The @sportingindex Commons seats spread betting markets have been trading today at record highs for the Torieshttps://t.co/4YkmMD4pUd pic.twitter.com/uErgV2qu1w
Overview of Notts seats - the blog is historically left-leaning and anti-Soubry, now less so, but after the playful discussion of the ex-BXP candidate this one is more about other seats and quite neutral in flavour.
Is this this week’s name for the Tiggers? At least we won’t have to worry about them after the election.
The week the Tiggers split off the betting had them halfway to government. Clearly they were the wrong Tiggers. (I find it really quite astonishing that they managed to turn all that good press into nothing in about a week)
Weirdly, I wonder if the bigger a majority Johnson gets the closer the relationship with the EU he’ll get.
I don’t want to sound all WilliamGlenn (heaven forbid) but not all his candidates are ERG’ers and I suspect he’ll end up wanting to compromise with the EU, and needing a cushion to do so.
On the other hand, if it gets a majority of just 10, he’ll have to genuflect to the Baker’s and Francois’s because the opposition will gang up to vote it down and he’ll need every vote.
It doesn't even beat Willie Rennie mucking out pigs.
But the policy is spot on, investment in youth clubs and similar activities that have been stripped of funding are an essential part of an attempt to reduce youth knife crime. Taking the piss out of how this has been presented shows that someone doesn’t want to see or understand the message.
Does anyone else remember swingback? Or does that only work if you have an opposition credible enough to be in the lead?
Swingback will be a prominent feature of this election, north of the border.
SCon to SLD swingback.
I doubt it although some recovery in the Lib Dem vote from the last time is surely inevitable. They did astonishingly well to get the seats they did last time out with the total number of votes received. Some of those votes might come from the SNP. On Brexit at least they are fishing in the same pool.

Hard to believe it was little over 6 months ago that PBers thought Chuka and the gang were about to spend a new dawn standing on the shoulders of giants
Corbyn's dream of entering Downing Street courtesy of some nightmarish LAB/LD/SNP coalition appear to be disappearing in a puff of dust. Sturgeon would dismantle him atom by atom if such a coalition was ever formed, he knows it, and his party knows it.

Although the SLDs have the wrong spokespeople, they have the right message (for their target audience): pro-Union + pro-Union. The Clown is selling a dud: pro-Union + anti-Union.
easiest bet for an almost guaranteed return. Most seats. Cons @ 1.07. Cannot be sure of a majority but is there anyway anyone can see Labour overtaking them?

I don't happen to agree with her position on Brexit and a few other things, but as a person she is a star. Love the GIRLY SWOT picture. Wish I could vote for her.

Some of us remember Rod Crosby too.
I wish we still had him now.
He was better than any of us at modelling and predicting elections and got both GE2010 and GE2015 right.
No matter how many times he was warned, he continued in Holocaust denial. Now that is full on anti-semitism, not the much milderstuff that is bandied about in the last few weeks.

Different times. Different audience. This seems a pretty good photo shoot to me and a worthy cause to be supporting (the venue not the Lib Dems ). I don't really see the downside for her.

If she was sparing someone would have been trying to hit her, which would have made for a more enjoyable photo-opp.
Not sure it was a great idea, but nothing like as bad as the photo ops of Boris and Gove from earlier this year, where they pretended to be out jogging. Rule number one is that if you are going to do that do not come sprinting back at a pace you obviously could not sustain and do not run with a style which most resembles the opening credits of the Benny Hill Show.

40% of Scots disagreed with that in the referendum. That’s a nice deep pool for the Tories to fish in and, at least in their own seats, they have it all to themselves.

Why is she wearing a “Girly Swot” t-shirt?
Again, without being subtle or funny, it’s just a bit juvenile.
Kinda ties in with the bollocks to Brexit meme. Juvenile.
I was told that the Girly Swot jibe comes up an awful lot in focus groups (and not just the ones run by the Tories.)
There's an entire group of women who generally voted Conservative but can be described as Boris sceptic, whilst Corbyn is the alternative Boris Johnson is fine, but I suspect Jo Swinson is playing the long game for the election after next.

Leaning into the casual sexism from Boris Johnson, co-opting it. It's a confident message. It works for me.
Allowing yourself to be labelled (literally) by Boris; I'm not convinced it's the wisest strategy.
I see where you're coming from, but I think it works. Like gay people co-opting "queer" or black people taking ownership of n----r. I do think it works. Wouldn't be surprised if Boris Johnson also tries to co-opt his own words whilst introducing some female candidate, leaning into his own words to try to defuse the negativity in having said them. It's the kind of thing self-aware joke he goes for.

Great point. The SCons ought to be ramming that point home on every doorstep, every street stall, every leaflet, every media interview and every PPB for the next month.

It is not quite right. Boris's comment was aimed at males, and intended to be insulting by implying that females are inferior, and so are those who do their homework. Ditto big girls blouse.

Yes, I was, you're right. But think about the soft conservatives with feminist stirrings. Boris is not an ideal home for their vote. Plus he used to slip in Hitler references in occasional posts. I bow to nobody in my admiration of @RodCrosby 's modelling skills and predictive power: he was one of the best we've ever had. But his Hitler idolatry did rather intrude. It's the Matthew Goodwin problem: good analyst, bad advocate.

On the day your leader is making wank jokes at the Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition?
Boris can pull it off, no pun intended. He can make a jibe seem fun and light-hearted.
This just comes across as irritable and passive-aggressive.
It doesn’t work.
It’s a disgrace when the UK PM resorts to such language in political debate it is neither fun or light hearted it’s disgusting. I can and do call corbyn a variety of names but I’m not PM, it political games of the worst order. The fact that he, in the end didn’t, shows it was a political ploy. How low can the man stoop?

It is good, although I have grudging admiration for anyone who goes in with pigs. I used to have an opening partner (cricket!) who was a pig farmer. His knees were completely shot by age 40 from large porkers leaning against him. God knows what would have happened to Rennie if that pig had taken a fancy to him instead of the other pig.

Ludicrously generous odds on Con. Should be 1/10 at the longest.
Majority ~21pp. Con down about 7pp in Scotland GE polling, SNP up about 3pp. Volatile seat, with three different parties winning in the last three elections. Personally, I'd not risk my money on anyone here. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see it fall.
