Of course, "despising" Putin is more fashionable these days than it used to be:
I dislike Putin, generally. He kills his enemies. But then, so does the POTUS, with drones (and so does Boris). And sometimes your wiser enemies, or rivals, see you better then you see yourself. Putin nails this here. Wokeness is Bolshevism, right down to the determined destruction of the family unit
Putin is a fascinating character, worthy of respect, along with due wariness and preparedness. He is certainly not some mad aggressive autocrat, he is not Hitler. He actually thinks -- Some Cnut, 21021
That’s me isn’t it!
*proud*
That’s pretty much bang on. Putin is not mad, he is not Hitler, he thinks. He is also our enemy, he is not someone to be liked, we must be wary and prepared for his aggression. He kills his enemies (as do we). And he’s right about Wokeness, it weakens us, indeed he USES it to weaken us

"France to transfer Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine, Macron announces.
Speaking after the end of the 80th anniversary of D-Day commemorations in Normandy, the French President Emmanuel Macron said his country would train Ukrainian pilots."
I went to do some superficial reading about the Mirage 2000-5 on wikipedia and saw this fun little snippet, that I thought others would appreciate.
"On 9 March, 2024, two French Mirage 2000-5Fs participated in the downing of two Houthi drones over the Red Sea in support of Operation Prosperity Guardian marking the first French aerial victories since World War II."
A German teachers’ union has warned against lowering the voting age to 16 for national elections, shortly after polling data showed that the youth in the country are shifting to the Right.
It was good seeing SKS and Macron hugging and chatting like old friends today. It made you dare hope......
It's a gay thing.
If you're writing this fanfic, I'll read it.
"ChatGPT vX, please take this image of Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron and generate a five-minute video of them wrestling naked in front of a fireplace with pronounced sweat and chiaroscuro, in the manner of the film "Women In Love" (1969)"
Really scared now that someone will train a large language model on PB….
It was tried, the Schizophrenic result fell apart...

Clearly true AI is still quite done way off.
True AI is a very long way off - the hallucinations need to be fixed first...

Mark Harper doubles down
Fiona Bruce reads out the letter
Mark Harper triples down on it
Shabana Mahmood jumps in and calls him out
Look at Mark Harpers face - he knows he's telling lies and yet he carries on, Shameful
That's the point that MoonRabbit's been making: Rishi told those lies and refused to back down - so now senior Tories are stuck having to repeat them too if they don't want the story to suddenly become one of "Tory splits".
And it's going to get worse and worse for them every time the lies are repeated.
They really should have climbed down yesterday while it was still just about possible to do so, and relied on the £2000 figure sticking in people's minds.

Prime Ministerial
Looks morbe like zelensky saying "if you dont support us I am going to wring your scrawny neck" to me but then I only spent a few years making a living out of reading body language so what do I know
Starmer looks as if he is cradling a small mouse against the wind. Which is thoughtful of him.
Namecheck for our very own @RochdalePioneers on Sophy Ridge tonight - because they are covering the “mess” in the Aberdeenshire seat
What’s the betting for the seat? I’ve just had a quick glance and it looks a certain SNP gain.
As Duguid the outgoing MP would be a constituent, I wonder if rival candidate should visit with a get well soon card and gift? If news of that got in the local press, it would lift their profile and come across as decent and human and neighbourly?
We're all wishing him well. He's a thoroughly decent human being. Not a voter though, boundary changes means he lives in Gordon and Buchan
It’s not that I’m trying to help by passing you tips. Heaven forbid - with that “doomster survivalist” profile picture you’re going to spend entire canvassing going round frightening sheep and livestock.
However, what I would do is ensure every photo in publicity material like leaflets, was me in a group of smiling residents, kids, dogs. And I would bang on just 2 issues - getting value for money for all the taxes the constituents will pay, and tackling crime for safe streets in the community.
And it doesn’t matter at all which party you are standing for or what level election is for, just bang on about fighting for VFM from taxes and Law and order and safe crime free community.
There's no fundamental science that says this can't work. But the engineering solutions will probably take too long for those as old as Leon and me.

