    The European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Act 2017 merely said "The Prime Minister may notify, under Article 50(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the United Kingdom’s intention to withdraw from the EU."

    It's not in Parliament's gift. Its got to VONC the current government and demonstrate support for an alternative.

    What gets me is that tents arent exactly cheap, nor are festival tickets. Many people go to several festivals. people must have more money than sense to just dump a £200-300 tent ontop of the £300 ticket and all the money spent on booze / drugs.

    This is a step on from this morning. This morning he said it was profoundly undemocratic but stopped short of saying whether he'd do anything. Now he's clearly ready to do something.

    One presumes he speaks for the entire Gaukeward squad. And I doubt that Boris Johnson can look for much help from the Scottish MPs now.

    Did he? I heard him this morning, and drew the inference he was prepared to do what it took. I imagine he has taken soundings, found others of similar mind, and made the implication more explicit.

    Indeed. Even proper tents aren't that expensive, my sleeping bag and my carry at both cost more than my tent.

    First reaction of someone I know was to criticise the Monarch, I was surprised as the person I spoke to is normally staunch in their approval of the Monarch. Boris Johnson has done the country a grave disservice today and added to the problems the monarch is enduring at the moment from across the Atlantic. If things turn nasty in the next few months it could be problematic for the Queen as she will now be a focal point of discontent….

    A thought/question.

    Suppose Boris loses a VONC. During the 14 days and prior to any other proposed PM winning a vote of confidence, can he put down a motion under the FTPA for an election (the 2/3 vote)? The act of doing so would, itself, surely split his opposition again. Corbyn might be tempted to say “ok”.

    Recently, but i bought a half decent one..but you are right, seems like you can get a crap one from go outdoors for £30-50.

    I really do not follow this. The Queen has the full authority to sack the Prime Minister. Her Governor General [ her representative ] sacked Gough Whitlam. Surely she wouldn't be sacking the Prime Minister on advice of her Prime Minister. Constitutionally, she could sack Johnson because of his hair cut, if she wanted to.

    It is part of his game plan if a VoNC were to happen. Cummins has thought this through.

    Power in theory is not always power in practice. The Queen has a lot of the former, not much of the latter. It could just be that the kickback in Australia after Whitlam was sacked emphasised that point to her. At some point, though, she may well have to make choices.

    To be fair, if Corbyn retires having seen the UK out of the EU, the UK itself broken up, the monarchy abolished and the role of government in UK industrial planning significantly increased - at least three of which are very possible now - he will spend a lot of time whistling very happy tunes as he works away on his allotment.

    But under Article 50 that is all that is necessary. Whether we like it or not the 2017 act made leaving the EU without a deal the Parliamentary approved default unless they legislate to pass a deal, extend or revoke. Parliament has to do something positive or No Deal is the result they actually voted for.

    Blair was irritating to me, and I thoroughly detested him at the time, but I could see he had talent. I could yet be wrong about BoZo, but I see zero leadership or managerial capability. He is marginally less repulsive than Trump, but even Trump claims some business skill. What is BoZo good at? Writing polemic articles on the back of a fag packet? Wow, the depths to which we as a country have plunged.
