It gets her a 15 second slot on national media - but it seems overplayed of late. She'll need other strings to her bow if she's going to rise to the next level.
    She already has them:

    1) End WFA in England and Wales but keep it in Scotland
    2) Build endless new towns (financing and locations not specified)

    Vote winnerzzz
If true, your second point would be a killer. At the present time nothing is enraging true blue home counties voters more than proposed new towns / garden villages. In east Surrey there are posters opposing the proposals there on virtually every street corner.
I'm in West Surrey. The same things true there. Pressure on roads and traffic really enrages people.
Surrey is ridiculously over-populated, I agree from my visits there.
Herefordshire and most of Shropshire are almost empty.
Powys is empty except for a high population density of sheep.
Thats because everyone wants to live in the South East. We don't really have a housing problem, we have a regional imbalance problem.

I was told a few years ago that I’d make an excellent Chief Whip.

    Just saying.

Also, having seen the full spreadsheet, there seems to be a rather high correlation between being considered a potential future leader and being named on the sheet. Considering the timing it seems to me that someone may be trying to get rid of some rivals.

Making Esther McVey Chief Whip would be a serious misuse of her talents - she should have a visible public role.
  • Options
    Morning, all.

I did tip the next Defence Secretary to be an existing cabinet minister. Odds on the next generation (and Boris) were far too short.

Big gamble for TMay to appoint him though, not so much on the merits of that appointment but because she now needs a new Chief Whip, a job which Williamson had done effectively. If she screws that appointment up then she greatly increases the chances that she'll be out well before she plans to be - it's as simple as that.

This also points to a bigger reshuffle than just a linear set of appointments. The new CW ought to be current cabinet too, to give him or her sufficient clout, which means at least three cabinet appointments today.

    Oh!

Looks like Tess has chickened out of doing anything substantive. As usual.

What a waste of space she is!

    Ludicrous reshuffle if that's it.

    Holding position in my opinion.

By the way has anyone seen Guido's list of labour MPs and allegations.

Lots of serious issues for labour about to hit the headlines

Has to be said, that is not a great photo. Makes him look like a deputy funeral undertaker from a small Norfolk town....

I'm kinda with you on that - and I've backed her up to now.

    McVey Deputy Chief Whip.

It’s a foot in the door for her, assuming that’s it for today’s reshuffle.

She’s the first new face that Theresa thought of for a promotion, which has to stand her in good stead for next time there’s a vacancy somewhere else.

Also, having seen the full spreadsheet, there seems to be a rather high correlation between being considered a potential future leader and being named on the sheet. Considering the timing it seems to me that someone may be trying to get rid of some rivals.

And for some reason Boris isn't on the list..
He's on a full page to himself....

I’ve been there since the evening of July 13th 2016.

So this means you’re not going to tell me off if I call Mrs May to go?

You do wonder what is still in the pipeline but Esther to deputy whip is a waste of her talent

I'm in West Surrey. The same things true there. Pressure on roads and traffic really enrages people.

Surrey is ridiculously over-populated, I agree from my visits there.
Herefordshire and most of Shropshire are almost empty.
Powys is empty except for a high population density of sheep.

Er, I dunno, it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm in Bramley, near Godalming, though shortly moving to Haslemere. The surrounding area is nothing but rolling fields as far as the eye can see. It's very pretty, but honestly you could build on some of it and it'd still look amazingly rural.

That said, Surrey rural roads are often scarily narrow and twisty, so it's not just an issue of housing but how to get around.

We'll see...but my guess is that this is all we're going to get.

Agree - everyone calling for a wider reshuffle would be denouncing her for an idiot for not waiting if another minister, or two, quits in the next couple of weeks......

I’m being positive, this will only hasten her departure.

From PPS (Dave's) to Defence Secretary in 18 months - that's an impressive rise by any accounts: it will also be Williamson's first ever Departmental Ministerial role.

Nabavi reckoned he was a dud...
    He’s a dud in front of people/crowds.

    He’s a good backroom guy.
University of bradford, not all bad - or is it ;-)

Out of curiosity, who's won anything on the Next Cabinet Member to leave betting book?
