My partner inadvertently shared a pic of the 'Proud to vote for Theresa May' on FB, so of course the same ad appeared on her page.
Guess what? She's started receiving abuse from members of her own family - including her sister. It's upset her, and I'm furious.

There seems to be a real lack of understanding about how sophisticated it is possible to be with email marketing from people (Paul Mason), who ought to know better. Targeted messaging wins elections these days and the Tories seem to be good at it.0 -

Sadly there has been far too much of it from the Left in this election and I find it disturbing. If youngsters think this is how democracy operates then I'm concerned for the future. The most left-wing Labour Prime Minister in history, and arguably their most successful in terms of achievement, was at the same time a gentleman.

Good afternoon from Ochil and South Perthshire. Delurking temporarily to say thank to all who have made this site and the comments essential reading as always during this GE campaign.
Tenth piece of Tory literature arrived with this morning's post (cf SNP: 2; Labour: 1; LD: 1). Tories are really going for it and my gut is they may do it here. Tasmina A-S not universally adored despite her talents as a self-publicist and media darling. Tories have run a vigorous and high vis campaign. Overall, am expecting a good night for them up here and a bad night for the SNP (in relative terms).
FWIW, here are my thoughts on the overall result:
Tories: 399 (12 from Scotland)
Labour: 183
SNP: 41
LDs: 6
Green: 1
PC: 1
Speaker: 1
NI: 18
Tory majority: 148. Theresa Imperious though undeservedly so after a shocking campaign.
Voted at half 9 this morning. Rural polling station. Elderly demographic. Steady, I'd say. Started persisting it down around 10am and forecast to continue doing so until 8ish tonight.
Enjoy the evening's festivities. Back to lurking now.0 -

As an experiment I posted a Conservative banner on Facebook yesterday (I'm not a shy Tory and never have been) and I got about 15 messages - 10 haughtily negative (lots of liberal metropolitan elite friends), 5 viciously aggressively angry. With one genuinely confused as to why it had appeared in her timeline.
How can it be socially unacceptable to share a political view with 45% of the population? Maybe Travel Junkie can enlighten me!0 -
I don't normally talk politics at work, but I was yesterday I was curios about tern out so asked a group of 5 of the young men who work for me, if they where going to vote or not. I thought that was safe as I was not asking which way there where voting. Dispite me explicitly saying I did not expect them to tell me which way they will vote all did 4 con and one Corbyn, and it started one hell of an argument. The Corbyn supporter clearly out numbered was non the less vocal and passionate. my fault for bringing it up, reminded me why I don't normally talk politics at work.ChaosOdin said:It all just kicked off in my office, a Corbynista became rude an aggressive (and had to eventually be taken to one side) when someone else questioned Corbyn's ability to negotiate Brexit.
The aftermath lead to a few first time Tories giving away who they voted for. If the office is anything to go by then some surprising Labour supporters over 40 decided to vote May to stop Corbyn.0 -

Anecdata
Three good hearted elderly WWC Labour ladies in a coffee shop this morning, all breaking the habit of a lifetime and refusing to vote Labour because of 'that terrible man'. The beneficiary of their vote (they are dutiful citizens who always vote) will be the LibDem, a very nice and well known local professional man who hasn't a hope in hell in a constituency where the Tory vote is estimated in tons rather than counted.
I wonder just how much of this old fashioned, 'respectable' WWC older vote will do the same, or just not turn out for Lab?
There hasn't been as much focus on the Corbyn Yuck Factor as on the Yoof craze.
The LibDems would benefit.
In 1945, LAB got most of the votes of returning servicemen. AFAICS their equivalent today including those aged 20-40 are almost universally anti Corbyn. OK, their absolute numbers are not vast but they all have friends and family, and what one might call the Help for Heroes demographic utterly despises what the Labour Party is reduced to under the Marxists.
I can see several reasons for a significantly depressed Labour vote, especially in the WWC north and Midlands.
Vote efficiency ignored in this musing.

My sister is a copper, she told me they were all ranting amongst themselves at her station yesterday about lack of police numbers and anti May rhetoric. She kept quiet and well out of it, one of her fellow sergeants who she is friendly asked her how she voted and she told her tory (postal ballot) she was ok with it, but agreed to keep it quiet.

It's an interesting one. I guess Thatcher(ism) became associated with self-centredness and even selfishness. More recently, voting for right of centre appeared to align you with a UKIP racist message, which clearly wasn't fair but who wants to give a whiff of such an assertion?DearPB said:

Theresa's manifesto was actually pretty left of centre but when your opponent implies that you are voting for 'the few' rather than 'the many' it's easy to see why you'd keep your powder dry until that secret moment in the ballot booth.
I think there's one outcome tonight that no-one seems to have predicted: a huge Tory majority. I can seriously see it happening and I'm worried that I'm only covered up to a 159 majority.0 -

Anecdatum: turnout in a Con-leaning ward of Stockton South (5k Con maj over Labour) is reported as higher already than for the entire day in 2015.
From an intermittent lurker, a vote of thanks to the posters of this site for all your wit and wisdom.0 -
Just voted in The Walk, Potters Bar (Hertsmere):
Polling clerks report turnout pretty good, a bit higher than usual.
I asked if many young people had voted. They said "quite a few".
Didn't sound like any big increase in the youth vote but rather turnout up a bit across all age ranges.
Of course doesn't matter here as very safe Conservative - though implies the Con vote is turning out strongly.0 -
I just voted for Tim (it's not a sin).
Mostly by process of elimination.
Give me a viable moderate party, headed by someone like Nick Clegg - or a non-nutty tory or labour MP & I'd vote for them without a second thought.
Politics has a huge vacuum in the middle right now.0 -

Betting on the big picture, I'll be extremely happy if Alastair M or Jack W's forecasts come true.
I hope the declarations aren't 'excessively fascinating'. 10s-100s of gains and losses either way makes me nervous of some constituency bets.