Setting aside politics for today, this 80th anniversary of D-Day has for me been a sombre day of reflection.
My wife works in a care home and at the 75th anniversary of VE Day there were WWII veterans there retelling their stories about the war. Today there is not, they've all passed away and the only people there today who remember the war now were children at the time.
My grandad was 15 when the war ended so was in school during the war and would tell us very few stories about it, more about his national service which followed after the war in Malaysia. He passed away earlier this year, age 94.
Its strange to think that when I was a child in the 80s and 90s we still had some WWI veterans attending memorials. Today the WWII veterans and even the people who remember WWII as children at the time are passing away.
I find it quite sombre, especially with this being the first memorial my grandad isn't around for, but it makes it all the more important that we keep the memories and understanding alive. At times of memorials we tend to say "lest we forget" - but it is starting to be forgotten and fading into history which is a concern.
Thank you to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice 80 years ago so we can be free. We must never forget them, nor what they fought for and why.
Tory MP texts tonight in total disgust about PM leaving the D Day commemorations early. Said when they saw the picture of Cameron with the other world leaders at the ceremony, they initially thought the BBC had chosen the wrong picture.
It’s such an epic screwup it’s hard to imagine anything worse he could do other than doing the next PEB as him rapping the entire contents of the manifesto whilst wearing a backwards baseball cap.
And remember that's the Sun's chief political reporter - emphasising that Rishi went home as SKS talked with Volodymyr Zelenskyy
“Not sure heading home early back was best idea for PM” is not even a proper sentence in English.
It would still just be so DELICIOUS if SKS lost the election. Might even be worth Sunak winning it to see the wailing and gnashing of teeth. All that talking to world leaders with a serious furrowed brow. All those conferences. The harrowing of the Corbynites. Every single right thinking world leader and power broker willing it to happen. Perhaps the Faragegasm will sweep all before it.

I am trying to think of any French war since WW2 that involved air combat. There was bombing in Indochina and Algeria, but I think neither opponent fielded air forces.

Sure, and the effect of the Tory tax changes already announced will be £3,500 if calculated on the same basis.
But Rishi told lies about the source of the figures and the nature of the Treasury's involvement. He's backed the Tories into a corner, and his ministers are now left with no choice but to keep repeating it.

The reason this triggers is due to pure cognitive dissonance, everyone knows its true but many don't care because they'd pay good money (their money) to see the Tories out.
The Sunak Debate Bounce appears to be a Reverse Bounce.
Hmm.
It’s the problems Sunak set up for the rest of the campaign with his lies to answer every question, that will prove the enduring take out.
No matter how batshit Penny knows these answers are, she must take the stage tomorrow and tell the voters boat crossings are down, waiting lists are down, pensioners have never paid tax, Rwanda will be a fabulous deterrent, the 2K Lie wasn’t made up by SPADs in an echo chamber the treasury really did do most of it. Etc etc.
After the lead on answers Sunak has firmly set, all opponents are ready and waiting now to debate Tories, wherever, whenever, and as often as they can. 🫣
You called the debate non-bounce right it seems. Kudos. I expected the opposite.

The French did destroy some Egyptian bombers in 1956, but on the ground - though against defended airfields it wouldn't have been fun. Can't find any mention of air to air on a quick check, though.
And leading to a Labour majority of 326, according to Electoral Calculus
But, smart cookies will note the right wing vote sums to 38% there.
The political divide hasn't gone away. It's stayed at home or split.
Labour very very easily lose their majority next time.
I would look at those figures in more detail if I was you - the Reform / UKIP / Brexit vote is very much Reform not Tory voters - you can see that going all the way back to 2015.
Where the Tory party gets votes is from the centre ground and those votes are what is destroying Rishi and co at the moment. They may come back to the Tory party in 2028 - but not if the Tories select a right wing leader...
Yes heaven forfend they elect an unelectable rightwinger like Margaret Thatcher.
What fools they were picking her to replace Heath in 1975. No wonder Callaghan was re elected by a landslide in 1979...oh wait.
In today's volatile economic circumstances nothing is certain
True, but History repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce. You do need a leader who can radically change the direction of the Tory Party. However, if you do not chose a conservative, you will fail. Integrity and leadership is in extremely short supply on the Tory benches at the moment.

