Well spotted Eagles, I was thinking just the same thing in relation to the up coming Newark by-election.... Also think it looks terrible for Helmer to be elected as an UKIP MEP tonight, and then for him to be back off campaigning to be an MP in another Parliament the next day.
Marine le Pen is a very different politician to her (undoubtedly unsavoury) father. She could be the Gerry Adams/Alex Salmond that leads a reprehensible and downright nasty party into respectable government.
We have seen the same process dozens of times, elsewhere.
Marine is the acceptable face of a deeply unacceptable party.
Sinn Fein used to be the electoral wing of the IRA, and SF leaders ordered the torture of execution of single mothers given to comforting dying British soldiers.
Sinn Fein are now an established party of NI government.
I see no reason why the mildly quasi-fascist party of the FN could not evolve into a relatively sensible party of French elite politics. This surely is the unique gift of democracy: it absorbs and tames the wild and violent radicals.
Sinn Fein are still deeply loathed by many on both sides of the Border. They don't pick up transfer votes from other parties.

Looking at the front pages, there's a danger for Farage, that UKIP get lumped in with Front national.
I don't think this is a problem for UKIP, as it would be for other parties, because they want to scrap the European parliament. No one has an issue with Gerry Adams being a member of Westminster and Northern Ireland assembly.
I've met Graham Watson a few times, liked him. Seemed a very decent bloke fwiw.
I'm sure he was a nice bloke in the pub and was kind to small pets. Got more time to spend with them now.
*shrugs* There's a lot of old wisdom about judging people by how they treat people who can do nothing for them (which is a category interns and stewards generally fall into).
All Scottish councils - with the exception of the Western Isles - have declared their results. As mentioned previously, the Western Isles will declare on Monday afternoon because they don't count votes on a Sunday.

SF largest party on the new expanded Belfast City Council: 19 out of 60 seats, DUP 2nd place with 13.
After a devastation like this for the Lib Dems, showing how the 2009 election has basically no bearing on 2014 results, how on Earth do they get included in the debates ahead of UKIP based on what happened five years prior? It's a laughable position. Clearly everything has changed since 09/10 and the electoral commission must regulate these things based on current performance. UKIP have got a bigger vote in the locals, a bigger vote in the Euros and are polling for a bigger result in the general election. They are just obviously and clearly the third largest party in the country.
Peter Kellner Government up, opposition down relative to 2009, should terrify Labour!
Yes and what utter claptrap. At that point the Labour government had been in office for 12 years. This government has been in office for 4 years. A silly comparison especially from such an experienced psephologist.
The south east is bigger than London and will surely have a large tory lead over Labour. It seems very likely that Labour will win but between the two but it is embarrassingly close.
Its not good news for the SNP who ran on a campaign ticket of keeping UKIP out of Scotland. And with the Conservative vote holding up well in Scotland, those votes that delivered a UKIP MEP up here didn't come from us....
Twitter yescotland @yescotland 51s Apparently SNP now have the same number of MEPs as Scotland has pandas. #voteno
I alert you that Tower Hamlets have not finished counting the local elections from Thursday...so I am not sure if they will ever finish counting the Euro ballots...

Looks like Labour might just edge it in terms of votes with London and Scotland to come, but not much of a lead to take into the general election in 11 months' time.
But they don't want people enthusiastic about the way it is currently run to be in it, they want skeptics who will intentionally or otherwise be able to force change, as despite token suggestions the LDs would never be able to argue for serious change. Granted, Tories and Labour could not achieve any serious change either, but they could at least ask for it, and that's about all they can hope for I think.

Yes, they really are a basketcase in every respect.

your old friend Sion Simon is re elected.
UKIP 3
Lab 2
Con 2
Labour close to bang on the swing they need (to catch the tories...)
Almost everything in except London - Lab must beat Con on votes.
Now, I'm off to bed, will the Lib Dems have at least 1 MEP? Will Lab beat the Tories?

If Lab gets one more seat in London than Con then they tie on seats.
Can Lab get 2 more than Con? Don't Know!
Am I dreaming?
Result should "TERRIFY LABOUR"

What is your current projection for Con/Lab//LD seats at the next GE?

Wet dream time?
As a Lib Dem on here said last year about my forecast.
"just 1 MEP is a wet dream of yours ." Name hidden to save embarrassment.
So off to bed, £700 richer from a different two year old bet on UKIP.
PS I will probably now have that betting account closed and forced elsewhere.
Wrong - they are innumerate - can't do primary school maths - hopeless.
