    Indeed.
    That is astonishing.
Presumably money from porn is distributed a lot more widely than money from Hollywood. There must be a lot of people making not very much. But still some people must be getting seriously rich from this.
Actually, I heard recently about a FOAF who had briefly become a millionaire solely from hosting websites whi h provided links to port sites.
I was astonished by that too.

Believe it or not, this was mostly of work related.

The explosion of YouTubers and Vlogers has all sorts of banking and money laundering regulations that need updating.

You learn that picture quality is important.

But august publications have picked up on things like that.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2016/01/20/porns-dirtiest-secret-what-everyone-gets-paid.html

    But porn is big money.

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/porn-could-bigger-economic-influence-121524565.html
Netflix had a bigger revenue that Hollywood, back in 2018, gosh I am surprised, especially as it has grown a lot since then.

meanwhile, in the Great White North, the Green Party of Canada has just lost 1/3 of it's federal MPs

CBC - Green MP Jenica Atwin crossing the floor to join the Liberals

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/jenica-atwin-joining-the-liberals-1.6060501

June 10 - A senior Liberal source said Atwin initiated the floor-crossing several weeks ago

Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin bolted from the Green party caucus today, crossing the floor of the House of Commons to join the governing Liberals.

Atwin accomplished a historic breakthrough for the Greens in the last election, winning their first ever seat in Atlantic Canada when she defeated Liberal incumbent Matt DeCourcey in Fredericton. Atwin, along with Paul Manly and former leader Elizabeth May, gave the Greens three MPs and their largest caucus in history.

Atwin's departure is a setback for a party that has long sought more influence in Parliament — and a coup for the Liberals as they look to rally progressive voters around the party ahead of a possible fall election.

In announcing her shock move today, Atwin, a former teacher and community organizer in Oromocto, N.B., said there were too many "distractions" in the Green Party and she wanted to work in a more "supportive and collaborative" environment.

Recent party infighting over issues like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict took her away from the issues that matter most to her constituents, Atwin said.

"It certainly played a role," she said, when asked whether a recent dispute over Green Party Leader Annamie Paul's public statements about the Middle Eastern conflict pushed her to join the Liberals. Paul has been accused of ignoring established party policy on Israel.

At a press conference alongside Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc today, Atwin said that while she'll stand for a different party in the coming election, "my priorities, my values remain the same." . . . .

She vowed to continue her fight for aggressive climate action and to oppose fracking and projects like the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, which the government is in the process of building after years of delays. . . .

Atwin said the Liberals offered nothing in exchange for her floor-crossing and she was not promised a cabinet post. . . .

A senior Liberal source said Atwin initiated the floor-crossing several weeks ago when she reached out to the governing party.

The source said Atwin expressed comfort with the Liberals' approach to core issues such as the environment and reconciliation. Atwin's husband Chris Atwin is a councillor with the Oromocto First Nation.

A fracture over the Middle East - Atwin's departure comes after the Israeli-Palestinian conflict exposed fault lines in the Green party ranks.

Atwin directly challenged Paul's position on the conflict, saying Paul's call for de-escalation and a return to dialogue between the two was "totally inadequate." . . . .

    Quite.

People having private parties at home can let all the rules burn. The rozzers aren't going to banging on doors except in the case of the most egregious examples.

Businesses, on the other hand, are completely screwed by all these regulations - and even if we do finally get rid of them at some point before we're all dead of old age, there will be very real longer term destruction. A lot of pubs in particular are worried that people have simply got out of the habit of going, and once all the support goes and they are expected to trade without assistance they won't be able to get the punters back quickly enough to stave off bankruptcy.

The longer this goes on for, the more I'm tempted to just buy one of those "hidden disability" lanyards so I can dispense with the bleeding masks, at least for train journeys and big shopping expeditions where you spend your time going in and out of places.

The only thing that really puts me off is the belligerence of random angry strangers. My husband, who is severely asthmatic and genuinely entitled to be free of wretched masks, persists with them for the same reason.
Has he shopped around? - there are some masks out there that have a very low resistance to airflow, for example. Cycling and city running means that there was some expensive, but very minimalist systems out there.

Yes - the calculation is derived from the hospital admissions numbers. Which in theory makes it a more stable method than using cases, since you can get massive movements when they flood areas with lateral flow tests.

I'm still on a pack of cycling snoods (neck tubes) I bought when it all started. Far less of an impediment than a mask. By now very few places (apart from hospitals) insist on *masks*, and if they do they give you one.

