That's the point that MoonRabbit's been making: Rishi told those lies and refused to back down - so now senior Tories are stuck having to repeat them too if they don't want the story to suddenly become one of "Tory splits".

And it's going to get worse and worse for them every time the lies are repeated.

They really should have climbed down yesterday while it was still just about possible to do so, and relied on the £2000 figure sticking in people's minds.

Namecheck for our very own @RochdalePioneers on Sophy Ridge tonight - because they are covering the “mess” in the Aberdeenshire seat

What’s the betting for the seat? I’ve just had a quick glance and it looks a certain SNP gain.

As Duguid the outgoing MP would be a constituent, I wonder if rival candidate should visit with a get well soon card and gift? If news of that got in the local press, it would lift their profile and come across as decent and human and neighbourly?
We're all wishing him well. He's a thoroughly decent human being. Not a voter though, boundary changes means he lives in Gordon and Buchan
It’s not that I’m trying to help by passing you tips. Heaven forbid - with that “doomster survivalist” profile picture you’re going to spend entire canvassing going round frightening sheep and livestock.

However, what I would do is ensure every photo in publicity material like leaflets, was me in a group of smiling residents, kids, dogs. And I would bang on just 2 issues - getting value for money for all the taxes the constituents will pay, and tackling crime for safe streets in the community.

And it doesn’t matter at all which party you are standing for or what level election is for, just bang on about fighting for VFM from taxes and Law and order and safe crime free community.

We’ve raised $48M, built a world-class team of scientists and engineers, and achieved electrical activity in previously cryopreserved neural tissue.

Tory MP texts tonight in total disgust about PM leaving the D Day commemorations early. Said when they saw the picture of Cameron with the other world leaders at the ceremony, they initially thought the BBC had chosen the wrong picture.

It’s such an epic screwup it’s hard to imagine anything worse he could do other than doing the next PEB as him rapping the entire contents of the manifesto whilst wearing a backwards baseball cap.

“Not sure heading home early back was best idea for PM” is not even a proper sentence in English.
It would still just be so DELICIOUS if SKS lost the election. Might even be worth Sunak winning it to see the wailing and gnashing of teeth. All that talking to world leaders with a serious furrowed brow. All those conferences. The harrowing of the Corbynites. Every single right thinking world leader and power broker willing it to happen. Perhaps the Faragegasm will sweep all before it.

I am trying to think of any French war since WW2 that involved air combat. There was bombing in Indochina and Algeria, but I think neither opponent fielded air forces.

No, bzzzzt, wrong: Labour will raise your taxes by far far more.

The reason this triggers is due to pure cognitive dissonance, everyone knows its true but many don't care because they'd pay good money (their money) to see the Tories out.

The Sunak Debate Bounce appears to be a Reverse Bounce.

    Hmm.

It’s the problems Sunak set up for the rest of the campaign with his lies to answer every question, that will prove the enduring take out.

No matter how batshit Penny knows these answers are, she must take the stage tomorrow and tell the voters boat crossings are down, waiting lists are down, pensioners have never paid tax, Rwanda will be a fabulous deterrent, the 2K Lie wasn’t made up by SPADs in an echo chamber the treasury really did do most of it. Etc etc.

After the lead on answers Sunak has firmly set, all opponents are ready and waiting now to debate Tories, wherever, whenever, and as often as they can. 🫣
You called the debate non-bounce right it seems. Kudos. I expected the opposite.

No-one gives a fuck if the £2,000 tax claim is "shameful".

We all know Labour will raise your taxes after the election, and we haven't a clue how much.

This is if anything an understatement.
Sure, and the effect of the Tory tax changes already announced will be £3,500 if calculated on the same basis.

But Rishi told lies about the source of the figures and the nature of the Treasury's involvement. He's backed the Tories into a corner, and his ministers are now left with no choice but to keep repeating it.
No, bzzzzt, wrong: Labour will raise your taxes by far far more.

