Just read that Mail article where GO repeats his lie
Oh for the glory days of master negotiator Blair and his root & branch reform of the CAP eh?
I am not as a rule a big fan of Blair, but you have to hand it to him, when he stretched the actualité it took people weeks or even months to notice, getting rumbled before the ink is dry feels a bit amateurish ;-)
Peter Hitchens on the supposed attempted putsch against Ed:
"Here’s another conundrum. A party leader is losing by-elections, is hopelessly low in the polls (as he has been for years), is daily exposed as having no serious policy on the EU (the biggest issue that faces him), recently nearly lost Scotland and slighted the Queen, and is directly personally responsible (thanks to his attack on Libya) for one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of modern times.
And yet he is treated with continuing respect, while his rival (whose problems are small by comparison) is constantly smeared in the newspapers and on the BBC as being ‘not up to the job’ and under threat. Please explain. I can’t."
Does anyone remember the 1980s BBC medical programme "Bodymatters"?
At the time it was one of the BBC's most popular programmes, but seems to have been completely forgotten about now, and there doesn't seem to be any footage of it on YouTube.
Just read that Mail article where GO repeats his lie
He insisted it was ‘not clear’ the £1.7m rebate was going to apply to the surcharge, which was demanded after a recalculation of Britain’s income relative to the other member states.
This is a lie or GO cannot read.
This was released by EU the day after the £1.7bn story
It is a personal foible of mine, but I tend to disregard anything that anybody says when they casually mix up their millions and their billions and their trillions.
It seems to be a particular failing of those on the left. Especially those in charge of money...
Has anyone Baxtered these terrible polls for Labour ?
You will not be surprised to know that in all of them EICIPM even the WI non poll poll
The Survation one has Lab 350 Con 241 LD 30
So these polls based on which this thread is suggesting that Ed will go, actually suggests Ed is Crap will become PRIME MINISTER ? Who would have thunk that ?

That's nice. The French having followed disastrous left wing socialist policies have all but destroyed their own country will be a net recipient while the UK following sound and sensible policies by the hard working public will be a net contributor.

M'kay ..... Only in the EU and leftie La la land.
It's the same redistributive principle that is applied in the UK.
The parts of the Union that are struggling are helped by the bits that are doing well.
@DPJHodges: When oh when are those right-wing rags the Observer and the New Statesman going to lay off Ed Miliband.
So the best source you can come up with is DP Hodges ? His article on the day Ed becomes Prime Minister will be titled: Ed Miliband becoming Prime Minister is not good for Ed Miliband.

Well I suppose the upside is that if or perhaps when Ed and Labour are elected in 2015 we will at least be a major net recipient for the next 5 years.
“If Alan Johnson was Labour leader: LAB - 33% (-) CON - 31% (-1)”
Based on this poll, it would appear that Alan Johnson is not the saviour, riding to Labour’s rescue that some people were hoping for – don’t suppose there’s been private internal polling done, aka Lord Oakeshott?
PBers should resign themselves to not seeing another thread until a week on Tuesday after OGH's celebrations of Burnley FC's first win in the Premiership since .... well since Ed had a decent headline in the press, are causing vintners in Bedford to run out of red plonk !
CON 29% +2% LAB 34% +3% UKIP 23% -1% LD - 6% -3% AP 8% -1%
Disaster for Ed
Yes because that's what all the major news outlets are focusing on isn't it?
Without looking further down, so I maybe wrong, it looks like the only poll TSE has not posted, despite it being realeased nearly an hour ago.....mmmmm....strange that?
Always wrong aren't you Compouter.
I posted it down thread.
That is why I stated "I maybe wrong"......not always wrong though.Did point our Labour were struggling in H&M.
It has to be said that Compouter here was the first to say, and give reasons for saying, that H&M would be very close, and that Labour would struggle. He didnt receive any credit for this useful info
This was without the use of any polling (the polling was wrong anyway in that it overstated Labour and understated UKIP by almost 10 points each), and based on inside info which he generously shared
So anyone saying he is "always wrong" is wrong themselves
@dpjhodges "So Ed's fight back this morning consists of promoting the EU. That'll cheer Labour backbenchers. On the doorsteps they hear little else..."
Its almost as if both Ed and Dave are falling over themselves to try and ensure the other wins the election. With the economy likely to finally come home to roost between 2015 and 2020 I can't say I would blame them.

