No great surprise there. Despite years of sloganeering about "repeal and replace", an actual plan to replace has not been forthcoming. That leaves just repeal, which means millions lose coverage, and many, many lost votes.rkrkrk said:John Boehner says republicans will not repeal and replace Obama care....

And, they would be on the hook for €4bn a year of additional contributions to the EU budget if the EU wish to carry on spending as they have without the UK contribution.
They are just going to have to get used to the idea that the country that provided just over 26% of the net contribution in 2015 is no longer paying for them.0 -

The language issue is amusing, actually. When Britain withdraws, English will no longer be the first languag eof any EU stte (Ireland decided to go nqationalist and claim they only spoke Gaelic). That means in principle that there will no longer be any official translations into English (which would be very bad news for me personally as a translator), unless Ireland says well, um, actually we do mostly speak English (embarassing).
In principle this would be a nuisance for countries like Denmark whose politicians are very comfortable in English. And it'd be a big nuisance for business - probably an unofficial inustry in translation would spring up for anything with commercial relevance.0 -

I also fail to see how the UK leaving would automatically lead to English ceasing to be one of the 3 main working languages. Eastern Europe and the Med would be utterly opposed, as shown by the farrago over the EU patent court.

I have done no work wrt Stoke or Copeland and I have no idea who will win. On the wider issue, there's a discussion here:
http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/european-commission-rejects-claims-english-will-not-be-eu-language-1.2702734 It's pretty clear that English will still be used, but it's possible that it will swap places with Irish and only used for primary legislation. I hope you're right and this won't happen, though.0 -

Recent Town Hall events have been brutal for the GOP - I saw some of Tom Cotton's TH in Arkansas last night. People are very angry about the ACA. Midterms approaching.dixiedean said:
No great surprise there. Despite years of sloganeering about "repeal and replace", an actual plan to replace has not been forthcoming. That leaves just repeal, which means millions lose coverage, and many, many lost votes.rkrkrk said:John Boehner says republicans will not repeal and replace Obama care....

Continued use of English by the EU after Brexit would presumably be cultural appropriation, if done without our permission. We should charge a licence fee of, oooh, £365m a week if they want to keep it.

Oh dear, sorry to hear of your woes. Wuss away!!viewcode said:I have had a shit week this week: I was working late on Job One every day and I was freelancing last night until 4am, so not in good mood. I have done no work wrt Stoke or Copeland and I have no idea who will win. As I have no position to hedge (it's not going to move GBP) and I have no idea who's going to win, there's no point in betting. So I won't be betting on Stoke/Copeland, so apologies for being the wussiest wussy wuss that ever wussed. I hope you all win money tonight.

I think he predicted 650 Con MP's in the last GE. I think he probably forgot the Speaker...AndyJS said:I understand JohnLoony is predicting an 863 vote Labour majority in Copeland.

It appears that people really didn't realise that Obamacare WAS the ACA. Which politiically is obviously what the opponents wanted when the coined the term. They should probably just declare Obamacare "dead" and leave the ACA in place!AramintaMoonbeamQC said:
