Question - even if Corbyn does go, is there anything stopping him from standing again? This is going to end up in a bloodbath for the Labour party. Could they become extinct as an effective political party, like the Limp Dims?
It's not even that complicated. If he chooses not to resign after the vote of no confidence, he is automatically nominated for the membership vote, complete with all the £3ers from last time.anyone standing against him needs nominations as was the case last year (15% I think, so 38 MPs)
In contrast to the Tories, where a vote of no confidence forces the leader's dismissal, there is literally no mechanism for getting rid of a Labour leader that doesn't wish to resign.
''Yup - every buyer will be thrilled and the sellers even more ecstatic at taking a big loss. In post-Brexit Britain everybody is just ticketyboo. ''
Many conservatives are home owners of long standing who would be prepared to accept a 15% fall if it meant their sons, daughters and younger work colleagues had a chance to get on the property ladder sometime soon.
because otherwise the banks are jjust going to ask them to guarantee the mortgage or give their kids the large deposit.
There really are no words for how much of an omnishambles the Labour Party is in at the moment. Quite possibly the worst display of party unity in either of the big two parties since... well, ever..
It's an incredible display of disunity from the seven who haven't yet gone.
Have just rejoined the Tory party. I may not qualify but having been a lapsed member maybe I will... if so I shall be voting for the least bad option so ABB.

If you like what Brexit is doing to the pound and the stock market, wait until it gets going on house prices. That's when Boris gets strung up from a lamp-post.
Yes please, at least 25% needs to come off London prices...
I agree, popping the bubble would be great. The voters, however...
Not many voters among overseas hot money and BTL landlords.
BTL landlords vote. More importantly, so do other people who like watching their asset values grow as the go up the ever-inflating "housing ladder".
So do their tenants who hand half their salaries over to them every month and there are rather more of them.
This is a lulu for george. He needed the house prices to crash as incresing renting was helping Labour, now he has something other than himself to blame the crash on and we will have years of wailing bankrupt buy to let land lords who speculated on ever increasing house prices with borrowed money.

you may find you have missed the cut off date to vote. I seem to recall at the last leadership contest only people who were already members prior to a certain date could vote to stop manipulation of the result by outside forces. Labour could have learned from that!

And many Conservative voters are/were people who have been encouraged to save up a (huge) deposit to get on the housing ladder in the last 10 years. Probably not going to be overly chuffed at seeing their investment scythed in value, neither are the parents who have paid out large deposits to get said sons and daughters going.
Rather doubt many people are going to give two hoots about their younger work colleagues housing situation.
House prices aren't going to fall (sadly!). We have a severe housing crisis caused by too much demand and not enough supply, plus a weak pound makes housing cheaper to buy for foreigners
Plus a country with a permanent balance of payments deficit probably needs inward money flows for ever ...

Well, yes, quite.
I thought Brown hanging on in Downing Street for as long as he did after the 2010 election was impressive, until I saw Jeremy. He'd probably be walking away from Brutus and the other conspirators, shrugging his shoulders and telling everyone it was just a scratch...
Question 8 is also bonkers. Only 41.6% of people voted No in the last referendum (as opposed to 44.9% who voted Yes)!!!
Once again the polls need to be treted with caution. JK Rowling would strongly consider voting to leave. It is over methinks.
There's a difference between strongly thinking and actually doing.
Also, this is bubble talk. Sure, all my No voting friends are talking about changing vote if there is IndyRef 2 but all my friends are highly politically engaged middle class professionals. Try are not the general population.

Drops in house prices relative to incomes are needed, but negative equity does rather spook the market. I remember the early nineties well.
In London and the SE there may well be drops in incomes as fast or faster than house price drops, with the slowdown particularly in financial services.
A lot too depends on interest rates. Lower prices but higher borrowing costs do no favours to anyone.

indeed, mention of 3 months too but:
1. I'm on their mailing list locally still and a lapsed member 'coming home' so might help. 2. It's worth a go - £25 to potentially stop Boris, Davis or Fox is worth it.

