What a shambles the Labour Party is. Screwed up the country (at least twice) and now unable to conduct a simple contest for their next Leader.
I finally decided today to exercise my right, as a committed Tory voter with £3 to spare and a desire for a laugh, to vote for Mr Corbyn.
I went Corbyn 1, Burnham 2 (I think he's more unelectable than Corbyn TBH), Kendall 3, Balls 4. (On the basis Yvette last as she's the one likely to get Labour highest in the polls). Applying the same principles, in the Deputy Contest I went Watson, Eagle, Bradshaw, Flint, Creasey.
Such fun... :-)
You will make Putin, Adams, Hamas, Hezbollah et al very happy. Many of this country's friends will be less impressed. Let's hope that your vote and all the others Corbyn gets do not cause the UK any problems.
Doubt it. But if so, it will be Ed Miliband's fault not mine.
And that makes me even happier....
I disagree strongly. All those who vote for Corbyn own the resultant mess. And there will be a mess - whether he wins or not. Even if he loses we will have seen that a significant part of the Labour party has no problems with having as their leader a person with views as repellent as Corbyn's. That is a lesson which bodes ill for those of us who hope that such views could be cast out to the fascist fringes where they belong not circulating round the main opposition party.
Spot on. I can understand the temptation to give Labour a kicking - and the party certainly deserves it - but voting for Corbyn, for whatever reason, puts an anti-capitalist, anti-Western, class warrior at the helm of a party that got over nine million votes in May. That will register abroad and will have consequences.
As long as the Tories get 10 million or more votes, would it really matter?
I think that at the very least it will have an affect on perceptions of the UK.
I think it will have an effect within the UK. It will embolden the Islamists withi the UK, it will embolden those who don't want to take action against them, it will hearten anti-Semites within the UK, it will push other politicians to try and meet them in some way (the naive desire to assume that even those who are against reason, must somehow nonetheless be being reasonable and have a reason which others must seek to understand), it will embolden the enemies of freedom and liberalism within this country.
O/T Dan Jarvis seems to have come off the fence. He has written a report giving his views on why Labour lost the last GE and what it needs to do if it's ever going to win again. Needless to say Corbyn style politics is the antithesis of Jarvis's views. Fun reading for all, particularly those that think UKIP is irrelevant.
An interesting report pretty much entirely focussed on UKIP.
Not sure how useful it is as the recommendations are nothing new. Showing Labour are a party for the working man/woman, explaining the benefits of mass immigration, less career politicians, etc.
I found this sentence particularly amusing, "Labour campaigners report that conversations with UKIP - leaning voters are often among the longest and most challenging."
That is very interesting, as somebody involved in the election in East Kent it is very accurate and honest. However I see nobody within labour either interested in or capable of communicating a message about the effects of immigration on working people. The labour DNA has become overwhelmingly multicultural, inclusive etc which is fine if you're door knocking in London but not elsewhere.
'Labour invited them in, but the Tory Corbynistas gave their votes to the only one of the four candidates whose victory would have possible repercussions beyond buggering up Labour.'
What a load of sanctimonious nonsense, seems you are a really bad loser,it was the Labour party that made it a free for all and it was Labour MP's that allowed Corbyn to get onto the ballot paper.
If Labour want to be the Stupid party then they should accept the consequences.
All those who vote Corbyn are equally responsible for the consequences. Your vote counts for just as much as Nick Palmer's. And like him you exercised a choice. You chose to vote for an anti-western, anti-capitalist who shares political platforms with anti-semites, terrorists and declared enemies of this country. His victory will delight them and dismay our friends. What a giggle.
What friends, Mr. Observer? As you should know, the UK does not have friends only interests. Aside from that who do you think is going to take any notice? Nobody batted an eyelid when E Miliband was elected Labour leader, and him a self-proclaimed socialist, why should Corbyn be any different?
Because of the company he has kept and the things he has been saying for the last 40 years. Having him in charge of a party that got over nine million votes in May and which could, in theory, form the next government is going to affect perceptions of the UK as a whole, not just of Labour.
How many of those nine million people will vote for Corbyn-Labour?

