The perpetrator almost certainly planned it (to a greater or lesser extent) but that does not provide any indication that he told others of his intentions.
He may well have done - but we just don't know enough yet.0 -

Society has become very practiced at the rituals for these occasions, sadly. Outrage and grief, defiance, deflection and then eventually forgetfulness. But we have seen that for as long as people can remember. Communities have always grown up in particular parts of our towns and cities. People move to be near their families/friends and so this 'segregation' grows naturally.Tykejohnno said:

Segregation levels have fallen in schools in Bradford in West Yorkshire and Oldham in Lancashire, but the report says the problem is increasing in Blackburn in Lancashire, Kirklees in West Yorkshire, the London borough of Barnet and Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

What we cannot permit is for this to lead to no-go areas for our public services. The police and social services (to name but two) have to have equal access to all of these communities and for their services to be respected.
We cannot permit is for 'community relations' to be a reason for not upholding the rule of law or the basic standards of human
After the bradford riots we were told that we needed social engineering of people living together( Great idea in my view)what did we get but more poor mass immigration.

A risky area of law for shooting from the hip - even imputing the crimes for which they are not guilty to someone with convictions could be expensive.FrancisUrquhart said:Have ch4 just libelled a terrorist....Imagine if they have and have to pay compensation. Surely they won't have balls this up, surely?
There are plenty of hip-shooters who got it wrong. Last December Katie H cost the Mail £150k for an accusation of mere terrorist links. They didn't even defend it in Court.
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/dec/19/mail-pays-out-150k-to-muslim-family-over-katie-hopkins-column
And Gorgeous George has had spondulicks because false allegations were made about him.
AIUI repeating or alluding to a defmatory allegation even in jest can be questionable (Sally Bercow) or putting forward suggestions of possible miscreants can be problematic (see the Schofield / Cameron Interview where he just held up a little list for a second in view on TV and the broadcaster caved to the tune of £125k out of Court).
The problems have been somewhat blunted in English Law through reform, but not iirc in NI Law. Scotland was always a rule unto itself, and I am not sure about Wales.
So playing libel games (which can be appropriate imo) is perhaps best done on personal websites rather than Mike's PB podium.
I am not a lawyer, but I think that is right ... corrections welcome.0 -

Yep, could be mentally ill but you could equally suggest anyone capable of this kind of thing can be defined as ill on some kind of psychiatric spectrum. It's a non-trivial point: I one day aspire to do a moment-by-moment analysis of UKGE2015 to track the modellers releasing updates (I'm convinced there's a lag), but establishing times are brutal: just like email, Twitter times are thought to be instantaneous but can be very laggy, so establishing times is a real problem
Do you have a source for May's before 9pm appearance? The only one I'm sure about is Khan's video - the streetlights are on, the sky is dark blue not black, Tower Bridge is in the background and the Twitter was at 7:33, so it had to have been filmed at City Hall between 6:45 and 7:30.

So she would have come out straight from the COBR meeting. I'm not sure what time it started, but it lasted for 46minutes, so if it started at 8pm she would have had 5 minutes to get to the lectern..If it started at 7:30 there would have been barely enough time for Khan to film his thing at City Hall and get to 10 Downing St.Sunil_Prasannan said:

Trumpton
The intervention by House Intelligence Chair Nunes was, you could assume, designed to put a spoke in the wheel of any investigation of Trump campaign co-ordination with the Putin regime.
It may turn out to have been a poor intervention because it effectively says officials in the Trump campaign were talking to Russian officials who were under counter intelligence watch. Then you have the amount of conversations..and then then subject matter.
It has taken no time at all for another 'off the record' brief to come out in the #FAKENEWS media about how far investigations are digging.
I said a couple of weeks back when Trump went on one of his early morning up for a pee Twitter postings that you had to bear in mind one of the motivations driving him. Fear.
Some of his associates are potentially in worse positions than him.

There was a slightly weird coincidence. I watched "Neighbours" on Channel 5+1 at 2:45. In the episode, one character arrived at Westminster tube station and then immediately went into St Thomas' Hospital to visit another character (who had been hit by a car). I wondered if there was any dramatic licence in the locations, so I looked in the atlas to check where St Homas' Hospital is.
Then I switched over to BBC News and saw the reports of the attack.0 -

WSJ on May:
“No prime minister…has been better prepared to deal with this [attack] given her responsibilities for six years looking after these very issues,” said Anthony Seldon, an expert on British political history.
Ms. May was the U.K.’s longest-serving home secretary in modern times. She took the role in 2010 and left it in July when she became prime minister. As home secretary, she was in charge of British police, border security and the domestic intelligence services MI5.
“She’s absolutely smart and strong on security,” said Jonathan Russell, head of policy at Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank in London.

I wish the world would stop lighting up monuments with the flag of a nation which has just been attacked. It's and empty gesture. It would be better to do nothing, because at least that is an honest reaction. Nothing is going to change, we will still allow these savages to come to our countries and perpetrate vile crimes against us. Time to end all Muslim migration to the UK and begin selectively taking those who are secular and not taking those who are actively religious. It is also time to make life uncomfortable for Islamists in the UK so that they are unable to continue their barbarian ways without leaving for somewhere else.0

Unless he is a convert then at some level he has been invited to the UK, whether by virtue of his parents or his own immigration. The point of stopping Muslim immigration would be to reverse the increasing belligerence and intolerance that is growing within Islamic communities in the UK. Intolerance that didn't exist 20 years ago. The young are more hard-line than their parents and grandparents, who, by Islamic standards were pretty liberal. That change has come because of foreign influence in Mosques, allowing schools in inner cities to be run as Islamist fiefdoms and a general rejection of western culture by Islamic communities. Rather than increasing the number of Muslims and therefore the issues we face, we should halt the increase and start to encourage those with incompatible views to leave the UK and encourage those who share our values to be bolder about it by giving protection for apostates, protection for women who marry outside of the religion etc... Right now those two groups and others who reject Islamic values are essentially left defenceless. If the government offered real protection it could enable a new wave of integration into British culture by UK Muslims.CarlottaVance said:

We do very little to help Muslims integrate into British life, then complain when these things happen. We also invite the worst of vile Islamist world into the country to speak at universities and Mosques at the same time. It is absolutely mental.

Follow up to yesterday's Guardian article on the Single Aviation Market in the Economist:
Perhaps things are not quite as bleak as is being suggested. It is true that some airlines on the continent would be happy to have British competition stymied. But the interests of such carriers are far less important than the those of the wider tourist industry. British tourists make up easily the highest proportion of visitors to Spain and Ireland and the second highest to France (after Germans). In other words, millions of EU27 jobs depend on vacationing Brits. It will be a brave minister who would jeopardise that by making travel between Britain and the EU27 more difficult. And then there is Heathrow. The continent’s busiest airport is the gateway for many Europeans travelling to long-haul destinations: a loss of air connectivity would not only be a problem for British business.
