Ruth can overdo the vertically challendged puritanical Scottish wifey finger wagging schitck for me - it's all a bit Nicla-esque.
And if it was that popular - I'd visit my mother more often.
Worry ye not about Ruth's moralising, it's precisely one skin cell deep.
It gets her a 15 second slot on national media - but it seems overplayed of late. She'll need other strings to her bow if she's going to rise to the next level.
She already has them:
1) End WFA in England and Wales but keep it in Scotland 2) Build endless new towns (financing and locations not specified)
Vote winnerzzz
If true, your second point would be a killer. At the present time nothing is enraging true blue home counties voters more than proposed new towns / garden villages. In east Surrey there are posters opposing the proposals there on virtually every street corner.
I'm in West Surrey. The same things true there. Pressure on roads and traffic really enrages people.
Surrey is ridiculously over-populated, I agree from my visits there. Herefordshire and most of Shropshire are almost empty. Powys is empty except for a high population density of sheep.
Thats because everyone wants to live in the South East. We don't really have a housing problem, we have a regional imbalance problem.

There is a really interesting recent freakonomics podcast about German economy and contained in it why they don't have the same problem as London / SE.
Also, having seen the full spreadsheet, there seems to be a rather high correlation between being considered a potential future leader and being named on the sheet. Considering the timing it seems to me that someone may be trying to get rid of some rivals.

So anyone in Surrey whinging about over-development can move to Hereford or Shrewsbury if they are so concerned. We deliver 1,500 homes year on year without riots (in the SE) Can be done if the infrastructure is there (the Coalition scrapping LABGI (growth) funding did not help but not terminal) Time to take the NIMBYs on!
From PPS (Dave's) to Defence Secretary in 18 months - that's an impressive rise by any accounts: it will also be Williamson's first ever Departmental Ministerial role.

There are three dimensions and Britain needs to consider using the third one far more than it does. That doesn't need to mean tower blocks. Five or six floors would be ample.

I've seen houses already being rebuilt into attics and with basements - so that's 4 floors just for a single home.
I did tip the next Defence Secretary to be an existing cabinet minister. Odds on the next generation (and Boris) were far too short.
Big gamble for TMay to appoint him though, not so much on the merits of that appointment but because she now needs a new Chief Whip, a job which Williamson had done effectively. If she screws that appointment up then she greatly increases the chances that she'll be out well before she plans to be - it's as simple as that.
This also points to a bigger reshuffle than just a linear set of appointments. The new CW ought to be current cabinet too, to give him or her sufficient clout, which means at least three cabinet appointments today.

I agree but the Midlands also has a housing problem. The average house price in Ludlow or Shrewsbury is 10x the average UK income.

Er, I dunno, it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm in Bramley, near Godalming, though shortly moving to Haslemere. The surrounding area is nothing but rolling fields as far as the eye can see. It's very pretty, but honestly you could build on some of it and it'd still look amazingly rural.
That said, Surrey rural roads are often scarily narrow and twisty, so it's not just an issue of housing but how to get around.
Agree - everyone calling for a wider reshuffle would be denouncing her for an idiot for not waiting if another minister, or two, quits in the next couple of weeks......

Nabavi reckoned he was a dud...
He’s a dud in front of people/crowds.
He’s a good backroom guy.
University of bradford, not all bad - or is it ;-)
Anyone who survived three years in Little Horton has my respect. Only place I've ever been mugged and robbed.

Just saying.
Narrows the list of options down somewhat.
NEW: Esther McVey just into No 10
chief whip?
This is looking like a proper reshuffle.

Sorry if I misled anybody on the Tugendhat suggestion, but it was well sourced.
He can be laid at 28/1... not sure that isn't worth a bet.
Looks like Tess has chickened out of doing anything substantive. As usual.
What a waste of space she is!
By the way has anyone seen Guido's list of labour MPs and allegations.
Lots of serious issues for labour about to hit the headlines

It's not quite as bad as David Miliband with the banana but...
She’s the first new face that Theresa thought of for a promotion, which has to stand her in good stead for next time there’s a vacancy somewhere else.
So this means you’re not going to tell me off if I call Mrs May to go?