I like what Brexit is doing to the pound. Keeping the pound artificially low and boosting UK manufacturing industry, a bit like the effect of the Euro on German industry. Here in the West Midlands that's a good thing - about time we rebalanced the UK economy away from financial services.
As for house prices, I recall that Osborne tried that threat for a day or so and then didn't mention it for the rest of the campaign. Funny that.
A plunging pound is not that good for manufacturing as the cost of imported raw materials goes up.
Costs of fuel too.
To do the sum for you, Dr Fox.
Say we are exporting widget A to the USA. Our costs are $10 for the imported oil and $10 for the imported raw material (both sold at $ prices on the international markets). The labour is GBP20 at GBP1 = US1.50. So labour costs $30. We sell for $80, our profit is $30, or GBP20
The GBP falls to 1 = $1.00
Now our imported fuel costs $10, our imported raw materials cost $10, our labour costs GBP 20 which is now $20, we sell for $80, our profits are $40, which is now GBP40
Profits have gone up, whichever currency they are expressed in. At the cost of the labourer who can now buy fewer imported goods.
Have just rejoined the Tory party. I may not qualify but having been a lapsed member maybe I will... if so I shall be voting for the least bad option so ABB.

Good - this is a battle for where the Tory party now 'sits' - does is stay a one-nation one or move to the right.. I'm at least trying to have a say in that.
So let me get it right. The stock market is back where it was a week ago and the pound v dollar is back, give or take a cent or two, where it was in February.
I feel cheated. Where is the big panic with the FTSE down two thousand points I was promised which would have allowed me to buy shares at price to dividend ratios above 10%.

Seriously, given the proportion of the PLP who'd presumably refuse to serve (and a fair number of others who'd like a fortnight to see where the cards fall), there must come a point where he has to leave at least some of the junior vacancies vacant.

His three priorities are Resignation, Resignation, Resignation
For those asking about Mervyn King, the BBC has some soundbites up of his interview with Laura K.
I recall when Mervyn said he wouldn't rule out voting Brexit himself. That's a killer intv with him re Treasury scaremongering, nonsense emergency Budget and on and on.
time for a new name TSE - both of the screaming eagles have flown the nest!
Mr. Felix, When I first started reading this site young Darth Eagles posted under his own name. Then, for professional reasons, he chose a nomme de plume like most of us. However the name he chose was objected to by some, especially the lady posters (of whom there used to be a lot more in those days), so he changed again to the TSE that we know and love today (though I think that originally he had the name in full).
So let me get it right. The stock market is back where it was a week ago and the pound v dollar is back, give or take a cent or two, where it was in February.

cameron's havin' a laugh.
Didn't Steve Hilton say Mr Letwin was in favour of leaving the EU?
"When the referendum comes, provided the we can negotiate a settlement that is good for Britain, then I will campaign strongly for it because I believe that Britain’s national interest is best served in a reformed, flexible, adaptable and open EU." - Letwin website

Labour, the Left - they are the State. Labour is the party of the state, by the state, for the state. They live and breathe the bubble and establishment air. And in world where 'there is no money' and the electorate have just told the establishment to eff off what is the point of them? The Islington/Venezuela/IRA side are as electorally attractive as Eddie Izzard in the nude. The 'sensible' side are all empty, mindless, droning statists who despair of the dreadful 'people'. When Corbyn won the leadership what did any of the other candidates say? Precisely nothing. They have no vision or morals. What possible attractive and sensible direction can they build on any of that? Politics is fundamentally realigning and Darwinian principles apply to parties that are not fit to survive in the new anti-establishment world. Labour manifestly hate the English. This is going to be reciprocated.
Dave is toast because he forgot which party he works for. He forgot which nationality the people of this country are and what they think and feel. If he ever cared.
if jezza survives he will at least have his 'own' team in the cabinet finally.... if so, then he's got a great chance of staying on after this huge rebellion by the plp? maybe thinking just get to chilcott...
