Herefordshire and most of Shropshire are almost empty.
Powys is empty except for a high population density of sheep.

Thats because everyone wants to live in the South East. We don't really have a housing problem, we have a regional imbalance problem.

There is a really interesting recent freakonomics podcast about German economy and contained in it why they don't have the same problem as London / SE.

Gosh, what a joke we are. We can't even have proper bloody sex scandals.

Also, having seen the full spreadsheet, there seems to be a rather high correlation between being considered a potential future leader and being named on the sheet. Considering the timing it seems to me that someone may be trying to get rid of some rivals.

It makes sense for May to promote one of her allies in Williamson rather than bringing someone totally new in.

Quite glad I didn't get around to backing anyone. It wouldn't've been Williamson.

There are three dimensions and Britain needs to consider using the third one far more than it does. That doesn't need to mean tower blocks. Five or six floors would be ample.

Morning, all.

I did tip the next Defence Secretary to be an existing cabinet minister. Odds on the next generation (and Boris) were far too short.

Big gamble for TMay to appoint him though, not so much on the merits of that appointment but because she now needs a new Chief Whip, a job which Williamson had done effectively. If she screws that appointment up then she greatly increases the chances that she'll be out well before she plans to be - it's as simple as that.

This also points to a bigger reshuffle than just a linear set of appointments. The new CW ought to be current cabinet too, to give him or her sufficient clout, which means at least three cabinet appointments today.

Er, I dunno, it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm in Bramley, near Godalming, though shortly moving to Haslemere. The surrounding area is nothing but rolling fields as far as the eye can see. It's very pretty, but honestly you could build on some of it and it'd still look amazingly rural.

That said, Surrey rural roads are often scarily narrow and twisty, so it's not just an issue of housing but how to get around.
