I’m sure PBers will join me in sending our best wishes to JohnO who suffered a cardiac arrest earlier on this month, Esher and Walton Conservatives said last week.

    Cases only rising in areas where there are low rates of vaccination but running into resistance where people are taking up the vaccine to 95%+. I'd class this as an incidental rise in cases due to living conditions and the virus getting into communities that were previously faring well by just being isolated.

    My key test is Harrow, if Harrow starts to see an explosion in cases then we're in trouble. That's middle class Indians who have got higher vaccine uptake than white English middle classes. I'm really increasingly confident that this variant panic will become nothing in a few weeks.

    I don’t agree. A draw would keep them in the mix against Somerset. A defeat would see them out of the running unless they have a sensational last three matches, including against Somerset and Gloucestershire.

    The other day I posted about my slightly woke diet, incorporating a hilarious joke about the Sir Keir Starmer veggie diet being eating the kids goldfish.

    The point of the post was to link to a cartoon in the latest edition of Viz - a modern take on Mutiny on the Bounty where those cast adrift with Captain Bligh are being lucky about the food Fletcher Christian gave them in order to survive.

    As @Charles said earlier, isn’t the most astounding thing about that 18 point lead for the Conservatives with YouGov the lack of chat about it? On form, 12-14 points will become the standard. YouGov post a big outlier, which seems to attract the others toward it

    I see media outlets like Vice who are all pro defund the police are now up in arms that there are companies rolling out apps that provide real time crime awareness and looking to get into offering privatised police./ Security services....

    I mean who would have guessed that if the private sector think policing is going to be reduced and there has been widespread distrurbances ongoing in some cities for months on end, that they see an opportunity....and the rich will of course pay for it...like they do in South Africa.

    All these journos/former journos going holier than thou. I recon Boris Johnson, Julian Knight and the whole chorus of critics would have done exactly the same as bashir if they thought they could get the journalistic scoop of the century.

    Nobody makes me pay for the Sun, Mail, Mirror etc, and I never buy them, but I have to pay for the BBC so I can watch Sky Sports....

    If I know Dominic Cummings, his aim will be about as good as that of Hamas and with roughly the same concern for collateral damage.

    Interesting that @RoryStewartUK is so strongly opposed to tariff and quota free trade with Australia. I’d assumed that it would be possible to make it conditional on high animal welfare standards and subsidise environmental stewardship by domestic producers. Maybe that’s naive.

    The problem was Gove and Johnson took his ill informed BS seriously.

    So for several periods he was a mad bloke ranting on Twitter with considerable executive authority.