The reason this triggers is due to pure cognitive dissonance, everyone knows its true but many don't care because they'd pay good money (their money) to see the Tories out.

But, boy oh boy, will you pay.
Yes because even the Spectator has found £3000 of Tory tax increases that aren't being talked about...

I went to do some superficial reading about the Mirage 2000-5 on wikipedia and saw this fun little snippet, that I thought others would appreciate.

"On 9 March, 2024, two French Mirage 2000-5Fs participated in the downing of two Houthi drones over the Red Sea in support of Operation Prosperity Guardian marking the first French aerial victories since World War II."

I am trying to think of any French war since WW2 that involved air combat. There was bombing in Indochina and Algeria, but I think neither opponent fielded air forces.

The French did destroy some Egyptian bombers in 1956, but on the ground - though against defended airfields it wouldn't have been fun. Can't find any mention of air to air on a quick check, though.

And leading to a Labour majority of 326, according to Electoral Calculus
But, smart cookies will note the right wing vote sums to 38% there.

The political divide hasn't gone away. It's stayed at home or split.

Labour very very easily lose their majority next time.
I would look at those figures in more detail if I was you - the Reform / UKIP / Brexit vote is very much Reform not Tory voters - you can see that going all the way back to 2015.

Where the Tory party gets votes is from the centre ground and those votes are what is destroying Rishi and co at the moment. They may come back to the Tory party in 2028 - but not if the Tories select a right wing leader...

Yes heaven forfend they elect an unelectable rightwinger like Margaret Thatcher.

What fools they were picking her to replace Heath in 1975. No wonder Callaghan was re elected by a landslide in 1979...oh wait.

In today's volatile economic circumstances nothing is certain
True, but History repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce. You do need a leader who can radically change the direction of the Tory Party. However, if you do not chose a conservative, you will fail. Integrity and leadership is in extremely short supply on the Tory benches at the moment.

At the start of operation Musketeer in 1956, there were some limited fighter engagements with French F4U Corsairs and Fleet Air Arm Wyverns in operation while the Egyptian airstrips were being bombed.

OTOH you could take the attitude that they're beaten anyway and might as well just go for broke and repeat the same total lie on an endless loop, in the hope that the number sticks and low attention voters are frightened by it. It's essentially the Vote Leave bus Mk.2.
But that's just another iteration of the funk the Conservatives have got themselves into.

Everything they do is strange, uncomprehending cosplay of Conservative happy places. Recycled facade of Thatcherism, without any of the wiring or moral basis that made it work. Reheated attack lines from 2016 and 2019.

Things that were associated with success then, but which aren't working now. But like followers of a cargo cult, there's no resource to come up with anything better.

I agree with your post. 🥰 Except the bit about Tories ever had the chance to avoid this mess, once Rishi had firmly lead with it.

And it’s not just the 2K Lie - every Conservative has to hold the line on boat crossings are down, waiting lists are down, pensioners have never paid tax, Rwanda will be a fabulous deterrent, over and over till election day, as these answers are now the actual spine of the Conservative campaign. 🫣

And with the 2K Lie, the fact the Civil Service immediately called Rishi a liar is the take out from it this week, but far more damaging in long run is those 12yr old SPADs whose never had to work for a living in their lives who created this, only got it to up to 2K figure by only working families paying for it, totally ignoring the rest of the tax system and how it works to fund Tory pledges. The spectator piece leapt on this part of the madness straightaway, because the daftness of saying that was visible from space. It’s dragged in “how much do all these Tory pledge's cost in the fantasy world just a subset of tax payers pay them”.

Sure there is lies and spin at elections, and the best of campaigns work and are legendary, but it has to be more sophisticated and subtle than something that instantly falls apart, into this “properly taking voters as mugs with your never ending lies” narrative in just 24hrs!

If Cummings clever £350M “gross on a bus” is Grad A version how to do it, this was more like D minus.
