Virtually certain to be a BIG spike in COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations & deaths in USA this weekend.
Why? Because Saturday is July 4th - Independence Day.
Traditionally the holiday is celebrated from sea to shining sea with fireworks and fire crackers, leading to numerous injuries and a few deaths. THIS year, this body count will be down, but the Creeping Crud will more than make up for the difference.
BTW when yours truly thinks about 4th of July, always remember the great scene from "The Great Escape" when trio of American POWs hosted (if that's the word) an epic Independence Day celebration for the mass of British POWs in Stalag Luft III. This scene was based on a true incident, as described in Paul Brickhill's classic book. At first the German guards thought a riot had broken out - then they realized it was one hell of an Anglo-American party, a real red-white-and-blue hooohaaa and brain fry.

I've voted for WIlkinson's drop goal. Watched that one in Australia, brilliant.
Lewis Hamilton winning the championship at the last corner in 2008 and Liverpool winning the CL on penalties in 2005 stand out, the 2005 Ashes the runner up, but Jonny Wilkinson Drops for World Cup Glory, at 10am in the pub after about eight pints has to be the winner.

The issues of encouraging Black winemakers in the Cape are pertinent too. The RSA wine industry has quite a long history of abusive labour practices, most notoriously paying the workers wages substantially in cheap rotgut wine in lieu of cash. This perpetuated a cycle of poverty and alcoholism in their workers.
Good to hear that things are looking up there. South Africans of all races are very friendly and welcoming, except too often to each other.1 -

Key point in the podcast from Kate Fall. She says it was a really critical moment when the Tories decided to move away from Labour spending plans having supported the bailout. Starmer is likely to face a similar dilemma in the next year or so.1

But yes, it does have to come to a close, government can’t afford to keep paying people to stay at home, and sadly for many there won’t be a job for them to go back to. Hospitality sectors are going to be very badly affected, everyone should be encouraged to spend their money at home this summer rather than travel abroad.
My point about Scotland was mostly political - Sturgeon just wants to be different, and bonus points if she can blame “Westminster” for the failings of her own decisions. Right now, she seems more than happy to destroy the whole summer tourist season in Scotland.
Hint to the Conservative Party: you really ought to focus on fighting this pandemic in a more competent fashion and leave the childishness to a later date. I confidently predict that my advice will be ignored. Again.0 -
