Are England fans talking up the soccer team to avoid talking about how badly the rugby team are going to demolished at the World Cup?
England were just fifteen bad minutes at Cardiff from winning a Grand Slam (if they'd won that I think they would have gone on to crush Scotland).
They have an odd fragility as we saw in Cardiff (and in the 2nd half against Scotland) but they are also the team that annihilated Ireland IN Dublin etc etc
I'd have England as 2nd or 3rd faves to win the World Cup. Not a bad place.
Currently 5/1-ish, as are ENG for Euros, in from 7/1-ish to 5/1-ish today.
The world rugby ranking has Ireland in 3rd, just behind Wales, well ahead of England.
That's nonsense. I think England are clearly better than Ireland, who have peaked.
The French are the dark horse (as ever). They have astonishing young talent (a bit like England in football). If the coach goes mad and unleashes it, they could win the whole shebang (god forbid).
This England team actually plays lovely football. And scores a LOT.
Very seductive
As good as anyone going forward. Still too vulnerable at the back. But this is an England team able to play precise football at high pace. We haven’t been close to this standard for a very long time. We are properly competitive.
Yes. I'd give us a sporting chance against any side in the world. Also we aren't totally reliant on one great player - Gascoigne, Rooney etc. This is a proper TEAM. We have stars like Kane but they aren't totally pivotal.
It’s high quality - and it’s only going to get better. We are or have very recently been world champions at all levels from U16 to U23. The investments the PL clubs have made in youth development are now paying huge dividends.
Yes, it's not coincidence. It's the same as Britain out-performing in the Olympics. We have finally worked out how to produce good sportsmen and women, and good team spirit.
There's a science to it, and we have copied the best, and we are prospering thereby. It helps we have lots of money, comparatively.
2019 might also be the year England win the cricket world cup.
Yeah, maybe - but I don't really consider it a proper World Cup since the stupid decision to reduce the number of teams and squeeze out the Associates.
I note that Bulgaria could only get a draw against Kosovo.
Luxembourg was a last minute own goal away from holding Ukraine to a draw. Instead Ukraine retain their 100% record against them. The team with most matches and a 100% win record against them is Russia (10 matches), but it turns out that England is second most (9 matches).
Are England fans talking up the soccer team to avoid talking about how badly the rugby team are going to demolished at the World Cup?
I'm confident that at the end of the world cup England will still be the only Northern Hemisphere nation to have won the world cup.
I think you are too hard on Wales. They are genuinely good. 14 wins in a row? Beat Ireland (easily) and England?
They have also beaten S Africa and Oz recently, all they need to do is get over their All Blacks hoodoo (or hope that someone else takes the Kiwis out first) and they could easily win the World Cup.
If England can't do it, I'll be lustily supporting the Taffs.
I hate the Welsh rugby fans.
A bunch of bigoted bellends they are.
It is all those years of being called a Nigel and told where to stick the sweet chariot has consequences.
Yes well your country gave us John Redwood as Secretary of State, so piss off, Nigel. xx
When we let Welsh people run Wales you chose Ron Davies.
Bring back John Redwood.
Just because he fancied the occasional unconventional shag, doesn't make him a bad person or a bad politician.
Awkward....He might not be getting quite so many invites onto the cable news networks in the forthcoming months.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan and Los Angeles charged attorney Michael Avenatti nearly simultaneously in two criminal cases Monday, unsealing complaints that alleged he attempted to extort more than $20 million from Nike and that he committed wire and bank fraud.
So TAKING BACK CONTROL is an attempt that could yet still fail, to control order paper for indicative votes that if one did squeak over line is hardly going to be ringing endorsement of way forward to take back to Europe, and in any case will simply be ignored by government if it wasn’t in the manifesto that won them government.

The WA part of May's deal is BINO anyway, and that's nowhere near a majority ! Simply because the PM's name is going to be removed from something or other that passes shouldn't be a reason for supporting it or not.

So ? Letwin is about a process that the Gov't said it would follow anyway. Still doesn't produce a majority for anything in the house.
The key requirement of the EU for long extension was indicative votes of what Parliament wants and taking part in the EU Parliament elections, whatever now happens today was the first step in extending Art 50 for years if not indefinitely, as confirmed by May today saying if the Commons will not vote for No Deal or her Deal it will have to be extension and participation in the EU Parliament elections

I don't know what it achieves, either.
Lidington's commitment was vague and very hedged, and didn't amount to much more than sort of unspecified debate later this week. Letwin is more specific in terms of process and timescale.
But the real significant is symbolic - that the government whip has been decisively beaten and MPs are now determined to take a greater role.