He gets a bigger boost int he Survation poll where they showed them videos of the candidates first. Arguably that's helpful, since a lot of the voters won't know who these people are, but it also implicitly pushes them to rate whether they think they come across well on telly rather than whether they'd actually vote for them.
THE scale of the challenge facing Scottish Labour can be revealed after it emerged the party has one-sixth of the membership of the SNP.
Informed sources said the number of members currently sits at just under 13,500, a figure boosted by nearly 1000 new referendum campaign sign-ups.
The SNP tally has shot up from 25,000 to 84,228. The Scottish Socialist Party, which has long been in the political doldrums, has increased its membership from 1500 to 3500. The Scottish Greens had fewer than 2000 members before the referendum, but now have more than 7500.

Mrs JackW and I have enjoyed a few rays of late Autumn sun in warmer climes and both feel much refreshed for it.
I hope to provide the latest ARSE on Tuesday .... early indications seem to imply some likely shocked faced in the world of PB.
I used to get almost daily emails from the Labour Party asking for support or commenting on policy. They have stopped completely. The problem may not be Ed that is unelectable but the Labour Party.

Welcome back Jack.
That's a change in policy. Go on the Labour Twitter feed and you'll still get stuff more than once a day asking for support or commenting on policy. The party's decided that central email messages are old-fashioned and counter-productive because voters treat national emails as irritating spam - candidates are ecnouraged to do their own thing and it sounds as though yours doesn't have your email address.
Personally I no longer send an email every week like clockwork - I try to do it when I've something interesting to talk about. Email predictability is death.

I think it's interesting that no Labour supporters deny that ed will be crap and put forward a case to show why he won't be. It's as if all that matters is that he does become PM. I've yet to see any evidence of what he will do in the event of taking office. Everything is geared towards scraping over the line with no thought of what happens next. It really should be worrying for friend and foe alike.
Comments
Still leader at GE - 1/6
Not leader - 7/2
But hasn't affects his odds on being PM at Queen's speech (11/10)
Vs Base of current named leaders (Con 33, Lab 30, Lib D 7)
Instead of Ed:
David Miliband: Con -3, Lab +6 LD -1
Alan Johnson: Con -2 Lab +2 LD =
Ed Balls: Con = Lab = LD =
Yvette Cooper: Con = Lab +1 LD =
Typical ingrates - wanting what they can't have!
OA: -18
Con: -21
Lab: +3 (-10 among 2010 Lab)
LD: -28
UKIP: -29
Scotland: -36 - by some distance the lowest region rating (cf Ed friendliest London -8)

Clear on what he stands for: -45 (-14) [-60]
Strong leader of party: -52 (-7) [-66]
Up to job of PM: -46 (-9) [-61]
It involves an elephant doing a 'Blue Peter' in the studio.

Most of the shadow cabinet are unrecognisable to the public, but the ones that are (Mr and Mrs Balls) do worse than Ed.
Which does imply that it isn't just Ed, it's the whole lot.
The electorate is open to a Blairite candidate, not a left wing one.
Bit surprised this has reared its head again. Will Miliband survive to contest the election?
If you can't name anyone, we have to assume Journalists are making it up.
It is not the first time Journalists have been known to write lies !
When do yo want GE:
May 2015: 61
Earlier in 2015: 11
ASAP: 17
Notably a clear majority of Con/Lab/LD want to soldier on, and a clear plurality (47) of UKIP do too.
When should the coalition end?
Now - Con min govt: 19
Early next year - Con min govt: 10
Bitter end: 54 (again maj Con/Lab/LD, plurality UKIP)
Fixed term parliaments - good idea (net): +46
The parts of the Union that are struggling are helped by the bits that are doing well.
I think the only reason Tories are interested in Ed is to ensure his survival until the GE.
At what age did you first have sex - 15 or under:
Con: 11
Lab: 13
LibD: 12
UKIP: 23
They are also the least likely (10) to remember (OA 5)......
Well I suppose the upside is that if or perhaps when Ed and Labour are elected in 2015 we will at least be a major net recipient for the next 5 years.
