Let's face it - the UK economy and world standing, the Union, the Tory Party, the British constitution, the monarchy. It's been the case for several years that none of these have any objective purpose whatsoever other than to bolster the career of Boris Johnson.
Key question: if she is going to resign, what is Ruth Davidson going to say? Is she going to be spending more time with her family? Or is she going to be firing an exocet at Boris Johnson?
The European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Act 2017 merely said "The Prime Minister may notify, under Article 50(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the United Kingdom’s intention to withdraw from the EU."
If the remain side want to succeed, they really need to form and execute a plan. They are being dragged into a cycle of reacting to what the Gvt does. One way or another, it’ll be a fascinating couple of months.
Obviously, the Queen has to do as instructed by the PM. The interesting bit will be what happens if he does lose a VONC and then refuses to stand down.

No point in resigning now without an Excocet. If this had been planned for a while the story would not be breaking today - it would have come out before this. Hard right, populist, English nationalism claims another Tory unionist victim.
What gets me is that tents arent exactly cheap, nor are festival tickets. Many people go to several festivals. people must have more money than sense to just dump a £200-300 tent ontop of the £300 ticket and all the money spent on booze / drugs.
That happened this morning. Causing me to have a nibble at 100-1 for next PM. Less likely than some others for a GNU.
This is a step on from this morning. This morning he said it was profoundly undemocratic but stopped short of saying whether he'd do anything. Now he's clearly ready to do something.
One presumes he speaks for the entire Gaukeward squad. And I doubt that Boris Johnson can look for much help from the Scottish MPs now.

Davidson, Major, Hammond and Heseltine just today. The Tory Party is not the same one it used to be.

Maybe she's going to seek a seat in the UK Parliament and is merely getting ready for a likely GE
So all those folks voting for "Ruth Davidson's Candidate" look a bit silly now.
So do all those Labour supporters who voted 'Leave'. If you tie yourself to the Johnson/Farage/Gove/IDS horse you shouldn't be surprised when you get covered in excrement

When did you last buy a tent? A festival pop up version is more like £30.

During the 4th through to the 8th of September you're getting continuation threads as I'll be at Old Trafford trying to get the Aussies to autograph some sandpaper.
God knows what will happen in this test, Ben Stokes has papered over our cracks in the England team, whilst Steve Smith has sandpapered over the cracks in the Aussie team.

Did he? I heard him this morning, and drew the inference he was prepared to do what it took. I imagine he has taken soundings, found others of similar mind, and made the implication more explicit.

Indeed. Even proper tents aren't that expensive, my sleeping bag and my carry at both cost more than my tent.

England have the psychological advantage whilst Australia have their best player returning.
A Mitchell Starc bouncer to Tim Paine in the nets would probably be the biggest blow to England's chances though.
I suspect the Queen is extremely angry about this situation
First reaction of someone I know was to criticise the Monarch, I was surprised as the person I spoke to is normally staunch in their approval of the Monarch. Boris Johnson has done the country a grave disservice today and added to the problems the monarch is enduring at the moment from across the Atlantic. If things turn nasty in the next few months it could be problematic for the Queen as she will now be a focal point of discontent….
Suppose Boris loses a VONC. During the 14 days and prior to any other proposed PM winning a vote of confidence, can he put down a motion under the FTPA for an election (the 2/3 vote)? The act of doing so would, itself, surely split his opposition again. Corbyn might be tempted to say “ok”.

Recently, but i bought a half decent one..but you are right, seems like you can get a crap one from go outdoors for £30-50.

I really do not follow this. The Queen has the full authority to sack the Prime Minister. Her Governor General [ her representative ] sacked Gough Whitlam. Surely she wouldn't be sacking the Prime Minister on advice of her Prime Minister. Constitutionally, she could sack Johnson because of his hair cut, if she wanted to.

Indeed it is not. The Conservative Party finally died today. It is now CINO. There has been a reverse takeover from the Faragists. Sadly Labour has also experienced a reverse takeover from the Socialist Workers Party. God help us all. Banana Republic here we come
"Ooh, look at me! I posted this on the last thread, and I'm so pleased with myself I had to post it on twatter!"
Brexit has sent TSE utterly insane. It is quite amusing really to see someone who used to be regarded as an informed pundit being reduced to such drivel.

It is part of his game plan if a VoNC were to happen. Cummins has thought this through.

Power in theory is not always power in practice. The Queen has a lot of the former, not much of the latter. It could just be that the kickback in Australia after Whitlam was sacked emphasised that point to her. At some point, though, she may well have to make choices.

Antony Eden has been enjoying the past three years. He used to be our worst PM. Since 2016 he’s been heading up the charts, he’s not in the worst three.

To be fair, if Corbyn retires having seen the UK out of the EU, the UK itself broken up, the monarchy abolished and the role of government in UK industrial planning significantly increased - at least three of which are very possible now - he will spend a lot of time whistling very happy tunes as he works away on his allotment.

He picked up a point I've also noticed - republicans in the UK are now cockahoop for good reason.

And if you doubt me, I point you towards the most important statement made to me in recent weeks by one of Johnson's closes allies: "My sense is that we will navigate the stormy waters better than the Remainers and somehow prevail in the mayhem, partly because we're used to navigating mayhem and because we're not incentivised in conventional ways.".
MPs are still playing by the old rules - almost as if they hadn't noticed that it was those same MPs who changed all the rules. They are reaping precisely what they sowed, namely their own possible irrelevance.

Activist-driven political parties combined with first-past-the-post does not a happy country make.
The European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Act 2017 merely said "The Prime Minister may notify, under Article 50(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the United Kingdom’s intention to withdraw from the EU."
That's just about it.
But under Article 50 that is all that is necessary. Whether we like it or not the 2017 act made leaving the EU without a deal the Parliamentary approved default unless they legislate to pass a deal, extend or revoke. Parliament has to do something positive or No Deal is the result they actually voted for.

Uber Remainers are a bit mental I think. Even more mental than Francois and co.
I don't know a single real person who actually gives a fuck about Brexit.
Is it really plausible that leaving with no-deal could occur during an election campaign? Surely the disruption just before polling day would count against the government?

BoZo doesn't have values, just ego.
oh a total shit no doubt
but so was Blair and he won three elections
niceness is a guarnatee of zilch
Blair was irritating to me, and I thoroughly detested him at the time, but I could see he had talent. I could yet be wrong about BoZo, but I see zero leadership or managerial capability. He is marginally less repulsive than Trump, but even Trump claims some business skill. What is BoZo good at? Writing polemic articles on the back of a fag packet? Wow, the depths to which we as a country have plunged.
Surely this just all part of Johnson's plan to force MPs to actually act and stop No-Deal, then he can say "I was committed to us leaving on Halloween but those pesky MPs stopped me!".

Boris is in power on the back of Blair. Blair is just leaving it to others to clear up the mess he made.
