Cripes, I've got 50 quid on trump I intended to trade out after the convention bounce but I might take my break even point now an be done with it.
I'm thinking about doing exactly that.

Serves me right as I raised my eyebrows at Robert a couple of weeks ago for trading out at 3.4 (or something like that). Would that I had seen such sense.

Quite. These arguments from the "Remain" audience members would be the best motivator for traditional Labour voters to go "Leave".

That said, Farage is coming across terribly ("just calm down a little there").

I believe one of the big bangs Remain will deploy in the next 15 days, will be the NHS staff, and the medical industry will be coming out for Remain, very heavily.
We'll see what happens with that.

I get the impression that Cameron has let loose the dogs of war and was expecting to see the Leavers vanquished already. They're not. I wonder how much he has left. We know he has Legarde, and must have others but how much?

This was never going to be easy for Farage. Many in the audience (including the woman who presumes to speak for Black Britons) just want to attack him.

It's clear why Cameron refused a head to head debate.

I'd imagine that EMA (European regulatory authorities) would probably move to the EU - but most of the continent still look to NICE for the QALY analysis anyway which is arguably more important. We'd just staff up our own approval authorities though - unless we simply entered into an agreement with the EU to maintain the Mutual Recognition Proceedure (which would make a lot of sense)

He's doing just fine. Calm down. He's assisted by a geeky middle class Londony audience who will annoy average Brits.
He needs to find a more polite (Gove) and less aggressive (Farage) way of disagreeing with audience members.

Nigel Farage definitely out of his comfort zone when dealing with an audience that is not made up of the Ukip party faithful. I thought he was very patronising towards the first two young ladies that asked him questions, and to the point of talking over them, not attractive in a politician. Also his sneering attitude towards EU opponents may work on the floor of the European Parliament, but it did not come across well in this format considering the importance of the debate.

The issue for pharma companies in Switzerland (an important sector in that country) is that drug trials have to be done in the EU for EU certification and that's the biggest cost for them. If they are certified in the EU they are valid for Switzerland. Switzerland wanted to negotiate a new bilateral , which would allow cross border certification but the EU stopped talking to Switzerland years ago.

Just in case people are wondering what is happening in America - Trump continues to get the worst possible options on his Trump University scam court case, keep it in the news cycle and get a swathe of Republicans who have endorsed him to openly call his statements racist.

Just in case you are wondering why his price is drifting.

    Trump U is a complete non-issue here.

At least it would be if Trump would stop talking about it. Criticising the judge's rulings etc is fair game, but attacking the judge personally is really really dumb. Even Newt said it's the worst mistake Trump has made.

Trump needs to shut up about it pronto and move on to immigration, the economy etc which are winning issues - calling the judge's heritage into question is not.
The anxiety, if one has money on him, is that if he is mishandling this what else will he mishandle between now and November.
It's an anxiety even if one doesn't have money on him!
    hehe ;)

I get the impression that matter what the result, we are in the twilight months of Cameron's premiership.

Question from someone with little to thank the current system for. Cameron has no real answer.

No Dave, GDP doesn't matter. GDP per capita matters.

Trump is screwed whatever he does. He is finished.
It's way too soon to say that - but this doesn't help him any, that's for sure.

Sorry Leavers but Farage has made a total clusterf of this one. "Calm down"; "Alternative medicine is good". Blindingly bad IMHO.

20 years he's waited for this? What happened to the full throttle attack on the elite and focus on anti-politics?

I'm not watching it myself, but using the PB Leave anti-barometer I'll assume Farage was dismal and Cameron is playing a blinder.
Cameron so so. Rarely challenged like this and people seem genuinely angry in the audience.
  • When you read the commentary on a real life live event here without watching it, you can rapidly tell who is trying to be reasonably objective and who tbe partial remain shills are (although a good slew of them have gone off the site in a huff since tbe weekend)

I think lots of people watching would have found the questioners annoying.
I did, for the same reason as I found Faisal Islam (even more) annoying. When people ask politicians a question, they really should give them a chance to put more than a few words together in response before trying to talk over the answer they get.

    OT.

For the record I am extremely sorry that Steven Whaley has decided to leave PB.

He and I are diametrically opposed in our views of the way Europe should develop but, like a few other Europhile contributors, he has never hidden his views or tried to pretend that he was anything other than a federalist. He always argued his case politely and never resorted to insult nor tried to pretend that his view for Britain was anything other than what he strongly believed in. I think he was a great contributor to the site and hope he will one day change his mind.

For those criticising his departure it is worth remembering that not everyone enjoys the sort of forthright arguments that many of us are happy to indulge in. It takes all sorts and Steven simply wasn't the sort of person to accept the sorts of attacks that many of us are used to and accept without comment.

I am probably not going to change my bad behaviour and don't expect anyone else to either but I am still very sorry to see him go.

It's not too soon to say it. He cannot win. He is see widely, across the US, as being unsuitable to be president. Even among many lifelong Republicans.

That right there, ladies and gents, is the clip that is going to be on the facebook feeds of those with little to thank the current system for. Ending with DC saying 'Well obviously I don't agree'
