Hard to know whether that's the people or the Communist party (though I appreciate for the most part that Chinese people seem to be very 'pro' PRC). Can't imagine films about evil empires being brought down are given a very easy ride over there.
I seem to recall the authorities have (or had) a dislike of sci-fi generally. And it might have been a joke but supposedly time travel stories were a big no no - presumably might allow for stories set today showing if the CCP were not victorious!

Yup, I don't understand what St Jacinda is playing at, the five eyes becomes four which seems like a bigger loss for NZ than it does for the other four. She seems completely incapable of recognising the China/NZ relationship for what it is - abuser and victim.

Star wars has a long and deep hold in Western culture, but the original trilogy largely passed China and therefore no built in fanbase for the subsequent films. And the following ones don't hold up so well if you are vested already in the story
