If this is an islamist attack, I'm afraid we need to implement what SeanT has been advocating. Ban cousin marriages, ban the face veil, prosecute FGM, ban foreign funding for Mosques, close down salafi/whabbist mosques etc etc. We need to push the extremists out. We do the above and they will go.

I have been very reluctant to say this, but we clearly have a much bigger problem on our hands then we ever thought we would.

Dream on. The response will be: "Islam is a peaceful religion" etc etc, as is always, ad infinitum.

Again, I'm going to say wait. Something that destructive looks like an deliberate explosion but in any densely packed area any large bang accidental or not is going to cause damage.

Eyewitness reports really lack any thread.

You are right - it could be the stampede which caused the fatalities after a minor explosion. As ever, getting ahead of myself.
If you look at some of the walking wounded, no shrapnel, all lower limbs and bleeding ears so a people knocked over situation is likely. What we don't see is who is being wheeled out.

Credit to the cops they look to have made a tight cordon against media.
A sky reporter sounds like they have (seen) pictures of seriously injuried being treated but aren't showing them.

Went 2 see a gig on Friday. Did (briefly) cross my mind what a bomb in the foyer could do. Lost for words right now.

Awful news. I am really starting to feel on edge in crowded places.

I am taking my son and 2 of his mates to comic con at the weekend.

    Slightly nervous I must say.

Just seen dashboard cam film of the explosion - it does not seem to be a minor pop but a fairly hefty bang

How exactly are any of those going to stop maniacs with nail bombs?
Not at once, but over time it will reduce the problem of a section of the muslim society that is unwilling to intergrate. We will have fewer hate prechers which in turn reduces the number of incidents like these. They are not just "nutters", they know what they are doing based on a sick and peverted ideology, we need to stop the recruitment of that preverted ideology as much as we can. What we are doing now is not enough.

With my Life of Brian hat on, I can say that this is definitely either the Altrincham People's Front, or the People's Front of Rochdale.

    - a little levity to break the tension.

    @Floater

Unfortunately, the ideology of multiculturalism means we all must now live in fear.

My friend was on the Underground the other day and saw a guy watching Jihadi execution and recruitment videos via WhatsApp on his phone, brazenly, during commuter time. He naturally reported what he saw to the police.

    These people are everywhere.

I've been ignoring the Arianne Grande story and running some numbers on Scottish LD targets. Here are four of the five LibDem targets, looking solely at their Scottish Parliamentary elections, and looking simply at number of votes.
            Fife NE
    2016 14,928
    2011 8,437
    2007 13,307
    2003 13,479
    1999 13,590

    Edinburgh West
    2016 16,645
    2011 9,276
    2007 13,300

    Caithness, Sutherland & Ross
    2016 10,024
    2011 6,385
    2007 8,981
    2003 7,742
    1999 10,691

    Argyll & Bute
    2016 7,583
    2011 3,220
    2007 9,129
    2003 9,817
    1999 11,226
What's fascinating (to me) is that in two of the constituencies, they polled above the peak levels of last 18 years, and in another, they are withing a smidgen of peak. Even in the fourth seat, they more than doubled their total number of votes from the lows. If someone were to offer good odds on Scottish LD MPs outnumbering English ones, it would be a very interesting bet.

Though one wonders whether the bag searches are more commercial than security oriented -looking for drinks rather than bombs.

Its a paradox: giving people freedom of speech and belief means that their activities are out in the open, you can monitor them, which is what the security services do.
I think with something like this, you need to find out what happened and look at the causes. If dysfunctional individuals self radicalising themselves via the internet etc, then none of your solutions would work.
I detest terrorism as much as anyone else, I have no religion and particularly hate religious zealots, but lumping all Muslims together is very bad news.
