But years ago we were visiting my partner's bro who is. And as I lazed on the sofa with various members of her family otherwise engaged my eyes fell on their tele to see Michael Owen dribble the ball from one end of the field to the other and score. I don't know who was playing who, but I was impressed. He went through the defense like a knife through butter.

Against Argentina in the 1998 WC?

I really do wish politicians would stop pretending they do football.

    It's painful.

Starmer's always done football, so he's not pretending. Plays every week still, been a season ticket holder at Arsenal for years. Unless you're talking about Boris, not Starmer?

Looking at sequences, the last few games have seen England score 0, 1, 2, 4.
Logically, therefore, we’ll score 8 against Denmark.
    And 16 in the final.

    0,1,2,4,... are Fibonacci sums.
7 against Denmark, 12 in the final.
I just hope my English family and friends in Dundee don't have their windows put in.

Yes agreed - he looks totally genuine there. He’s a bit of a pompous dick at times but I’ve no doubt he genuinely likes football and genuinely loves an England win. Who doesn’t?!

Not like Boris. He appointed Southgate. He picked the squad, decided the tactics, and personally calls the substitutions.

Just imagine if this English side wasn't focussed on woke issues and taking the knee but focussed solely on football.

    They'd be so awesome.

If they took the kneeling seriously they'd do it during the anthem. That's how it started in the US, after all.

Both Boris and Starmer (and for that matter Priti and Truss and others) have posted cringeworthy "footy" posts. Starmer's efforts include; "Labour's coming home." Del Boy phoning Southgate. Saying staff should go home early etc.

And my sons wedding reception is in a marquee that has to have 51% of the sides open- and yes 51% is not a typo
Fascinating. Assuming that the enclosure is either square or rectangular in footprint, will the Covid Police be along to ensure that the requisite length of the third side has been rolled back to pass the 51% threshold?
It is not worth the possibility of a £10,000 fine to newly weds

Indeed the risk assessments and regulations they are required to comply with are mind boggling
I dunno why people are bothering to get married at the mo. I'd simply do the vows bit then hold a party in a year or two.
My dad turned 71 just ahead of his marriage, he may not have wanted to wait. Though personally I'd agree.

    1. Are they all seated in socially-distanced groups of no more than six persons or two households?
    2. Why are the ones who have got up from their tables not wearing their masks?

    Tsk tsk...

They arranged their wedding for August last year before covid and had to postpone it to this July and to be fair we have the OK for the Church service with 40 attending, socially distanced and with masks, and 70 in the marquee but part open sided and socially distanced tables

I really do wish politicians would stop pretending they do football.

    It's painful.

I hope Carrie let Boris use the settee for tonight's game.
If I'd spent £200,000 on a posh settee, I'd make Boris perch on the table.
The Bamfords wouldn't let him use his settee?
A wise precaution. Boris spilt red wine on Carrie's last sofa.

It's like recording or releasing messages on holy days - sometimes it's clunky as hell, but they'll get it in the neck from some fool if they don't do something, so they might as well.
I'd just like to see best wishes for the team and a congratulations if they do win - a bit of dignity throughout.

I don't like transparent pandering, still less terrible attempts to ingratiate with the electorate.
I'd like to see them go truly over the top. Not just the football, need to get in references to the Lions, the cricket, Raducanu at the tennis, might as well chuck in some commiserations for Hamilton for missing out on pole, have a nuanced discussion about the day's action at the Tour de France. Properly commit to it. Bloody politicians.

One imagines that there are a lot of other people in their position: the rules are a total pain in the arse but (a) they're fed up of waiting and (b) if they postpone again they're running into a flipping great wall of backed-up weddings, that probably means they'd have to wait anything up to eighteen months or two years for the next available rebooking date. Not fun.

At least. It could presumably have anywhere between 51% and 99% open (I assume there are some poles holding it up). Local authorities have tended to define "outside" in the same way as smoking areas, which have to be over 50% open.

The law is an ass and everyone knows it.

If they want to keep enhanced infection controls in medical settings then so be it, and the sick should be encouraged to stay at home. The rest of the rules need chucking on the bonfire.
And my sons wedding reception is in a marquee that has to have 51% of the sides open- and yes 51% is not a typo
Hopefully as it’s past the 19th those rules will no longer apply.
This is Wales with Drakeford wanting restrictions into 2022

2 local businesses are taking him to court for keeping them closed when their English competitors are open and trading
    Apologies and sympathies.

What an opportunity for Gareth Southgate to change how his name is associated with European Championships semi finals.

    Scene, the sem-final.

Southgate:"Alright lads, get out there, and remember why you're doing this."
    Kane:"For each other, boss?"
    Sterling:"For the nation, gaffer?"
Sancho:"For the love of the game, sir?"
Southgate:"What? No! To redeem my name, you idiots. Do not f*ck me on this!"

It appears to be the very same idea that endless lefties, including Labour leadership, have always rubbished.
Didn't Brown advocate British jobs for British workers?

I have always thought "buy British" campaigns a sign of lack of confidence.

It does actually seem as though SKS has no original ideas whatsoever.

Problems with the Union ... set up a committee chaired by Gordon Brown.

Problems with the economy ... buy British.

It all looks like a leftover fricassee recipe.