Has it ever occurred to you that some of us will be happy to pay more taxes in order to start reversing the asset stripping that the Tories and their grifting donors have inflicted on us for the last 14 years?
What was the biggest ever majority by any party to have been lost at the subsequent General Election?
I think I know the answer
It depends. Technically the transition from the wartime coalition to the Conservative caretaker government but otherwise Labour in 1950. I imagine the latter is what you were alluding to.
Sensational win for the USA cricket team. Disaster for Ladbrokes.
Reviewing the line-up it largely looks like Pakistan diaspora v. Pakistan to me.
Once upon a time I used to play for a pub cricket team that went each year to play a game in some foreign field - Cuba, Italy, Vietnam, any non-cricketing country that would have us. It was huge fun, but rather disappointingly the opposition invariably consisted of the India/Pakistan diaspora.
Isn't the calm and dispassionate tone of discussion on PB refreshing compared with comments on the Scotsman, MailOnline, and (when it comes to Thames Water) Carp Fishers' Monthly?

So we know Richi loses the general election. But when Richi resigns as an MP, what happens in Richi's seat? Is there a chance the Conservatives then lose Richimond and Northallerton, after he leave to enrichi himself in California?
So we know Labour raise tax by at least £2,000 a head after the general election. But when Labour raise tax by £2,000 a head, what happens to ordinary people? Is there a chance they go off Labour when they realise SKS has been lying and raises tax by £2,000 a head, after he's safely ensconced as PM and can raise his own tax by £2,000 a head whenever he wants to because what Labour does and loves is raising tax wherever possible and by multiple £2,000s a head, if it can, be it in Cambridgeshire, Cornwall or Carmarthenshire?

I'm not I'm saying that no matter what taxes are going to have to go up.
But the Tories have been so dishonest that it's impossible to have a rational conversation about them so you may as well ignore the issue.
BTW Hunt tried to pressurise Labour into saying no changes on property taxes and that commitment wasn't given because they are likely to change...
How is Sunak so crap? Is it the wealth that insulates him from reality?
It could be that he’s deliberately trying to get the Tories massacred.
You have to start to wonder if he is a Labour plant. Literally who goes to D-Day event with all the world leaders and goes sorry lads I'm off early for an ITV News interview. Its not the opening of an Iceland in your constituency.

I am trying to think of any French war since WW2 that involved air combat. There was bombing in Indochina and Algeria, but I think neither opponent fielded air forces.
Mark Harper repeats Rishi Sunak's lie about the £2,000 Labour tax
Fiona Bruce calls him out on it
Mark Harper doubles down
Fiona Bruce reads out the letter
OTOH you could take the attitude that they're beaten anyway and might as well just go for broke and repeat the same total lie on an endless loop, in the hope that the number sticks and low attention voters are frightened by it. It's essentially the Vote Leave bus Mk.2.
But that's just another iteration of the funk the Conservatives have got themselves into.
Everything they do is strange, uncomprehending cosplay of Conservative happy places. Recycled facade of Thatcherism, without any of the wiring or moral basis that made it work. Reheated attack lines from 2016 and 2019.
Things that were associated with success then, but which aren't working now. But like followers of a cargo cult, there's no resource to come up with anything better.
What was the biggest ever majority by any party to have been lost at the subsequent General Election?
I think I know the answer
208? Conservatives at 1924 election won 412 seats and lost their majority in 1929
Yes I think so.
And one close to my heart as the first General Election under universal suffrage in which all women over the age of 21 could vote (21 then being the voting age)
"France to transfer Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine, Macron announces.
Speaking after the end of the 80th anniversary of D-Day commemorations in Normandy, the French President Emmanuel Macron said his country would train Ukrainian pilots."

I think Keith Vaz is running for the OneLeicesterParty, a breakaway group of former Labour councillors.
If he was to get elected it would be far worse than Galloway. Galloway is a nasty piece of work that know how to play the game, but Vaz, there is just so much dodgy shit.
Tory MP texts tonight in total disgust about PM leaving the D Day commemorations early. Said when they saw the picture of Cameron with the other world leaders at the ceremony, they initially thought the BBC had chosen the wrong picture.

Desert Storm (1991)?
The Iraqis didn’t fly. A wise decision given the coalition a/c assembled.
Not Sunak but you do wonder if some of his advisers are. Mind you, if they were and it came out that could be terrible for Labour.

I am obviously joking. But again it shows just how totally useless at politics, well its more than that, Sunak is. Literally how can you not work out that forget GE etc, its your job to be there and glad hand with world leaders. Its not even about nice photos or brownie points, its literally your job as PM to represent the country.
There are lots of negative things you can say about Cameron time in office, but he knew how to behave on the world stage. After Boris and Corbyn, where it wasn't even certain they could properly dress themselves at any of these events, Sunak was supposed to be a return to a certain level of normal.