But the Tories got over 11 million votes in May...
Britain is a country in which you can call terrorists friends and share a platform with people who applaud the deaths of British and American soldiers, and still make it to the top of a major political party that has a chance of being the next government.
20,000 is a very big number. I was expecting 4,000. 20,000 is a fifth of our migration limit. Will he be reducing immigration elsewhere to make way?
If you're British, poor and on a housing waiting list, you're f@cked.
Cameron, and others, think your worth less than someone living thousands of miles away.
I read an interview with Sadiq Khan the other day where he was defending his pledge to introduce discrimination against white people in the jobs market. He was arguing that white people should support because it would reduce crime. It's a curious argument to explain to white voters on the doorstep: non-white people should be given a job over you because it will mean they are less likely to rob your house.

Far fewer. He will be a calamity for Labour and rightly so - the party deserves everything it will get for choosing him. But when you are explaining you are losing. And Brits abroad - both in and out of government - will be doing a lot of explaining when JC becomes Labour leader. All those who voted for JC for whatever reason will be responsible for that.

Actually Cammo should send all the 20,000 to Scotland. Sturgeon is panting to receive them, she said so on TV a couple of days ago. Perhaps she should house them in what remains of the Gorbals.
@BBCNormanS: PM says UK will re-settle up to 20,000 Syrian refugees
Thats 4000per year then, as the qualifier is 20,000 until 2020.
I'm fairly happy with that. He's trying to give assurances that the numbers will be controlled over the medium-term and won't grow further.
At an average of 4k a year, it won't have too much of an effect on the net migration target either. Seems politically the best outcome that could have been hoped for to me.
Mr. Observer, you're clearly (and rightly) concerned by the prospect of a Corbyn victory. Is this going to put you off Labour?
Hell, yes. I voted Labour at the last election because I did not want a Tory majority. I still don't, but I want Corbyn in Downing Street even less. He is utter poison, even if he is polite.
'Labour invited them in, but the Tory Corbynistas gave their votes to the only one of the four candidates whose victory would have possible repercussions beyond buggering up Labour.'

The explanation is simple, Labour are full of idiots and their MPs are completely stupid. This is a Labour problem, shifting it onto the entire country is a bit much. I never voted for Corbyn, and I would never do so, the one candidate I may have voted for was LK, but she turned out to be Blair without the charisma so I didn't bother applying to vote. I don't see how Labour members electing an idiot like Corbyn falls on the rest of us.
Actually Cammo should send all the 20,000 to Scotland. Sturgeon is panting to receive them, she said so on TV a couple of days ago. Perhaps she should house them in what remains of the Gorbals.
Ten per cent of the population should equate to 2,000. But given the FM's fine and stirring words about not walking on by, I am sure she'd be happy to take more.

It's a most distressing situation .... for Mrs JackW ....
Shouldn't the outrage be that we have only killed one terrorist - lets get more.
One a day should keep it in the news - maybe those in certain 'communities' in the UK will eventually get the message that if they want to go and fight for the enemy then there will be a target on their back from the minute they leave.

Well quite. Sounds like a cover story for laying Jeremy Corbyn at 100/1 if you ask me.
No doubt more trouble with the German towel hooligans.
JackW, please be more careful with your intemperate language. You very nearly said the banned word, towelheads. I am shocked by your behavour, it must be that your missing wallet has affected you.

Not quite sure we're at civil war levels or are ever likely so to be.
The British nation has survived waves of immigration over the centuries and I don't doubt we'll do so again in a measured and reasoned fashion as in days gone by. It's our way.
My dear Morris, nearly everyone on PB says that the sport I love, golf, is boring. However, there is nothing more boring than the procession of F1 cars on the circuit, to me anyhow.
Why are the BBC even "reprinting" rubbish like this. Surely it must breach their impartiality rules.
The article quotes Merkel as saying that rules and instructions are now less important than flexibility in dealing with the migrants. Of course it didn't mention the compulsory sharing of migrant quotas.

What a pity that, after Saturday, it will not be possible to brief Her Majesty's Leader of the Opposition on matters such as the intelligence which prompted the govenment to authorise this drone striike.

Ridiculously, embarrassingly nerdy this... but I have noticed the BBC have a new camera angle in the HoC.. and I like it!
Looks like it is "SpeakerCam"... Bercow with a camera on a headband?
Yes, they've had that since the election - that view and the mirror view of the opp benches. MPs will need to be better behaved in the background of that shot!

