that Hillary was in trouble, it really was too late.

I am not a huge Biden fan, but I have huge respect for the relationship he had with his kids in the aftermath of his wife's death, and so respect that he had to grieve properly for Beau.
Biden has been quoted as saying he regrets not running, but he made the decision in the immediate aftermath of Beau's death, and for valid family reasons. I have a massive amount of time for Biden, as a very decent man - he is far preferable for many Dems to what is on offer now.
  • Hilary Clinton's doctor announces she was diagnosed with pneumonia last friday. So why after today's episode did she come out and say she was fine rather than admit to her diagnosis

It is unthinkable that a diagnoses of pneumonia in a women of Hilary’s age would not have required either a long spell in bed or hospitalisation. I find this latest pretext for HRC’s collapse does not stand up IMHO.

It's perfectly plausible that a candidate two months out from a presidential election would work through pneumonia rather than take an election losing two to three weeks off. It's also perfectly plausible that this would be such a silly thing to do medically that she ended up collapsing. Of course being plausible doesn't make it true. Pneumonia is also consistent with the video. She was too stiff to be unconcious but clearly couldn't stand unaided.

There are quite a few different causes of pneumonia - not just bacterial - and if my mother's case is anything to go by its difficult to diagnose the cause. They'll pump you full of antibiotics to see if that helps but they won't know in advance if it will.

BF punters need to be careful. I may not understand this correctly but this is the ruling:

"This market will be settled according to the candidate that has the most projected Electoral College votes won at the 2016 presidential election. Any subsequent events such as a ‘faithless elector’ will have no effect on the settlement of this market. In the event that no Presidential candidate receives a majority of the projected Electoral College votes, this market will be settled on the person chosen as President in accordance with the procedures set out by the Twelfth Amendment to the United States Constitution."

Not sure what this exactly means, but HRC withdraws due to health and then Kaine is winner, but the person on ballot with most college votes will be HRC.
That's my reading of it too.

The only plausible exception would be if she passed away without withdrawing before the election, in which case I think they'd probably void the market.

Pneumonia is offered as the explanation, but the temptation to cover up Clinton's true health is there, given the desire to defeat Trump. Plenty of people will speculate what caused the collapse, and some doctors (punters & governments) will be wondering if the brief footage indicates something very different.

US presidents have a long history of being very economical with the truth on health matters. But openness isn't common elsewhere.

Thanks for that, I had forgotten about his recent bereavement, as thinking about what Clinton or her agents might have said or done to make him pull out, whereas actually the more I read on Biden, the more I believe that it was a genuine family-based decision.

Now then, lets not be too hasty.

Let's be clear, there is a clear process in what happens if Trump withdraws, the RNC meets to replace him.

Has anyone checked the rules of the DNC and of each individual state for Hillary ?

"The Democratic National Committee shall have general responsibility for the affairs of the Democratic Party between National Conventions, subject to the provisions of this Charter and to the resolutions or other actions of the National Convention. This responsibility shall include...filling vacancies in the nominations for the office of President and Vice President." Article 3 DNC charter

Biden has been quoted as saying he regrets not running, but he made the decision in the immediate aftermath of Beau's death, and for valid family reasons. I have a massive amount of time for Biden, as a very decent man - he is far preferable for many Dems to what is on offer now.

I've posted this before but it's worth posting again, and worth watching if you haven't seen it.

Biden making a speech at a Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors event. TAPS is an organisation that supports the families of US armed forces members who have died.

I wish I could vote for Biden here.
I have seen it, but thanks for posting it - very powerful. When I hear Biden speak, I get more of a sense of humanity and decency than I've seen in any politician for a long time.

Moore makes a good point. It is legitimate for us to demand that everybody be law-abiding, hard-working and not make noise after 11pm, but it is demanding too much for everybody to be clever and useful as well.

    Mediaphobia?
