They match in shape in Guildford and Esher but not in Finchley (special case) and Wimbledon.Philip_Thompson said:
Indeed, they don't match your model at all. We see the LDs going up as forecast but not by enough to take the seats.Barnesian said:

Some of the Remain vote is going to Labour, about half the Remain vote. Not all of it. Not much evidence of the reverse in Con/LD marginals. Especially when the LDs were seeking to call seats with over 10k votes to overhaul .Barnesian said:
It's very good news. It means the remain vote is not being split in Con/Lab marginals but going to Labour. It's the reverse in Con/LD marginals but there are far fewer of them, hence the reduction in LD national vote.Philip_Thompson said:
Interesting phrasing. All the pollsters show it falling, but if you choose to only look at those its fallen the least and then ignore the fall that shows then the Lib Dems have lost less and you wouldn't view that as tanking? Strange cherrypicking.wills66 said:Richard_Nabavi said:In one respect "Oh all the instruments agree". The pollsters are unanimous that Jo Swinson's Liberal Democrats have tanked during the campaign.
Actually no, depending on your definition of "tanked". All the pollsters show the LD vote share declining but those pollsters showing the smaller Tory leads show that decline as being in the 2-3% range.
I wouldn't define 2-3% as "tanked".
WillS.
In September the Lib Dems were consistently polling around 20% ± 2%. They're now consistently around 13% ± 2%. They've lost about 35% of the people who were intending to vote for them - I'd call that tanking.
Wimbledon is interesting. The constituency poll and anecdotes show Labour collapsing and LDs with a reasonable chance of taking the seat. But my model shows Labour as the competitor to the Tories. Where my model doesn't fit it is often because I'm too severe on the LDs in my assumptions of tactical voting for them, not too optimistic. It could be that LDs take more seats than I'm predicting (26).0 -

To be fair, we all do it. People wanted Matt Hancock and/or his adviser to have been attacked by a braying mob because it would make Labour look bad and reinforce their views of the party. But a lot of us wanted Johnson to have been talking about controlling immigratin by people of colour last week when he wasn't. We need to ask ourselves some hard questions because this is not healthy.1

OK - I will give you my perspective based on my family’s experiences. It implies that you are not committed to life in this country or to its well being, that you are merely temporarily passing through, just staying for a short time. And people like my parents were not like that: my father volunteered to fight for this country when its very existence was in peril. He left his large Irish family; he lost his accent so as not to be categorised as a thick Paddy. My mother was Italian to her very bones but when she moved here to marry my father she committed herself to life here and stayed here throughout long years of widowhood, longer than her marriage because this was the place where she lived with the man she loved and had her children and grandchildren. It was part of her. It made her who she was. She was Italian - yes, very much so - but she was also someone who had been made and affected by life in Britain. She admired Britain and British values and had, in some ways, an old-fashioned view of them which gave the British rather more credit for them than British behaviour on occasion justified.Philip_Thompson said:
What's the stigma about being a guest?Cyclefree said:
Discussed at length on the previous thread. According to some, people who don’t get a British passport despite living here for decades, working, paying taxes, raising families etc, even fighting for this country are “guests”, if they’re lucky “honoured guests” and should not think of this as a stigma.AlastairMeeks said:
It will no doubt be effective. Those Conservative partisans who affect to care about racism when they perceive it elsewhere, take note. If you have any principles, this is your chance to demonstrate them.
Yes if you've not a citizen here you are a guest of the country, that's always been the case and isn't new. That's why non-citizens don't get to vote here. Its also why British ex-pats living abroad who don't claim citizenship where they move to don't get to vote in the country they move to after emigrating too.
And when she became a widow her Italian family assumed she would go back to Italy, as if her life here was merely some passing phase. And she really hated that assumption - as if they did not understand that she had decided all those years ago to make her life in a new home. For good.
It is much harder - emotionally - than people realise to make the break from your childhood country to another one. Exciting, something new etc but you are also leaving your family group behind in ways which can be lonely because you no longer have quite the same shared experiences.
“Guests” simply does not describe the reality of such experiences or of the commitment involved. It is superficially polite but distancing; it subtly diminishes people.

"According to the results, Labour lose Wrexham, Vale of Clwyd, Gower, Cardiff North, Delyn, Bridgend, Clwyd South, and Alyn & Deeside to the Conservatives, who would also win back Brecon & Radnorshire, which they lost to the Liberal Democrats in a by-election earlier this year.

It plays directly to Bozo’s already displayed weaknesses - lack of empathy, trying to dodge or evade anything difficult or uncomfortable, not wanting to deviate from his prepared sound bites whatever he is asked. Watching the clip you can see Bozo working this out as he s going along, although it was still bizarre that he kept the guy’s phone in his pocket for so long.Byronic said:Boris' foolish reaction to the photo is 2nd most read article on BBC

Unlikely to change the game given what looks like a secure lead, but it demonstrates once again that Bozo isn’t the campaigning asset he was cracked up to be.0 -
What your parents did was commit to this country and contribute to it hugely. They made it a better place and brought up a family that has also made this country better. 1/2 might be a bit short for me.
Given both Con and Lab strengthening further, it is harder to see Plaid coming through in Ynys Mon now. Plaid should be favourites in Ceredigion given that the LDs are going backwards in Wales since October. I would say the odds of Plaid winning 5 or more are something like: 0.35 (chance of winning Ynys Mon) x 0.8 (chance of winning Ceredigion if polls are good enough for them to win Ynys Mon) = 0.28.
So odds of about 2/5 on Plaid getting under 5 would seem to be a fair price.0 -

Evidence from Leeds would suggest otherwise on the rent a mob front, unless of course you are referring to Tory Social Media rent a mob.
It would suggest the Tories are lying again to try and divert from Jester refusal to give a fuck about a 4 year olds plight
What punch what arrest what a load of Tory lies0 -
Look North from Leeds really bad for Tories.
Jester refusing to look at poor 4 yr old followed by Tories lying about non existent punches and arrests0 -

A big question mark plus the paying of local activists to pile into the area, which parent would want their child used as a political football.
I said a big question mark, there is already evidence of taxis being paid for the Labour rent-a-mob.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the word 'guest' and Cyclefree is just trying to make political capital out of this. If immigrants wish to be treated as citizens then they can get British citizenship. If they do not wish to do this then they have no need to complain or demand they are treated as equals. This is the rule in practically every country on earth including the rest of the EU.Philip_Thompson said:
Thank you for that. People can have a lot of commitment but I still think there is nothing derogatory or presumptive in the word guest. If I use it I don't mean anything negative by it or any implication of a lack of commitment.
I assume your mother always had the option to take citizenship of this country, if she wanted it? That would have formally made her British with the rights and responsibilities that entails. She chose not to do so from what I understand? That's her choice and I fully respect it.
People should make the choices that suit them and there is no right or wrong answer.
What I would say is that, as someone has already suggested on here, we should make the cost of citizenship the same as that of getting a passport so that money is no deterrent. But otherwise there is nothing wrong at all with differentiating between citizens and guests. And I say that as someone who has spent much of their life working as a guest - and paying taxes - in other countries.0 -

Can this heartwarming set of observations (the NHS being for lazy proles, foreign scroungers, and people who can't afford to buy pills at Boots, who all block the real deservers) go into an addendum to the Tory manifesto please?funkhauser said:
