Why? He wants a negative test. What other tests are there?
What has this got to do with testing? He's clearly going in because he has not improved.
I think it was a reference to “admitted for tests“
A chest X-ray/ ct?
I think it is just routine minimising talk (also used whenever the D of E goes to hospital). In reality you don't go to hospital at short notice on a Sunday "for tests," you go because you are bloody ill.
You don’t plough through Coronavirus. So, is Raab in charge now?
Well, PM's have been ill before and they don't replace them just because they are out of it for a bit.
Hmmm ... this isn't the time for bluster and glossing over. If he has been admitted to hospital he's obviously pretty ill.
I wasn't suggesting bluster, just that even if he is incapable of governing there would be no need to appoint a new PM as the Cabinet have already been informed who will lead their response should Boris be incapacitated. Therefore there is no confusion over who should direct Cabinet directing the rest of us whilst Boris is out of action.
Yup - that does not sound good. Best wishes to him.
This may be a bit tactless at this point - but if we are going to criticise the Scottish CMO for not following her guidance, the same criticism could surely be made of the PM, the Health Secretary and Dr Whitty, all of whom have appeared in pretty close proximity to each other.
Anyway I hope Boris makes a speedy and full recovery.
That applies only if you are no longer showing symptoms, the PM was still ill so stayed in isolation. Frankly he looked rather peaky on twitter and at the door of No.10 on thursday, I pray it doesn't get any serious.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
I think that’s it for Boris as pm. Most people get better but once you’ve been in hospital you get better Sloooooowly
I would suggest we stay calm at this moment
I think we’re calm. But let’s face it, if this is what they are telling us the truth is a couple of notches more serious.
It is serious and it does concern me and I worry for Carrie
However, it is not the time to write him off
Anyone else would stop working and take a break. I certainly would. A good long one. I hope sanity prevails and he does the same. You do not plough through Coronavirus.

Well, PM's have been ill before and they don't replace them just because they are out of it for a bit.
So long as it is clear to the Cabinet who is first among them if the PM is incapacitated - which it doubly is here since not only is Raab First Secretary of State they've actually told us he is the choice - then presumably they are able to function and there is no need to officially appoint him to any new position. So whether he is in charge I guess depends if Boris now counts as incapacitated.

Given he has nothing else to do unlike the other key players he’s the right choice as long as he sticks within his abilities.

I don't think the situations are of similar seriousness at all. Particular in the earlier days of this situation they, like many leaders and health professionals, will have been in pretty close contact with each other and a lot of others, but quite clearly adjusted what they were doing as they told the public what to do. It could be argued, perhaps not conclusively but at least argued, that in the earlier stages they needed some face to face time to coordinate things, particularly until everyone had their technological options in place. The CMO repeatedly acted contrary to her own message for no good reason that can be established. So no, I don't think the same criticism can be applied to anywhere near the same degree.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane run a country?

I find the conditions for stopping self isolating rather confusing.
If you have any symptoms you have to self isolate for 7 days. But if you still have a temperature you have to continue self isolating. But then can immediatly stop self isolating as soon as your temp returns to normal.
That seems to throw up rather uneven conditions for how long someone has been symptom free before they are then out and about.
Yup - that does not sound good. Best wishes to him.

Not only tactless but utterly wrong. The pm etc arguably broke protocol; the CMO for Scotland - whose sole job at the moment is to lecture Scots to stay at home - thought it perfectly fine for herself and her family to have weekend breaks at her 2nd home. She did this twice. Then lied about it.
The rest of her career should be as unremarkable and ignored as the entirety of her career up to covid.
Says the one PB’er who isn’t at home.
Boris played fast and loose with the risks in the early days, as was widely reported. Not just his proximity to the others at the press conference. And there are still rumours circulating about Mother’s Day,

It appears there is some thought that you might cease to become infectious prior to being virus free

Incorrect, he is not deputy PM. But the effect would be the same, some scream away.

