Denmark have a player who plays for Brentford.

    That’ll be premier league Brentford.

Penalties are too easily awarded and too easy to change a whole match.

Given the risk-reward ratio, why wouldn't you dive in the box?
We're up against the masters of that in the final

"Covid: Are people turning off contact tracing on NHS test and trace app?". Is the Pope Catholic?

"Would you do it?" and "Do you think it's justified?" could become big polling questions in the near future. For all their commitment to "freedom", I don't think much of the press will be advocating "Turn that baby off".

PS Malcolm, think of how proud you will be if it turns out Scotland held the eventual winners to a draw.

I don't think footballers areany less intrinsically moral than any other sportsmen. But most sports are set up such that if you cheat, and get caught, the outcome will be worse than not cheating. Football on the other hand is almost designed to reward cheating. It's what makes it such a frustrating sport.

I said earlier I don't really take any pleasure from seeing England win any more. Can't connect to it emotionally any more. I do get pain from watching them labour though.
But I am enjoying watching people here get pleasure from England winning. And I am also enjoying malcolmg's anger about it. In between, no doubt, wheeling out a fresh batch of scones.

I couldn't watch the game. As I said previously I am not a great football fan - after all I am a life long West Ham fan :). But one of the reasons for that is I can't take the tension. I find watching football if I have any interest vested in one side or another hugely frustrating and in the end it is just bad for my health. So whilst my wife and son watched this evening I went for my long walk as I do almost every night and listened to Chekov's The Seagull.

But I am glad England won - actually I am delighted - because it makes so many other people happy.

I also find the comments by Malcolm to be revealing. Whilst I share his political views on Scotland, he always claims he is not driven by anti-English sentiment. And yet everything he ever writes on here betrays him. And tonight has been a classic. It makes me think less of him which is a shame.

The Danish goal should have been disallowed.

Their players moved within a metre of England's wall, so the referee screwed that up.

While it's difficult to take too much pleasure from that, it should be remembered that everyone's had narrow squeaks. Italy only just made it past Spain, and indeed only just made it past Austria, I think. Spain laboured all the way to the semis. France and Germany didn't even make it that far.
There is very rarely a tournament in which a team has it all their own way, all the time.
A shame for Denmark, what with the Christian Eriksen subplot. But they won it back in 1992. Give someone else a turn.

There was a time England used to refuse penalties when the ref thought they should have one. Didn't Fowler do it once? I support England but sad to see both the front two renowned deservedly for being divers . No chance of wining any fair play awards these days .

What idiot would watch the final on ITV?

I actually think ITV's coverage shades it over BBC's nowadays. BBC a bit complacent, smug. I like Mark Pougatch, though he has an air of desperation when he introduces England - he is as aware of the curse as anyone else. Commentators are inane but probably no more so than on the BBC.

For once England got the rub of the green in a big match. Better team and deserved to win, but Denmark tactics matched up well against England and Kasper was fantastic in goal for the Danes.

    Casper was absolutely superb.
