Which one of those is going to screw up and become a national pariah for a few weeks?
Jordan Henderson, I've seen his pre match routines enough times.
Funnily enough, he is the only player in this England team to have taken a penalty against David Ospina. He scored.
Which match was that?
4-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates in 2015. One of the few times I thought we actually had a decent team - built around Cazorla and Coquelin. Bellerin even scored that day. Seems such a long time ago now.
Of course, we will beat Sweden - then lose to the Russians with a couple of the most egregious VAR decisions that, in 20 years time, we will discover Putin sanctioned as payback for Salisbury.....
Delighted that England made it through but they pretty much stopped playing after the scored and were on the back foot most of the time.
I fully get that England want a quick start and when it works, like with Panama, the match can be over very quickly but they also need to learn to pace the whole game.
Dier got the winning penalty but I thought that he was very poor when he came on. Henderson is just not creative enough and Walker is making too many mistakes trying to run with the ball too often. Lots to do if they are to make it further but this was the target and they have made it. Well done Southgate.
I am not into football at all and have not watched any of it. However, I am aware that back in 1966 and 1970 an all square position after the playing of extra time meant a replay a few days later. I don't doubt that there are reasons why the rules have changed - but the fact that they have surely means that we are not really looking at the same competition!

I think I repressed that loss.
I know the feeling. If you asked me to say much about the hidings I've witnessed at Anfield I could only say Ozil and Bellerin are complete and utter *****. As for who did what, can't remember.
My friends are getting married on Saturday afternoon.
Do I go?
I've only known one of them for 21 years.
If they could ensure the ceremony is over by 2pm you can all watch the match over lunch. Will swede be on the menu?
In so far as I have any interest at all , I would be happy to see Sweden win . I think the Scandinavians are - on the whole - more civilised than the British.

Sporting competitions should be won by the most civilised? It'd be them or the Japanese every time then, surely?

Out of how many? If there's more than 21 years life expectancy to go, they'll have time to get over it.
She's 35.
What time is the wedding?
3pm.
Oh that's a shocker. Not sure the plan tbh.
I once didn't go to the marriage ceremony of a friend on Grand National day then hid in my car in the car park and joined everyone else to go to the reception.
Subtitles required for Jordon Pickford interview...I have zero idea what he just said about why he saved the penalty.
England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who saved Carlos Bacca's penalty: "I did all my research. I've got power and agility. I don't care if I'm not the biggest keeper because it's about being there in the moment and making the save and I was.
"It's all about the set position and I got a hand to it. We knew we had this game, even if it had to go to penalties, we knew we were capable of winning."

What an odd cookie you are.
I want England to win, but generally I want the best team to be victorious and thus if England are outplayed in a particular sporting contest I am content if it is a good example of elite sport.

LOL, you have to be a parody account
I was actually being quite serious - and could extend my point to include rules re-substitutes and the nature of the ball etc. Once the rules are changed the old game ceases to exist. I am conscious that similar points could be made in relation to cricket , tennis and rugby union.
Does Kane's shoot-out penalty count for the Golden Boot? Assume not.....
No. Though Kane is 1/4 favourite with six goals: Lukaku of Belgium is next on four. Betting advice: the third-place playoff is normally a high-scoring game.

Personally I try to channel all my jingoistic tendencies into places where it won't have negative consequences, like sporting competitions, so time to let loose and thrash those damn Swedes in the next round!

Jeez I hate watching penalties. Well done England!
Like many people of my generation Euro96 was my formative moment when it comes to football. Ugh it's rough.
Tough to call the next game, neither team much good.
Agree about this game but England can play much better than this - let's hope this is a cathartic experience for them.
I seem to remember they were pretty crap against Spain in Euro96 QF, going through on pens, but played better in the SF (still lost though, of course)
I dunno. This average-to-middling England side (with, crucially, one world class striker) could be like Greece in the Euros they won. Just sheer luck opening up the draw, and then they shade the final.
It would be ironic justice for all the times England had a world class side which justified at least a semi-final place, and got nowhere, due to shite coaching and bad attitude.
Had Rooney not got injured I will maintain to my dying day England would have won Euro 2004.

I suggest you take a look at the opinion polls for this September's elections in Sweden.

It just amuses me that all your posts give the impression of having just woken up from a 50-year coma

Southgate or May ?
Why didn't Vardy take one instead ?

C*nts. The World Cup is better for their flying home.

A very fair summary.
Isn’t it obvious that England are going out against Russia in the semis?
The Colombian team exemplified their country - lots of potential but easily lapsed into criminality and then failure.

I'll be doing her a favour by saving her from this marriage right?

The table is here -- you can mentally remove players whose tournament is over.

So I guess it hasn't been decided yet.