I'd say the British Govt killing its own citizens via drone strikes fits that description adequately
The immigration over the centuries is not comparable with that of the last 30-40 years, that's just a line trotted out by the liberal elite.
(To be fair, the last one they published the other side of the story for 'balance'. I'm waiting for the competing columns arguing for and against whether Margaret Thatcher's body should be dug up and posthumously hung for treason.)

There are two new cameras, one each side of the Speaker at about his eye level. Look carefully and you can see them from the opposing angle, painted gold but with domed tops. They're run by the HoC rather than the BBC, part of the Parliamentary TV feed.

I actually got incensed enough to make a complaint. I'm sure it will amount to nothing...
This article is a disgrace, it puts across only one view point of this refugee crisis, it glosses over all of the negative sides to Mrs. Merkel's policy such as increased people trafficking and the dangers of indentured slave labour of refugees who disappear into the system. It is also painting a wholly unrealistic view that everyone in Germany supports more refugees and those who don't are fascists or Nazi's.
This is by far the most disgusting portrayal of people who don't support more migration and it should be retracted immediately.
The author calling those who accept Islam "enlightened" and those who don't some kind of underclass is also absolutely disgusting and should be retracted.
The article also fails to mention that just 30-40% of people crossing the Hungary-Austria border were of Syrian origin, the rest were Somali, Afghan or Pakistani - people completely unrelated to the current Syrian conflict.
The BBC must either retract this article or publish another "viewpoint" with an opposing viewpoint from a reasonable author, not Nigel Farrage.

Not as nerdy as noticing it a couple of months ago. It is actually a little disconcerting, we're so unused not to seeing that angle.
We may have killed our own citizens before, but not as a consequence of a policy that was warned against precisely for the fear of what is happening now
Mr. Nabavi, what a weird political world we might be in, when the Leader of the Opposition cannot be trusted to that extent.
He can't be though, can he? But here's the thing - the UK government is now going to have reassure our allies - and guarantee - that it will not be sharing info with JC before they will feel they are able to supply it. That is not good for the UK as a whole.

Poppycock.
The death of two British ISIS terrorists does not constitute civil war.
The "liberal elite" might just be correct. It has been known.
Erm.. As far as I'm aware Hezbollah and Hamas aren't actually enemies of the UK. Indeed, Hezbollah share our (declared) aim of destroying ISIS in Syria. And it looks likely Hamas will be fighting them soon, too. Enemies of Israel doesn't equal enemies of the UK.
Addendum (as @SouthamObserver beat me to it!!), further to stating the obvious: as PM what would your head of the security services have to say about briefing the LotO about his "friends", ie our enemy? That is the narrative that for Cam is unsayable but will be put out there..

Just forget them and stop paying the 'propaganda tax.'
"You can see that something is fishy when most of those who cross into Serbia enter January 1 as the date of their birth," border police officer Miroslav Jovic said. "Guess that's the first date that comes to their mind."
Personally I know where I'd rather live if given the choice between an area of Lebanon under Hezbollah and an area of Syria under the Sunni jihadist rebels which we have previously supported.

Hamas want to kill every Jew in the world. That includes British Jews. An organisation that wants to kill your citizens certainly qualifies as an enemy. It is also a designated terrorist organisation.
No, it will be Chelsea v Leamington. Effortless drubbings each and every week, without even the chance of an upset. EdM was crap, but we are going to have to recalibrate the word for Jezza.

British people are plotting to kill British people en masse as a consequence of mass immigration
Now the government are killing its own people to nip it in the bud
So I cant say that I agree with the liberal elite that mass immigration was a success, especially not when people at the time were warning that precisely what is happening now, would happen if it were allowed to continue
Still, the unaffected would rather people die that admit they got it wrong.
Personally I know where I'd rather live if given the choice between an area of Lebanon under Hezbollah and an area of Syria under the Sunni jihadist rebels which we have previously supported.

(To be fair, the last one they published the other side of the story for 'balance'. I'm waiting for the competing columns arguing for and against whether Margaret Thatcher's body should be dug up and posthumously hung for treason.)
He really has grown in confidence and stature since May. Good on him.
The death of two British ISIS terrorists does not constitute civil war.
The "liberal elite" might just be correct. It has been known.

Even Al-Qaeda are enemies of ISIS. Being against ISIS simply means you're not a member/sympathiser of ISIS.

"You can see that something is fishy when most of those who cross into Serbia enter January 1 as the date of their birth," border police officer Miroslav Jovic said. "Guess that's the first date that comes to their mind."
