politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » The indyref results thread – As YouGov have a poll out
The YouGov poll isn’t an exit poll, but I post it here for the sake of completeness. 2,000 Scots were contacted by YouGov after they had been to the polling stations.
Hmph. This feels like it's shaping up to be one big anti-climax. (Not even ashamed at the fact I was hoping for a great night's entertainment even over the future of the nation.)
If Darling and Alexander hadn't made such a hash of the No campaign, there wouldn't have been any need for intervention.
Labour campaigning failure - go on, admit it!
True, but I'm quite glad as stuffing gold in their mouths (copyright Nye Bevan) with the last minute devomax offer has given Mr Farage an enormous stick to beat both Tories and Labour with.

I wait with interest to see what Cameron is going to apparently say tomorrow re the new British political settlement if no wins....
..if it doesn't mention any kind of English settlement Farage will literally be grinning ear to ear.
So Gord's job is done, can we "excommunicate" him so to speak and make him Governor of something we still have in the Empire that's at least 8000 miles away?
Yes let's not be churlish. I loathe the man with a passion and believe he was utterly destructive 1997-2010 but, let's be honest he gave a fantastic speech yesterday and it could only be a plus for No. He clearly connects with Scotland in a way that eludes middle England ( and me) totally. But fair do's credit where it's due.
Ebenwolfe @Ebenwolfe 1m I thought the referendum vote would be an end but Jeremy Vine just demonstrated that Scotland issues are like Herpes & never clear up.
According to the Guardian, those "Yes ratings" were compiled by Credit Suisse. The figure of 2 for the Western Isles is very low. Paddy Power are quoting that region as the 4th (5th?) most likely to return the biggest % for Yes. (Which they won't. My local info is that No will win there, but I won't be surprised if Yes do better there than in several other regions.)
As an aside, someone the other night mentioned Facebook and voting. I couldn't answer at the time as I was out enjoying myself (and was hoping Mrs J wouldn't notice me sneakily reading PB), but there was a study done into Facebook's effect on the 2012 presidential election:
Congratulations to the Scots on caring about their country to the extent that just about all of them turned up to vote. And let's hope the experience of 16 and 17 year olds voting without the sky falling in helps speed up the lowering of the voting age generally.

If you are SeanT, do NOT read this post.
I was on a jury last year and the foreman read out the wrong guilty/not guilty verdicts for defendants.
I actually wept when I saw that last night. And this from someone whose first post on PB.com was to slag the man off mercilessly. If the result is No then I'm prepared to forget about the gold sell-off thing.

(Hopefully) Good night all.
Have some of that, Chinless.
YouGov's Peter Kellner says "I can't see No losing this now. At the risk of looking a complete prat it's a 99% certainty."
Labour campaigning failure - go on, admit it!
He's probably making bets on YES even as we write.
Hope you all made plenty of cash through McARSE .... so to the future and remember ....
Ed Miliband Will Never be Prime Minister

YES - 23%

Made me laugh.
The outcome of a NO is that Cameron has allowed a referendum - and won. He's the great democrat. EU next.
And, the Barnett formula and EV4EL have to be dealt with and changed, even with a Tory minority government.
An absolute master class in tactics.
Just endless general waffle.
The row will start before breakfast tommorrow.
In 2009 he saved the world. Now the United Kingdom.

Blimey, I'm feeling quite emotional.
Labour HOLD.
Promising a load of power to Scots like himself at the expense of the English who booted him out of office
YouGov bases its prediction on the responses of 1,828 people after they voted today, together with those of 800 people who had already voted by post."
Haven't they over-sampled postal voters?
He saved the Pound from the Euro. He saved the Union from breaking up.
Furthermore, there is some breaking news that is great for YES - Dan Hodges has just called it for NO.
Ooops sorry no change there then!
So this will bring it back roughly into line.
Also note that it will rely on everyone still being on the register at end of 2015.
