A big gain for the Yellows, but one with zero chance of holding his seat at a general election. You could put a donkey up in that seat and if it wore a blue rosette it would win. Heck, even Dominic Cummings would probably just scrape home.AramintaMoonbeamQC said:

FPT - The City of Manchester ( one borough ) had a referendum on whether to have a directly elected mayor run its council services. It was a binding referendum, they voted No and they didn't get a mayor. Andy Burnham is the Mayor of Greater Manchester ( ten boroughs ) and runs strategic services not mentropolitan borough ones. The ' they ignored the Manchester referendum result ' is a common misconception but it's basically untrue. Andy Burnham covers a vastly larger geographic area and has a completely different set of powers than the proposition on the referendum ballot paper.0
-
No surprise, he should have gone earlier now we can finally select a pro Brexit Tory candidate in East Surrey to replace him.
Gyimah voted against the Withdrawal Agreement and to extend over the risk of No Deal, TSE take note being a diehard Remainer is not and never will be the definition of a 'One Nation Tory'0 -

So that's 3 former Labour MPs and 3 former Con MPs joined? Good balance, best hold off another Labour defector until another Tory one is lined up.0

I'm not a Thatcherite, but boy has she been proved right in her claim that those self-defining as "One Nation Conservatives" in the modern era are more properly described as "No Nation Conservatives". Time to reform the Pro Euro Conservative Party, lads.0

Can't accuse all the defectors for trying to make easier for themselves to keep a seat, given how large their former party majorities are.0

The One Nation group had about a third of the Parliamentary Conservative Party. Not that all are still in it, but it is a big pool to fish in.JBriskinindyref2 said:

The other useful thing about council Mayoral referendums is their maximum frequency is set in law. You have to wait seven years before calling another mayoral referendum to reverse the result of the last one. If that was the case with EUref2 and Indyref2 things would be much clearer. Seven years is also the maximum frequency for border polls in the GFA.0

Maybe Gyimah has been promised an inner London seat.0

That is not that far from the average IQ of the average voter so no harm electorally there, better a Leaver Tory MP of average intelligence who respects democracy and the party's core vote than a diehard Remainer Tory MP like Grieve of high intelligence who has contempt for a democratic vote and the party's core votersnichomar said:0 -

Interesting niche fact - Jo Johnson and Sam Gyimah both held the IP Minister portfolio. With that in mind, keep an eye on Chris Skidmore, who got the job earlier this week.0

Glad to see HYUFD has also drunk the Momentum Kool-Aid. Clearly fucking off a good chunk of your sitting MPs and the people who support them and the entire long standing ethos behind them is a winning strategy.
