In terms of worst defectors in history, I'd place MacMillan-Scott up there with Quentin Davies, Guy Burgess, Kim Philby, Judas, and Mark Reckless.

Edit: I'm being a bit harsh by having Judas in that list, after all he had the decency to hang himself after his betrayal.
According to wikipedia, Reckless is the subject of several thinly-veiled anecdotes in Appel's satire, The Man Who Wouldn't Stand Up -- about a baseball player who refused to stand for the national anthem. Life imitates art.

Why would those 3 need paid? More likely to be contributors. On the other hand having a list called "voter suppression" seems a tad unlikely at the risk of understatement.
  • ... what does voter suppression mean?
They put the voter under a big door and all those people mentioned stand on top. Obviously the more weight you can donate the higher your fee. :-)

    TSE,
When I commented earlier I was simply reporting what I had picked up from the UKPR site. However, I have now taken the trouble to look at the tables provided myself. It does specifically refer to 'Voting Intention' in respect of which there are weighted and unweighted data. Perhaps you would like to take a look yourself!

  • Incidentally with Sarkozy drifting to 7/1 on Betfair it is possible with Juppé at 5/6 to take Les Republicans at an effective 1.5, which I think it very strong value. All the polls - Juppé easily and Sarkozy just - suggest a victory.

If that list of payments is genuine then it's a big story, but it doesn't smell right somehow.

Why the Clinton Foundadion charity, when most of her incoming donations are to her PAC?

That begs the question of whether Theresa May feels very strongly about the EU one way or the other. She said even less during the referendum than Jeremy Corbyn.
Whatever Mrs May's personal feelings about it, she took on the job of implementing a decision that is extremely unpopular in government/parliamentary/civil service/big business circles.

She's surrounded by people who are really keen to see the Leave decision negated. If a rapid clear-out of staff gives many other entrenched careerists cause to change tack, maybe she had reason for what seems brutal.

    I don't know.

Back yesterday! Actually other than literally everyone being bored of both candidates, not nationally. In California my strong feeling was that Harris would defeat Sanchez in their senate race, but that is a blue-on-blue campaign (and there doesn't seem to be a market up for such a niche thing).

I think it's BS. Why? Because it is just too perfect. If you had asked what would be the perfect piece of evidence to incriminate and destroy Clinton this would be it. I just don't believe anyone would be daft enough to make such a list.

If you actually read the so called Podesta Catholic leak it involves two staffers - not Podesta - making some pretty innocuous speculation on why some monied conservatives might have converted to Catholicism. One of the staffers is apparently Catholic herself.

Interesting: "She said whether Britain would get access to the European single market depended on whether it accepted the EU's four freedoms, including the freedom of movement of people.

"If Britain says no, it can't get full access to the European single market," she said."

    https://uk.news.yahoo.com/britain-cant-full-single-market-access-free-movement-122452993.html

    My emphasis.

That says to me that there may be partial access to the European single market for partial free movement, and budget payments.

My gut instinct tells me that the line of negotiation here might look like free movement for high-skilled EU workers, with a job offer, plus £4-6 billion of EU budget payments a year in exchange for some services and financial services access, but not all.

Well, that's what the member states might try to come to some agreement upon. Give or take.

The EU institutions will try to push for hard Brexit, or no Brexit, in my view. And the whole thing could still collapse into a hard Brexit - but probably including free trade in goods, which sholdn't be a problem to agree - if there is no agreement by default.

Tusk is on record as saying the choices are Hard Brexit or No Brexit.

The payment by the Clinton campaign to the Sharia Law Centre is so that they can send "observers" to the polling stations. You'll be able to recognise them because they'll be reading the New York Times and wearing burqas. Any intending voter who doesn't know the name of the Prophet's mother won't be allowed to vote. I learnt this from Roger Stone, Mike Ledeen and Steve Bannon.

    By the way, it's "Amina".

It is ours as much as it is the EUs. If either side want a hard Brexit that is what will happen. If both sides want a deal that is what will happen. What definitely won't happen is Tusk or Juncker having a veto, nor any real influence, on what sort of Brexit we get.

Because the notion of Trump as POTUS is even less credulous than the notion of Corbyn as Labour leader. At least with the latter we fully expect him to be replaced before the next General Election. If we were just weeks before a General election in the middle of the campaign I rather suspect Corbynites would be responded to differently.

PB is at its worst when it seeks to shut down or pick on those who are promoting unpopular views. We seem to be getting to that stage once again.