By the way, if anyone still has access to today's Sunday Times then Tim Shipman's piece on page 11 is well worth a read. If you want to know why Johnson probably doesn't dare take his hand off the tiller, it's because there are a dozen wannabe skippers on board who are at one another's throats. I particularly enjoyed the account of how Michael Gove ripped Matt Hancock apart in Cabinet over ventilators. It sounded pure Gove: on top of all the facts. And pure Hancock: vacuous.

After 7 days:
- if you do not have a high temperature, you do not need to self-isolate - if you still have a high temperature, keep self-isolating until your temperature returns to normal
You do not need to self-isolate if you just have a cough after 7 days. A cough can last for several weeks after the infection has gone.

I wonder how many people actually understand this - it's quite a complicated message.

Wow. Talk about kicking someone when they're down. Nasty.
If we needed a new PM at very short notice would HM call Raab as First Secretary of State?
That would seem likely, given that he is the designated successor.
Deja Vu. We had a long discussion on this around 7.30 ish this morning. It's complicated and not as simple as Raab assuming power.
Anyway, let's hope Boris is okay.
I think RochdalePioneers was talking about a scenario where a new PM had to be appointed by the Queen in a rush. The obvious person is who the government have designated as the successor.

No, but given he has been publicly named as the successor the decision between government and the Palace would presumably be shorter than in its absence.
I have had enough, give me boring, I really want boring
Reminds me of the time I was bartering in an Arabic souk in the old city of Jerusalem and I was declaring to my trader how much I loved the buzz. He broke off from the haggling and fixed me his eye.
'I'd give anything to exchange what you call this buzz for your quiet English land.'
Given these are interesting times, think purely politically if you could turn the clock back and start again, would you and what date would you choose?
10/09/01 is a good bet. A couple of phone calls could change the world. 01/11/00 possibly even better if you could get Florida voting machines to work properly.

He did indeed. Johnson has always believed that the rules do not apply to him. The virus however is no respector of persons.
Indeed, the classic definition of a tragedy is where the protagonist is brought down by his character flaws. I wish him a full recovery.

I missed that conversation, and the context has changed since. The PM could be dead by the time 24 hours have passed since then. Appointing a successor quickly would be critical.
Spare a thought for Carrie. She must be going through the ringer right now.
Agree 100% with the sentiment but I do think it needs to be "wringer", I had a horrible vision of her being transformed into electrical signals and sent down miles of copper telephony wire which might be even more ghastly than the mangle itself.
Daft thing to be pedantic about, I know. Sincerely hope she is doing okay.
Queen to announce tomorrow that she will become PM.
She's been playing the long game.
I always suspected the Royals never reconciled to the revolution of 1689.
Surely the current lot are - they wouldn't be on the throne if it weren't for the 1689 revolution.
Sure, but it's one thing to accept the price demanded for it and another not to regret that price. Parliament was not required to set every year since 1689 after all. Not right at the start at least*
*actually I'm not sure about that, but I think it was a few more years before annual parliaments were required, I might be wrong on that.

I do so hate people surmising what ifs if someone were to die.. its nasty.
You do the monarchy a disservice trying to capture it for political gain.
I never said I was trying to 'capture it for political gain', I just made the factual point Tory voters are significantly more likely to support the monarchy than Labour voters, even if a majority of both still support the monarchy

Each to their own. I do not regard speculating about worst case scenarios as nasty. It's worth thinking about what happens in a crisis so we might have some idea what would happen.

I wish him full recovery.
How ironic that just as our 93 year old Queen addresses the nation our PM is hospitalised.

However, it is not the time to write him off
He was ill advised to work last week.
This is stupid

But that's probably a step too far even for conspiracists.
I'm inclined to agree with you about the possibility of a lab leak. Takes me back to that horrific incident of the last smallpox case in Britain.
If anyone doesn't know the story and how it leaked from the lab to kill Janet Parker via the ventilation system then it's worth a read:
