    Colmbia 1.93
    England 2.04

I'm taking one for the team and betting on Colombia.
So who gives me my refund ?

4-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates in 2015. One of the few times I thought we actually had a decent team - built around Cazorla and Coquelin. Bellerin even scored that day. Seems such a long time ago now.

To throw some politics into the mix.

The Colombian team exemplified their country - lots of potential but easily lapsed into criminality and then failure.

Delighted that England made it through but they pretty much stopped playing after the scored and were on the back foot most of the time.

I fully get that England want a quick start and when it works, like with Panama, the match can be over very quickly but they also need to learn to pace the whole game.

Dier got the winning penalty but I thought that he was very poor when he came on. Henderson is just not creative enough and Walker is making too many mistakes trying to run with the ball too often. Lots to do if they are to make it further but this was the target and they have made it. Well done Southgate.

I am not into football at all and have not watched any of it. However, I am aware that back in 1966 and 1970 an all square position after the playing of extra time meant a replay a few days later. I don't doubt that there are reasons why the rules have changed - but the fact that they have surely means that we are not really looking at the same competition!

Agree about this game but England can play much better than this - let's hope this is a cathartic experience for them.

What an odd cookie you are.

I want England to win, but generally I want the best team to be victorious and thus if England are outplayed in a particular sporting contest I am content if it is a good example of elite sport.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who saved Carlos Bacca's penalty: "I did all my research. I've got power and agility. I don't care if I'm not the biggest keeper because it's about being there in the moment and making the save and I was.

"It's all about the set position and I got a hand to it. We knew we had this game, even if it had to go to penalties, we knew we were capable of winning."

I was actually being quite serious - and could extend my point to include rules re-substitutes and the nature of the ball etc. Once the rules are changed the old game ceases to exist. I am conscious that similar points could be made in relation to cricket , tennis and rugby union.

No. Though Kane is 1/4 favourite with six goals: Lukaku of Belgium is next on four. Betting advice: the third-place playoff is normally a high-scoring game.

I dunno. This average-to-middling England side (with, crucially, one world class striker) could be like Greece in the Euros they won. Just sheer luck opening up the draw, and then they shade the final.

It would be ironic justice for all the times England had a world class side which justified at least a semi-final place, and got nowhere, due to shite coaching and bad attitude.
Had Rooney not got injured I will maintain to my dying day England would have won Euro 2004.