Essentially it enables the rebels to set the term of the indicative votes with a view to producing a convincing answer to the question, "We know what Parliament is against, but what is it for?" MPs didn't trust the Government not to set up a series of unlikely options to make the whole process look silly and easy to ignore.

Nope, it will be indefinite extension and we will probably never leave, provided there are Commons indicative votes showing what the Commons might agree and we participate in the EU elections the EU and Tusk made clear there can be a lengthy extension
The Commons can vote to mandate the moon on a stick for all the good it will do them. May remains Prime Minister and if she refuses to yield to the will of the house it only leaves two options.
One, the house tries to remove her government with a no confidence vote,. The ERG would hug her close and she would win. Or, if a squeaked loss, she remains PM until or unless an alternative PM could try for a confidence vote. Which puts us beyond the decision date for Brexit. Two, the Tory party tries to remove her. She likely clings on ignoring the deputation which comes to her outside a of party rules. Or if a squeaked loss makes her resign, she remains PM until a Tory leadership campaign is concluded. Which also puts us beyond the decision date for Brexit.
She can go on and on. Regardless of what her party or the Commons think UNLESS a majority of MPs suddenly coalesce around a unity emergency government OR the Tories do so around a unity emergency leader.
Looks like no news as usual. We are going to go on kicking this deal around as we basically have since November. Brtiain wants to be inspired. I'm convinced the economy would be energised with No deal.

What the hell is this fetishisation of the DUP? Either the ERG climb down or they don't. What the drum bashes have to say is incidental. Do they take the DUP whip, or what?
In effect, yes. And boy howdy do the DUP love it. Too much, since there probably won't be a Tory government for much longer for them to lord it over, but they just cannot seem to help themselves stringing them along, no doubt demanding huge amounts behind the scenes, and generally acting like they don't care what happens because their seats are almost all safe.
Some ERG people want to climb down but are too embarrassed to do so without DUP cover. The DUP probably don't want want to be seen as the reason others climbed down, so want others to do it first.
F. Other plan to block no deal More technically prescriptive than amendment C, this says that if the UK is seven calendar days from leaving without a deal, the house should be recalled to consider a motion on whether or not MPs approve such a move.

Stop going by what May says. On No Deal May is looking all ways at once. What a laughable position. What a laughable caricature she has become. What she rules out before lunch she rules back in before tea!
Truth is, when it comes to the crunch, there’s more clean brexiteers in cabinet, government, party than those that would stop them. That’s what the failed coup proved.
You are being proved wrong HY, Parliament cannot take control, and no one From this government will be allowed by their colleagues to fly to Europe and beg for that long extension.
For 329
Against 302
Government loses and Parliament will take control on Wednesday of Commons business and hold indicative votes on all the Brexit options

Happy days.

But the real significant is symbolic - that the government whip has been decisively beaten and MPs are now determined to take a greater role.
Control is power. The power is in the hands of people who if you don’t pass the WA will take us out with clean brexit. They won’t go to Europe with an indicative vote in their hands begging for long delay and soft brexit renegotiation.
This vote tonight is a hideous moment in terms of getting the WA passed. We are slipping out of EU in a fit of blinkered madness.

Do they take the DUP whip, or what?
- May prevented from running indicative votes, despite expecting to be defeated on the amendment
- May forced to recognise an effective parliamentary veto on any no deal exit
- The government doesn't appear to have made progress building support for MV3
- Loss on Letwin bigger than expected, coupled with more junior resignations.
Brtiain wants to be inspired.
I'm convinced the economy would be energised with No deal.
Didn’t Southam?
No point in the DUP propping up this pathetic government - GE here we come..
let me see how you feel about that when Corbyn unleashes full blown marxism on the UK and we become like Venezuela. It will make no deal look like heaven
Some ERG people want to climb down but are too embarrassed to do so without DUP cover. The DUP probably don't want want to be seen as the reason others climbed down, so want others to do it first.

More technically prescriptive than amendment C, this says that if the UK is seven calendar days from leaving without a deal, the house should be recalled to consider a motion on whether or not MPs approve such a move.
There really is no point in this government - let it fall.
As if on cue...
