Can any of the folks with medical experience tell me something. Is it impossible to develop an innoculation for Coronavirus? To give someone a small enough dose of Coronavirus to trigger the right immune response without giving them a full blown attack? Or once you've given it to someone have you just given it to someone.
Viruses are pretty small to begin with. What small dose do you have in mind? Inoculation doesn’t work that way.

Worth looking at the website to see the graph. His point is that whatever your risk of dying is in a year (which varies based on age) is pretty close to your risk of dying if you catch COVID-19.
So, roughly speaking, we might say that getting COVID-19 is like packing a year’s worth of risk into a week or two. Which is why it’s important to spread out the infections to avoid the NHS being overwhelmed.
It’s important to note that all the risks quoted are the average (mean) risks for people of the relevant age, but are not the risks of the average person! This is because, both for COVID and in normal circumstances, much of the risk is held by people whom are already chronically ill. So for the large majority of healthy people, their risks of either dying from COVID, or dying of something else, are much lower than those quoted here. Although of course for every death there will be others who are seriously ill.
Also, as Triggle points out, there will be substantial overlap in these two groups — many people who die of COVID would have died anyway within a short period — and so these risks cannot be simply added, and it does not simply double the risk of people who get infected. In an area and social group where male life expectancy is short, why abolish fun of every sort for party and pub goers so that middle class old people in Oxfordshire and Morningside can live a little longer in a care home at the cost not only of fun now ("youth's a thing will not endure"), but at the cost of millions of working class jobs and prospects, the world economy and future fun. None of the pointy heads are making that argument right now, and indeed I am not either, but it may have force in the long run.

I come from the libertarian end to, including having been a party member during chris Mounsies reign as party leader( devils kitchen) however I have to say I would much rather lock down for 12 to 18 weeks and sort this then relax with authoritarian measures than not lock down no and get more and more authoritarian for the next 18 months. I might be as close as you'll get on here. I would happily have voted for Trump over Clinton in 2016, and it's only in the last few months that I'd even be questioning that decision. I'd vote Trump over Sanders in a heartbeat, and almost certainly over Warren, but would take just about any of the other Dem contenders without thinking.
My credentials established, here's why he'll lose: - He got bloody lucky last time out and needs to do something special just to stand still - The Dems are VERY focused on beating him this time, and won't waste time on nonsense about him not being sufficiently feministic - A lot of Middle Americans are about to lose their jobs and the damage won't have had nearly enough time to unpick itself by November - Biden is, as a candidate, an order of magnitude better than Clinton - cf how much better he's doing against Sanders - The long run demographic trends in places like North Carolina and Texas are still very much against the Republicans, 2016 notwithstanding - Some stuff about voter suppression not being as much of a thing since the Dems took a bunch of Governerships in 2018 that I don't fully understand

Try and keep your phone near you and charged all the time, and don't have any qualms about either you or wife ringing for help from either 111 or 999 if yoo don't improve. Try and stay as calm as you can under the circumstances, and rather than fear, try and visualise an improvement and the infection being quietly but powerfully defeated. In marginal situations like this one mind over matter can make a surprising but important difference. Good luck and all the very best.

Northwick....the young doctors treating the cases are now patients....just like Lombardy.....except ours are less protected...the asymptomatic ones are exposed to the violence over and over again...and then they get very sick.....

To give someone a small enough dose of Coronavirus to trigger the right immune response without giving them a full blown attack? Or once you've given it to someone have you just given it to someone.
Viruses are pretty small to begin with. What small dose do you have in mind? Inoculation doesn’t work that way.

Now I have fever and the shakes etc. I prefer it with the shakes as it hides my breathing. No one wants this. It is frightening. What are we (my wife is laid up next to me) supposed to do with our 4 and 5 year old asleep in their beds? Who would take them if we deteoriate? God knows.
Very sorry to hear. Keep hydrated. If you're able to, make sure any important relatives or friends are aware of the situation by text and email. Try and keep your phone near you and charged all the time, and don't have any qualms about either you or wife ringing for help from either 111 or 999 if yoo don't improve. Try and stay as calm as you can under the circumstances, and rather than fear, try and visualise an improvement and the infection being quietly but powerfully defeated. In marginal situations like this one mind over matter can make a surprising but important difference. Good luck and all the very best.

Just in case you don't have any relatives or friends who you feel you can ask, send me a short email (nickmp1@aol.com) with your phone number and address, and I'll reply with mine. If you like, I can ring you every day at a time you specify (say 12 noon) and if I get no reply after say 5 attempts I can call 999 to ask an ambulance to come and see what's happening and help the kids if needed. Suggest leaving your door unlocked - risk of burglary is much smaller than the chance that you want someone to come and help.
Much better to have a relative or friend, just mentioning it as a fallback in case you're stuck. All the very best.

- Biden is, as a candidate, an order of magnitude better than Clinton - cf how much better he's doing against Sanders
- The long run demographic trends in places like North Carolina and Texas are still very much against the Republicans, 2016 notwithstanding
- Some stuff about voter suppression not being as much of a thing since the Dems took a bunch of Governerships in 2018 that I don't fully understand