The GB News launch looks like it is going really well. It is a start up news channel so the poor picture quality doesn't really matter, people in the real world are interested in the content. Stop Funding Hate are giving them free promotion, effectively creating a news story whereas previously there would have been none (ie: watch this channel that the pathetic woke babies are trying to cancel!). It might be a turning point, the more mad the woke get about it, the more vexatious complaints about hate speech etc that they pursue against it, the more promotion they give it; and there is nothing really wrong with what the agenda they are following on GBNews, it will all look like common sense to the average Brit and very far from Fox News.

You're probably not listening to me anymore - given I told you over and over that 21st June was a wrap - but I really do think this is a fundamental misreading of what's going on. We have incompetence. We have a curious mix of complacency and hypercaution, bombast and insecurity, but what we don't have is government capture by a bunch of authoritarian scientists who will never let us go unmasked on a bus again or snog a stranger in a nightclub. This delay is not evidence of that. July 19th is nailed on. I'm as sure of this as I was about June 21st. No, surer.
I agree. That’s the big opportunity of the next few weeks. For potentially the first time in 18 month’s the scientific modelling and advice is not a moving target. There is a model. It has (fairly pessimistic) central predictions based on the restrictions in place. It allows genuine potential for the modelling to be demonstrably wrong and the politicians to break free from it.

Autumn winter could still be dangerous though. But hopefully the spell could be broken.

Re: the defection of one of three Green MPs in Canada to the Liberal Party, looks like a boost for Justin PM Trudeau and his potential hope of achieving a majority in the next federal general election.

Which is not scheduled to take place until 2023. HOWEVER it's looking increasing likely that Trudeau may call a snap election for October 2021, to take advantage of his vax & COVID bounce in the polls, along with the failure-to-launch (so far anyhow) by new Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole.

And now the Grits have taken advantage over internal Green Party squabbling, both ideological and personal, over the recent eruption Palestine v Israel. The leader Green Party Leader Annamie Paul, is also relatively new, and NOT much liked by former leader Catherine May & many other Green leader. Situation is complicated by fact that Paul is NOT an MP, have run and lost in a Toronto riding twice, though she ran a good race the 2nd time in a by-election to replace disgraced Liberal cabinet minister.

Another complication is that Annamie Paul is both Black and Jewish. Add impassioned tweets by Green MPs (including Jenica Atwin before she crossed the aisle) with retorts by Paul's chief advisor, a passionate Green and Zionist, and you've got yourself a sizable donnybrook for a small party.

Getting back to the Liberals, they've shown both notable dexterity AND classic insider savvy (a Grit specialty) in picking off one-third of the Green caucus. While they may take a hit with some Jewish voters, my guess is this will be balanced by firming up support with progressive AND ethnic voters. Plus throwing a monkey wrench into the works for the Greens, especially in New Brunswick and the Maritimes, where they a threat to the Libs.

NDP may also benefit, but Trudeau looks willing to take that risk as a possible election - declared by him - approaches. And why not?

CNN: The delay will almost certainly divide opinion. While most of the public has been largely supportive of the UK's tough Covid restrictions throughout the pandemic, Johnson's habit of U-turning could go down badly as citizens and businesses have been busy making plans for their summer of freedom. British citizens have been living under some form of Covid-19 restrictions since March 23, 2020, when Prime Minister Boris Johnson somberly told the nation that, with immediate effect, they must stay at home in order to suppress the virus.

Since that date, the UK's Covid story has been through numerous ups and downs, from failed testing systems to thousands of daily deaths and the canceling of Christmas.

Despite this, basic facts about the company are largely unknown. That includes its main owner — a businessman called Bernard Bergemar, whose name is almost completely invisible on the internet but who has a claim to the title of the world’s most successful porn tycoon. Until this Financial Times investigation, his identity was secret, known only to a small circle of MindGeek executives and their advisers.

Maybe they could sort out GBNews production issues....
Onlyfans probably qualifies as a UK owned unicorn, apart from not being a plc.

If the other comments are true, PC Plod may be interested.

Up here our Nottinghamshire plod were telling off 6th formers about transmission of indecent images offences when sending images to girl/boyfriends.

Delta is a potential threat to the very unlucky, but then so is pancreatic cancer and who spends their life worrying about contracting that? If you were that terrified of your own (ultimately inevitable) death then you couldn't function.

And if some future variant rocks up that resets the vaccine clock back to zero then we might as well just give up, frankly.

Still just a VOI in Ca - lets hope it stays that way....
Yep, and it will run through unvaccinated communities. But because the most vulnerable are vaccinated, it won't lead to hospitals becoming overrun. Instead, it will probably just result in the vaccination rate ticking up.
  • kinabalukinabalu Posts: 44,793

At best it will be things like nightclubs can re-open but only to those who are vaccinated or recently tested.