I agree with your post. 🥰 Except the bit about Tories ever had the chance to avoid this mess, once Rishi had firmly lead with it.
And it’s not just the 2K Lie - every Conservative has to hold the line on boat crossings are down, waiting lists are down, pensioners have never paid tax, Rwanda will be a fabulous deterrent, over and over till election day, as these answers are now the actual spine of the Conservative campaign. 🫣
And with the 2K Lie, the fact the Civil Service immediately called Rishi a liar is the take out from it this week, but far more damaging in long run is those 12yr old SPADs whose never had to work for a living in their lives who created this, only got it to up to 2K figure by only working families paying for it, totally ignoring the rest of the tax system and how it works to fund Tory pledges. The spectator piece leapt on this part of the madness straightaway, because the daftness of saying that was visible from space. It’s dragged in “how much do all these Tory pledge's cost in the fantasy world just a subset of tax payers pay them”.
Sure there is lies and spin at elections, and the best of campaigns work and are legendary, but it has to be more sophisticated and subtle than something that instantly falls apart, into this “properly taking voters as mugs with your never ending lies” narrative in just 24hrs!
If Cummings clever £350M “gross on a bus” is Grad A version how to do it, this was more like D minus.
We can now see why Tory members wanted Truss over Richi
Truss voters today.
Shadow Chancellor after Suella wins the leadership election. You can see it happening. If they both hold their seats. And if the Conservatives are still the second largest party.
Richi flew back from Normandy to give a TV interview to once again repeat his lies.
He deserves everything that's coming...
You've been told multiple times to stop the "Richi" stuff.
Grow up.
What on Earth has got into you tonight?
Four weeks and thirty minutes until the exit poll, and he knows he has to vote for the loser Rishi Sunak in an attempt to stop the first Labour general election victory in 19 years. I can understand it being a bit disagreeable.

Clearly true AI is still quite some way off.
He deserves everything that's coming...
Labour 1945 - majority 146
Labour 1950 - majority 5
1951 - Tory majority

Anyone know when it’s due out? Is it tomorrow?
However, what I would do is ensure every photo in publicity material like leaflets, was me in a group of smiling residents, kids, dogs. And I would bang on just 2 issues - getting value for money for all the taxes the constituents will pay, and tackling crime for safe streets in the community.
And it doesn’t matter at all which party you are standing for or what level election is for, just bang on about fighting for VFM from taxes and Law and order and safe crime free community.
But the engineering solutions will probably take too long for those as old as Leon and me.

Grow up.
Political instinct of a particularly foul mosquito.
Genuine LOL.

But Rishi told lies about the source of the figures and the nature of the Treasury's involvement. He's backed the Tories into a corner, and his ministers are now left with no choice but to keep repeating it.
Absurd you're defending him, just cos you think he's on your "side".
Pathetic.
The reason this triggers is due to pure cognitive dissonance, everyone knows its true but many don't care because they'd pay good money (their money) to see the Tories out.
But, boy oh boy, will you pay.
In your case dry out, grow up, and then go shopping for a brain - preferably not on a seasonal sale day.
Choose wisely
You can't say, but, THE TORIES!!! in response to every challenge.
Doesn't wash.
And they invariably won.
As limpid as a slice of cucumber in some artisanal gin and tonic.
I might just be having fun.
He really is useless . Who is advising him ?

Or the washing machine business must be too slow to make a living at.
But the Tories have been so dishonest that it's impossible to have a rational conversation about them so you may as well ignore the issue.
BTW Hunt tried to pressurise Labour into saying no changes on property taxes and that commitment wasn't given because they are likely to change...
OGH rightly called out the OESI in 2010, and this tedious and juvenile behaviour needs to be called out now.
Not just in the Labour Party either, the Conservatives had feuding issues too:

Just fuck off or be banned (to teach you a lesson) if you can't spell his name right.
Fuck off.
This is like the brawl outside the pub shortly before everyone goes home.
Next, I will order a stunningly disappointed doner kebab and then chunder all over Scott's mums petunia bed and take a slash in his letterbox.
Sleep tight.

Currently unclear when this interview took place.
Labour source: “Rishi Sunak should tell the truth - did he skip the D Day commemorations this afternoon to try and convince people he’s not a liar?”