Plato is posting stuff from the Trump camp. Some of it is total crap. Some of it is interesting. On this side of the pond it is bloody hard to work out which is which. But picking on her for doing so is just silly. This stuff is playing loud in the US and influencing some voters. By no means a plurality but a significant number. Don't we want to know about it?

I've rarely agreed with Plato, but I think the forum becomes boring when we slag each other off. We don't really know for sure how the US election will turn out, and it's fine to have some pro-Trump people here like Plato putting their best case. If we don't agree with it, we don't have to, shrug.

    *runs and hides*
    :)

Most of my train travel used to involve walking. Do a day's walk, get a train back to my car, and then drive to a B&B. Rinse and repeat. I did all the North Downs Way in that manner.

Walking can be a really expensive hobby. Not just in the kit you carry, but also in the B&B/hotels, drinks / food and general merrymaking. It's also a good way to meet women. If they're not repelled by beards and the smell of having been unwashed for two weeks, you're in luck ...

No - there's too many to list where you make pussy remarks and cite me without any other relevance. It's dead easy.

    Just stop doing it.

So many to list .... but you can't find one single solitary "creepy" post to support your spurious allegation.

And you're usually so good at posting links. Anyone might think you made it up ?!?

    Absolutely nothing.

    +1

It's no more crap than SeanT's attempt to use the plot of the 1960s Zulu movie to prove that Brexit will once again enable Britain to rule the world. At least there are some (misguided) people in the US who agree with Ms Plato.
Ah but Zulu is a classic and proves beyond all doubt that Brits can rule the world (if that is ok with all the other countries).

Talking of which saw Apollo 13 tonight for about the 20th time. Not made it through without tearing up yet. Just epic.

    Chill.

I made the same point a few days ago. It's what people actually believe that affects the vote, thus the outcome and importantly whether a bet is successful or not. Simply ignoring or rubbishing the information misses the important point.

It's out there people who vote read it and make a judgement. It matters not what we here on PB think or believe, can prove or disprove it's what the the average US voter does and I suspect they don't go into it in the same depth as is done on this site.

A dramatised version of how a couple of hundred people with rifles can fend off a few thousand natives with spears proves that fifty years ago we could make a good film.
  • I know. I was there when they turned off the lights.

    Oh, not that Acorn. :)
I went through uni using a RiscPC. Still my most fondly remembered computer. I sold it on at a profit a few years ago after it had been gathering dust in the corner of the room for a while.

Actually bought a Raspberry Pi recently in order to run RISC OS, but haven't used it much.

I've rarely agreed with Plato, but I think the forum becomes boring when we slag each other off. We don't really know for sure how the US election will turn out, and it's fine to have some pro-Trump people here like Plato putting their best case. If we don't agree with it, we don't have to, shrug.

With which I would agree entirely.
(& something. very similar apples to the SNP posters on here.)

It's when Plato complains about the shrug, as she has repeatedly, that she loses my sympathy.

Thank you. What I do post is the post popular stuff I see and read.

I'm guessing bar the two Tim's - I watch and read more US media than almost everyone here - so... feel free to dismiss what I post to feel superior - or note it.

I watch all the main political shows, rallies, activist site videos and read hundreds of Twitter posts. A day.

I'm very engaged - but clearly a troll because some don't like stuff. Seriously? I do wonder what PB has become here - do you want information or just pile on?

B&Bs in Kent don't have bathrooms? Or you weren't in the right place on the designated bath night? In which decade (century?) was this?

I'm a life long atheist, but have many Evangelical friends - they're really good people even if I don't get their faith. It's really impressed me.

I detest the Left's desire to tear it down because somehow The State should replace it.
Socialism and humanism are basically a Christian heresy, hence its intolerance of Christianity.

The difference is that Christanity sees charity and assisting the poor as a means to a end - the end being successful transfer to heaven in the next world.

Socialiam and Humanism try to create a utopian heaven here and try to abolish all suffering in this world because they dont believe in the next and end up creating more misery than ever.

    You.

    Post.

    Lies.

And then either ignore people who point out you are posting lies or get huffy.

In my garage I've got a development board with the first ever 32-bit build of RISC OS on it. The board was called 'Lazarus', and unlike it's namesake, the project died. :(

We went through a biblical phase for naming projects: Lazarus, Bethany, Martha.

This post has nothing to do with politics or betting.

Interesting. Americans much more positive about diversity than Brits, gives me hope.

but I mean what on Earth would that mean here, they're paying to suppress Glenn Beck? Or to have him suppress other people? Not sure he's the Democrats #1 fan...
Well that leak is obvs. false.