It is not that the government could care less either way, the only thing they care about is poll ratings and the zoomocracy love lockdown life and vote Tory. That is the problem the government have got themselves into.
Definitely the polls are a big factor. Totally agree with that. And this isn't good for Labour because with honourable exceptions such as your good self the folks who are livid about ongoing restrictions are not susceptible to a Labour vote - and in any case Labour are not arguing against a delay. That's more of a Tory backbencher thing.

But back to our putative even money bet. I've thought about it and I'm happy to define No Delay as meaning nightclubs are completely free of legal Covid restrictions after July 19th. Ooo er missus. Brave. I'm feeling brave.

Porn has been an industry turned totally upside down by the pandemic. As studio production got shut down, the known ‘stars’ who worked for the production houses have realised they can earn in a month from OF what they earned in a year as an ‘actress’.

    Speaker and Boris make up

Future announcements to be made simultaneously in Commons and press conferences

Boris Johnson and Sir Lindsay Hoyle have agreed that future significant announcements could be made simultaneously in the Commons and in a press conference, according to the Commons Speaker's office.

It follows criticism of the PM for announcing the extension to restrictions outside of Parliament.

After a "cordial meeting", Sir Lindsay's spokeswoman said: "The Speaker and the Prime Minister met this afternoon. It was a positive meeting in which they agreed the importance of keeping Parliament and the public informed when decisions are made."

Asked whether any concrete decisions had been made to alleviate the row, the spokeswoman said: "They agreed announcements would be made at the same time."

Sir Lindsay accused Downing Street of "running roughshod" over MPs by not informing them first of changes to the government's roadmap.

Speaking as Health Secretary Matt Hancock prepared to make a statement to MPs last night, Sir Lindsay said: "I will be pursuing this matter with him. I do not find it acceptable at all – members of this House are elected to come here to serve their constituents, not to serve them via Sky or BBC."

Interesting. So PM informs the country and gets questioned by the pre-recorded public and media . . . while Hancock informs Parliament which nobody watches as the news is showing the PM and Keir responds to Hancock with nobody paying any attention.

Not sure how that's meant to be better for Parliamentary scrutiny than the PM being grilled by the LOTO the next day.

For me that should have been at the end of the '3 weeks to save the NHS' by which point deaths had peeked, we know a lot about the virus, and could see that hospitals would be busy but not overrun and everybody was still keen to voluntarily do what they could.

There were queues round the block of very young people at Petersfield vaccination centre today. Dozens and dozens of them.

No let up as far as I can see.

That's great but to what end now? The scientists are saying vaccination isn't enough to bring an end to this. The whole political class is letting us down by giving this scientists a free hand to reshape the nature of this country without even as much as a single vote.

I think in the 3rd world they have bigger things to worry about than covid...like getting enough to eat maybe
  • And BBC now running the GB News story...explaining what is cancel culture and woke....not sure GB News could have paid for that publicity.

Speaking to BBC News on Tuesday, Richard Wilson, director of media group Stop Funding Hate, said that the immediate controversial tone meant "it's no surprise" that a reputable brand such as Kopparberg are "stepping away, and refusing to align with this".

The group has begun compiling a list of brands advertising on the fledgling channel - urging its 120,000 followers on Twitter to exert pressure on them on social media.

As a result most would have had the original variant, and built up some immunity, meaning no, or at least less impact form 'new more deadly variants'

No, I think if permanent lockdown was put to a vote it would lose. The issue here is that they're boiling the frog and idiots like Boris are falling for it.

For long parts of the time lockdown was the right policy, although I accept I did not factor in how hard it would be to get back to normality. Even if I had understood lockdown might last much longer than necessary I don't think it would change my mind that it was needed in spring 2020 and over this winter. I became a moderate lockdown sceptic in about April and now feel quite strongly about it, up til then I was in support.

I don't see anything inconsistent between my current objections and my prior support as the situation changes very quickly.

I'm as angry and disappointed at the continuation of restrictions as anyone else but that's not really accurate.

Its ridiculous this garbage was swallowed from the scientists and its irritating nobody with the numeracy and balls to stand up to them said "wait, this is ridiculous" or even "what JCVI groups will these tens of thousands dead be from ...

... But in 4 weeks time every single adult in the country will be vaccinated that wants to be, anyone left unvaccinated its their own damned fault by then, which isn't the case today. In 4 weeks time there'll be millions more with second jabs.

So as ridiculous as this extension is, its not permanent.

Robust. You neglected to add, put your shopping in the garage for a couple of days because “you can’t be sure”, wear tatty gloves but fondle every bloody fruit and vegetable in the shops, jump sideways as somebody comes close and wear a mask beneath the nostrils because “it’s so hard to breath”.

Room temperature IQ the lot of them.
