Yes, if I were Labour I'd stay clear of the 'plays a blinder' stuff from now on and just hope to sneak in by the back door. Actually if you look at Lord A's polls today and compare the relative gain %s for Labour to get to that 270, it is pretty good for them - Harrow East down at 22% for instance, the only one on their model that Labour should be getting is Morecambe and Lunesdale.0

No, Ed Miliband won by crafting his political message well for his audience - the unions didn't have to back him and didn't all do, and he realised that large parts of the Labour Party weren't entirely comfortable with a leader who was in close proximity to rendition and Iraq and so under an alternative vote system which included 'affiliates' who tend to be to the left of the main party, staking out a position as a moderate non-New Labour candidate was always a promising strategy due to preferential voting, and everyone knew that the union bosses would support the person with the best chance of defeating David.Ishmael_X said:

Mixed day really - Ashcroft constituency polls good for Con (in my view, I know some disagree), YouGov good for Lab.
Labour has dominated the news two days in a row - Tony Blair and non-doms. I do hope Con have an announcement about something (indeed anything) to get some headlines tomorrow.

What I cannot understand in all this was there was a leak from the Tory Focus group which where showed Miliband doing his speeches around the country. It showed there were a significant number of the focus group "warmed" to Miliband more they saw of him. So, despite knowing this, the still screwed up the debates. This going around telling people Ed is Crap is gaining no traction. They might have well handed out links to this website and asked people to click on the comments section. Could have saved them millions.kle4 said:

Its easy to spot where Labour replaced Conservative in the 1990s on the graph here:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/11518985/Bank-of-England-warns-on-Britains-120bn-payments-deficit.html
But not where Conservative replaced Labour in 2010.
And that's because Brown and Osborne have the same economic strategy:
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend
Borrow and spend

Am rather baffled by the Tories making trident a major attack line, for a start it implicitly accepts that there's a fair likelihood of Ed M being PM. Secondly does anyone really care about trident that much? I get that it's kipper bait, but it's not exactly a frightening example of a hellish Labour government. On balance I'd renew it, as it strikes me as slightly daft to give up a huge negotiating chip, but honestly meh.
Sturgeon making trident a red line was also bizarre - would she bring down a Lab government and let the Tories in? Could rule it out and kill two birds with one stone, say 'we don't play politics with defence' - challenges the SNP to blink and say whether they think getting rid of it is so important it justifies a Tory government, and makes Labour and Ed look a bit tougher.0 -
